To ask you to try to remember a shampoo from the 80s/90s

I realise this is tenuous and doesn't really belong on this thread but posting here for extra traffic.

There is a 300+ posts thread running on Chat at the moment in which the OP is asking us to remember the name/brand/variety of a shampoo that was sold in late 80s/early 90's.

We think it was Sunsilk/VO5, that kind of brand. It was a see through bottle and the shampoo was lilac/purple. The whole pont of the shampoo was that it made your hair smell great and have a lasting fragrance. The ads that ran in Just 17/ Jackie magazine for it showed a boy sniffing a girl's hair at a party. I seem to remember them being black and white line drawing/cartoon type ads, not colour photographic. Same sort of style as the ads used to be for Compound W, if that means anything to you.

So who has got a secret stash of Just 17's from that period and could have a whizz through.

Please put us out of our misery someone. What was it called?!!!

I have done so much googling.

I worked in a pharmacy in the late 80's , I'm trying to picture the shampoo shelf!

You are not alone!

I've been searching in vain for years for:
Bodyshop Jojoba Oil Conditioning Shampoo circa 1997.

Not a dickie bird.

Which was the one that was two different colours and you had to shake it to mix before you used it? Me and my friends were mad about that one.

OMG! Flex!!!!

I luuuuurved the smell of that. AND IQ, does anyone remember that one? A really thick conditioner.

The thing i would most dearly love to get my mitts on again is the perfume 'Sex Appeal' by Jovin. Bright pink packaging. You can still get the guys version but the ladies? Nope :( Really trashy looking, but it smelled bloody lovely.

i used to pull every time i went out wearing it

Most likely to be either Wella or Bristows I'd think

It wasn't Wella I don't think and I'm sure it wasn't Bristows.

I remember! I think I even bought it once! And I STILL can't remember its name. Yes, purple bottle, definitely. Will have a think. The smell wasn't even anything that special...

I have no idea what you are looking for but I LOVED Flex - fantastic stuff and smelled wonderful! I wish I could still get some now.

This has also been driving me round the bend for years!! I thought I must have imagined that it ever existed!

It was definitely purple and had au parfum in the title. I too have written to manufacturers with no luck....I wonder if it was in a scratch and sniff advert?? Has anyone got any more on this - I wondered if it was sunsilk, it's definitely not the others!!!

I remember this! Gahhhh, before I even clicked on the link I thought 'I wonder if it's that perfumed shampoo in the lilac bottle'. Dammit, I'm at work so can't really have a good Google right now, but it's going to drive me mad.....

Strangely, I don't remember this and I was an avid reader of J17, Jackie et al. I DO remember Woodleigh Green apple shampoo! Who remembers that??

I bought a bottle for 44p, I think, and it made me determined to grow my hair long enough to be able to smell the apples! I wouldn't use it till I had long hair! I was about 11, I think.

Silkience conditioner was also a revelation, I remember my friend and I going daft over it and begging my dad to buy it when he went to get the weekly shopping (he was a real "new man", way back then!) "The Science of silkening your hair.........."

I also remember one called Bristow's Deep Shine which I did think was very effective, as my 13 or 14 year old self.

There used to be one called "shampoo de parfum" around 1987. I never tried it but I remember looking at an advert and thinking what a silly name. I don't know who the manufacturer was and the advert was not as you described so it may not be the same one.

How old are you that remember this shampoo? I am 35, and thought that my knowledge of both shampoo and magazines was pretty good... but I don't remember this at all!

Report
CashmereHoodlum · 06/02/2013 12:13

I'm 40s and sitting here regretting my encyclopaedic knowledge of magazine adverts and hair products and wishing I had spent more time doing my homework. I can't remember anything from school.

There was a big thread about this before Christmas, it went nuts and we eventually tracked it down. It was a really big thread at the time, I can't believe none of you remember it!
