I am in the need of some serious cheering up. I have just discovered at my local cinema, films start at 11ish. I have free time between then and school pick up one day next week.

never done it. can't bring myself to go to the cinema alone. have eaten out, been to gigs, by myself but the cinema is a step too far. wish i could overcome it.

showtunesgirl · 13/11/2012 20:35

Why is that lovebunny? Surely you're MORE visibly alone when eating out? In the cinema, it's dark and no-ones looking at you anyway!

Peanutbutterfingers · 13/11/2012 20:37

And if you go during the day nearly everyone alone

Eggrules · 13/11/2012 20:38

Go on lovebunny, you can do it.

When I was single I used to go to the cinema all the time by myself. Why be ashamed of enjoying your own company?

I once took a 3 month trip to Europe by myself and sat through many (many) dinners and activities all on my own - it was challenging at times, but if I just waited till others had the same money, time and/or motivation - think of how much I would have missed out on. It can take awhile to get used to a solo act but its a very empowering skill to develop. Sometimes now I even miss the solitude and quiet of my own thoughts.

bedmonster · 13/11/2012 20:56

Of course yanbu - Why would you need company when you sit in the dark being quiet?! Go for it, its actually very liberating. Enjoy op.

FromEsme · 13/11/2012 20:58

I can't believe the number of people that refuse to do stuff on their own. The people I work with won't even get the bus home on their own - they all wait til someone else is ready to go with them. How they can be arsed waiting for half an hour after work I don't know.

I LOVE going to the cinema on my own.

I go on my own every few weeks but NEVER on a Wednesday. I'm on Orange and that would be too sad Grin

bakedbeanqueen · 13/11/2012 21:06

I did it once and was the only person in the cinema!! People pay loads for a private screening. I was a rebel and sat in the expensive seats when i had only paid for the cheap seats Grin

CremeEggThief · 13/11/2012 21:08

YABU- if you chicken out and don't go! Wink

showtunesgirl · 13/11/2012 21:10

The next time I'm going to a cinema, it WILL be a private screening and I'm in the film.

But I only say one line. Grin

EllenParsons · 13/11/2012 21:19

I have been to the cinema on my own before - no problem with it. I would usually do it for more unusual films which were more my own specific interest than my friends eg i remember going to a lot of Korean films alone a few years ago! That was in an art house cinema where loads of people were on their own but I have also done it in mainstream Cinemas and found that fine too.

somewherewest · 13/11/2012 21:20

This thread is such a bloody relief. I'm dying to see Skyfall but currently have no one to go with (just moved to a new town where we know no one and only person available to mind DS is DH).

rempy · 13/11/2012 21:21

Go. It's marvellous. I did it last week for the first time in years.

Cherylkerl · 13/11/2012 21:24

Yanbu

I also love eating out alone.

I find going to the cinema such an odd way to socialise..meet in the foyer, don't talk for two hours, say goodbye. Hence it being perfect for early date activity.

RedZombie · 13/11/2012 21:40

I've never been on my own before. I almost did for that Zac Efron film earlier this year but When I had a free afternoon, it wasnt on. I'm dying to see the new Bradley Cooper film because I loved the Book and I know I'll never get DH to come with me. This time I'm doing it.

Eggrules · 13/11/2012 22:00

Hmmmm, maybe I should make this a regular thing? I'm going next week.

Show tunes, care to expand?

Red, I'm going too try to fit Skyfall in this week and Breaking Dawn next.

showtunesgirl · 13/11/2012 22:28

I can't because I'll out myself!

All those who haven't gone to the pics by themselves, can I ask what exactly is it you're scared of?

gasman · 13/11/2012 23:59

I love going to the cinema on my own. It is my secret post night shift indugence.

I also like rainy sunday afternoon double bills in the local arthouse place.

You meed minstrels though.

SoleSource · 14/11/2012 00:20

Yanbu at all

NewNames · 14/11/2012 00:30

I was scared the first time I went on my own. Not sure what of though. I got my ore booked ticket and bought myself a hot chocolate and popcorn. Ended up being just me, two other singles and a couple in the screen. Was fab!

flow4 · 14/11/2012 00:32

Of course YANBU :) Go for it!

drizzlecake · 14/11/2012 00:51

I went to college in the 70s. Looked forward to meeting new people but almost everyone had come with a pal from school, the others were living at home Confused. ( it was a small class and all women).

AngryBeaver · 14/11/2012 07:20

I went to the cinema on my own dressed as a clown.
