AIBU?

DH, DS and Xbox.

Dh thinks nothing of putting the Xbox on and playing for ages on halo while ds (14 months) is toddling round sting in the lounge. (we don't have a playroom - that's where all his toys are) I HATE it. I know ds doesn't 'understand' but it feels so wrong to me. Dh thinks its fine and I'm just trying to be annoying and previous.

AIBU?

I even sneer at the term "gamer" it sounds so...nerdy.

Both me and dh are gamers, however we like different types. Neither of us play while dc is about (occasionally something on our phones that she doesnt notice). Though he does get time to play them once or twice a week while me and dd are out at groups, as he doesn't work 9to5.

I don't understand how he can play with a 14 month old he would have no chance with our dd. She would be climbing all over trying to get the controller etc.

Me and my DP are far from nerdy, but we both play games. We work hard and its a good way to unwind :)

Problem is, where do you draw the line? At what point do you decide they're aware enough, or paying enough attention to warrant turning it off? And by the point they understand what they're watching it's too late.

That's why I think you shouldn't play age rated games in front of kids. OP YANBU.

DP and I are huge gamers. Absolute losers too obviously. Hmm

DS plays some age appropriate games but we wouldn't play games that weren't suitable for him around him. Same as a violent film.

(Btw - I play Halo online in a group with my friends, it's social and involves teamwork and strategy so ner-ner. No worse than me being on MN when DS is in a bed)

I agree with only playing when ds is in bed.

The thing is they start playing games so young as well now, so it won't be long before he wants to play too.

Especially if it's bloodthirsty.

DeathMetal that's because she knows you will actually respond and pay attention to her. I've seen the way that DCs respond to a dad who's totally engrossed in a game and won't acknowledge them (as a general rule when gaming) - they ignore them back as though they aren't there :( It's very sad.

I lovemy PS3 guess that makes me a loser to right! Even though there is no difference betweenplaying ps3 or wasting hours on MN

Meh I probably am not the usual on here, me and my dc love playing GTA and killing people so I wouldn't have a problem.

We're all losers then :D

Right now I'm on the xbox, watching tv on the ipad, and typing on here on the ol' macbook. I must be an uber loser!!! Least I'm a multitasking one :o

There's morning wrong with gaming (so speaketh another "loser" with a "loser" OH...) but spending all day on it when kids are around is not good. Halo is not massively violent but that's by the by really, his attention is focused elsewhere.
We have our gaming time once DCs are in bed, or we play with ds1 (age appropriate games, he's not one of those kids who plays COD or GTA) sometimes if Ds2 is napping.
