To ask you to try to remember a shampoo from the 80s/90s

I realise this is tenuous and doesn't really belong on this thread but posting here for extra traffic.

There is a 300+ posts thread running on Chat at the moment in which the OP is asking us to remember the name/brand/variety of a shampoo that was sold in late 80s/early 90's.

We think it was Sunsilk/VO5, that kind of brand. It was a see through bottle and the shampoo was lilac/purple. The whole pont of the shampoo was that it made your hair smell great and have a lasting fragrance. The ads that ran in Just 17/ Jackie magazine for it showed a boy sniffing a girl's hair at a party. I seem to remember them being black and white line drawing/cartoon type ads, not colour photographic. Same sort of style as the ads used to be for Compound W, if that means anything to you.

So who has got a secret stash of Just 17's from that period and could have a whizz through.

Please put us out of our misery someone. What was it called?!!!

OP posts:

It was Sunsilk by the way. Clear bottle, light purple shampoo, pink or purple lid, very 80s label

YouOldSlag · 06/02/2013 12:19

Sorry I can see that you do remember it and that this is an old thread. Sorry.

BaileyGAZ · 07/05/2013 23:14

I'm looking for a photo or something to remind me - there was a shampoo and conditioner back in the 80s called "Style" I believe, they were in grayish bottles. Smelled so good. Always looking for those, but as you can imagine, using "style" and "shampoo" in a Google search brings up a gazillion results. Does anyone remember 'Style'?

Earth Born?

There was one that was aimed at "Hair over 40" which is a bit Hmm because most hair falls out after 6-7 years. They mean the person over 40 not the hair.

Once- YY - the two layers

Woodleigh Green - I used to use that back in the day.
And Flex Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/05/2013 23:42

Oh, does anyone remember a very nice herbally shampoo back in the 1980s.
The advert was Jilly Cooper (novelist) writing that she stopped believing in secret ingrediants when she was "14 and my lacrosse socks fell out of my bra"

I bought a tiny trial bottle of the Chamomile- felt really 'adult' Blush

AudrinaAdare · 07/05/2013 23:53

Oh hello again shampoo thread. I was the loon who emailed the museum of rare brands in the quest for an answer. I never did get a reply.

Isityouorme · 08/05/2013 06:34

Timotei .... Beer shampoo??

BrokenBananaTantrum · 08/05/2013 06:43

The Body Shop Dewberry Shampoo?

theodorakisses · 08/05/2013 07:57

The Linco Beer shampoo was lovely. We tried to drink it once which was not so nice.

RiffyWammal · 08/05/2013 10:24

Mmm, lovely eggy yellow delicious smelling Flex...

Circa 1985 I saved my pocket money and bought Vidal Sassoon shampoo, conditioner, hairspray and styling gel; it smelled fantastic (like coconuts) and my hair looked really shiny and held its style, which was a fetching mushroom cut shaved up the back. They came in tasteful brown bottles and I felt dead posh.

BreakerPup · 11/06/2013 21:49

The shampoo you have been so been so fruitlessly searching for is called..........wait for it........''ONCE'' ! It was orange or sometimes green at the top and yellow at the bottom. Hope this has helped. Smile

BreakerPup · 11/06/2013 22:03

Please disregard my last message as it was totally incorrect. Grin

KenDoddsDadsDog · 11/06/2013 22:04

I loved that thread ! It was one of the most fun searches ever.

Fifilosttheplot · 11/06/2013 22:16

V05 did a shampoo and conditioner called "Apple Green" looked like snot in a bottle but you hair smelled lovely

Yes to bringing back "Flex" - we should all petition Revlon until we get it re-instated. I think Cindy Crawford used to advertise it

viagrafalls · 11/06/2013 22:19

Has anyone mentioned 'silvikirin'?

Zhx3 · 11/06/2013 22:20

It was me who got the glory Grin.

Here it is again:

Sunsilk de Parfum

NotDead · 11/06/2013 22:21

Timotei def had ad with hair smelling.. once was layered and you had to shake.

mamij · 11/06/2013 22:23

Timotei? But don't remember it having a see-through bottle. I remember flowers in the adverts - very outdoorsy feel.

Haggischucker · 11/06/2013 23:26

I loved that shampoo and used to use it all the time, was amazing! Just tried searching on eBay on the off chance there was some for sale, none! I wonder if sunsilk can be convinced to re-start production?!

iatetheeasterbunny · 11/06/2013 23:28

iatetheeasterbunny · 11/06/2013 23:32

Pffft link didn't work did it..... Not sure how to do it on my phone. Hopefully someone cleverer than me will come along and do it for me Grin

saulaboutme · 11/06/2013 23:48

Yes I remember it. It was a V05 perfume shampoo. I loved it but it really dried my scalp.
The smell was gorgeous!

saulaboutme · 11/06/2013 23:51

Omg zhx3 that's it! It smelled gorgeous! Well done

PearlieQueen · 12/06/2013 01:45

You can sometimes find small bottles of Flex shampoo in Poundland. Never the conditioner though. And it doesn't smell quite the same as it used to!
