To ask you to try to remember a shampoo from the 80s/90s

I realise this is tenuous and doesn't really belong on this thread but posting here for extra traffic.

There is a 300+ posts thread running on Chat at the moment in which the OP is asking us to remember the name/brand/variety of a shampoo that was sold in late 80s/early 90's.

We think it was Sunsilk/VO5, that kind of brand. It was a see through bottle and the shampoo was lilac/purple. The whole pont of the shampoo was that it made your hair smell great and have a lasting fragrance. The ads that ran in Just 17/ Jackie magazine for it showed a boy sniffing a girl's hair at a party. I seem to remember them being black and white line drawing/cartoon type ads, not colour photographic. Same sort of style as the ads used to be for Compound W, if that means anything to you.

So who has got a secret stash of Just 17's from that period and could have a whizz through.

Please put us out of our misery someone. What was it called?!!!

Sunsilk I reckon. I'm sure they did a purple one for "straight" hair.

My favourite around that time was Linco Beer Shampoo. Came in a tasteful beige barrel-shaped plastic bottle with a dark brown screw top lid.

And Henara - for a daring tint/shine. Does anyone else remember henna powder which had to be mixed with water before going on the hair?

The only alternative then was permanent very dark or orange dyes which stank the house out and stained your forehead for about 10 days.

I'm sure that hair dye prompted the fashion for the hairline fringe.

Don't know if the one I found is the one OP is thinking of but it's the one I remember. Awwww it smelt lovely. I tried the henna one but went back to my old purple favourite. I remember the apple stuff too - hope I never actually got any in my mouth because it honked to high heavens of apples! What the hell was in it?? Bright green too. What with that and the free make up on the cover of Jackie, I must have been the poster girl for teenage carcinogens.....

I remember Woodleigh Green for its wonderful apple-y smell. I had long blond hair then; I'm bald now. It was probably 50% industrial waste and largely responsible for my hair loss but I can still recall that aroma... And does anyone know the shampoo that was advertised on TV with the lovely tune (more than a mere "jingle") called "The Girl with the Sun in her Hair"?

Answered my own question: it was Sunsilk.

It was called Sunsilk du Parfum!! Purple in colour and smelt gorgeous. They didn't make a conditioner which you could use with it. It must have been ca. 1987 as I was still at secondary school when I used it to go to the disco! Those were the days....

I know this is a zombie thread (as l posted on it a good few times...)
The shampoo for the 'over 40's' (during the 80?'s)was 'Empathy' by Johnson & Johnson.
I need some of that now. ;)

I remember one in a brownish bottle that smelled like cocktail cherries. That may have been VO5 but I'm not sure...

In the mid-late 70s, I favoured a Silvikrin with egg in it - remember it was this shiny, metallic almost yellow. My dad used to think it was hilarious.

In the 60s as a kid, my mum used Vosene on us and I can still remember that not entirely pleasant smell of it, with affection.

Sunsilk wasn't a brand I used. I can remember an apple one, but it wasn't the one mentioned upthread. I also had an apple perfume that came in a glass bottle shaped like an apple. Can't remember what it was called or who made it? I used to love Aqua Manda.
