Oh dearie me.

OTheHugeManatee · 15/11/2012 22:40

It's definitely one of those old man names that seems to have missed the revival.

Personally I wouldn't do it, even though it was my grandfather's name. Too lispy, and hard to think of a nice shortening that isn't just Bert or Bertie anyway.

scrumpkin · 15/11/2012 22:41

Awful -sorry

Peevish · 15/11/2012 22:41

I kind of like it. But then I am in north London and the other day I met a four-day-old baby called Ace.

LivingThings · 15/11/2012 22:42

just no really.

maddening · 15/11/2012 22:42

I had a hamster called Cuthbert - he was ginger and escaped.

ecuse · 15/11/2012 22:43

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 15/11/2012 22:43

Like in Beverly Cleary?

Hate it hate it. Love her books though (apart from her sexist teen crap!).

blackeyedsusan · 15/11/2012 22:43

funny, I quite like it for it's unusualness factor... not sure I could live with it though, long term like...

Elderflowergranita · 15/11/2012 22:45

I know a seven year old Cuthbert. He's known as Bertie though.

IneedAgoldenNickname · 15/11/2012 22:45

My Mum is always trying to convince me that I'd I ever have another ds I should call him Engelbert Hmm

TempusFuckit · 15/11/2012 22:49

How about Dibble or Grub?

WorraLiberty · 15/11/2012 22:51

I also had a hamster called Cuthbert Grin

Cortana · 15/11/2012 22:51

I like it, but I may be in the minority. I love a good classic name.

thebody · 15/11/2012 22:52

I like Bertie but call him cuthbert if you wish.

Best enrol in self defence classes though!

MrsHoarder · 15/11/2012 22:54

Are you v upper class? If not then yabu

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 15/11/2012 22:55

He sounds like he would have long blond curls, wear a sailor suit and be beaten up alot. I would love him though, and would invite him in for a glass of milk and a snickerdoodle.

scarlettsmummy2 · 15/11/2012 23:00

Awful. He is set for a life time of being bullied and sniggered about.

apostropheuse · 15/11/2012 23:02

Hate the name. Sorry.

frantic51 · 15/11/2012 23:06

I don't think YABU to consider it, however I would think YABU if you did it! Grin

PearlyWhites · 15/11/2012 23:22

Thanks for the feedback it's what I expected glad a couple of people like it, he would be Bertie for short I think it's very cute.

MummyPig24 · 16/11/2012 07:21

I don't like Cuthbert, love Bertie though. Partly because a friends ds is Bertie and the moar beautiful child ever born. Positively angelic!

mummymeister · 16/11/2012 07:33

Whilst he might be Bertie for short there are lots of occasions when he will be using his full name so if you really like Bertie more (which you must do if this is what you are going to call him) then why not Albert or Bertrand. All will be well until his first friend calls him Cuffy Smile Why not wait to see what he looks like when he is born. we had a list of 10 boys names for our ds and when we saw him chose something completely different.
