To ask DMIL not to take DS out all day?

This is not a MIL bashing thread. I lovey
mIL and currently have chest infection which I'm taking antibiotics for, then this morning was sick I'm not sure if its a reaction to antibiotics or something else. DH took DS (1yr old) down to work with him then called his mum and asked if she could look after him for a few hours. MIL then popped in here to get DS changing bag/ food etc. and told me she and her partner thought they'd take him out to a place 1/2 hr away. When I asked what time they'd be back she said 4pm. I got a bit upset as I worked all day yesterday and the weekend is only time I get to see DS for two days in a row (work mon/wed/fri). MIL has now changed plans and is going to bring him back at lunch time and said they'd take him to this place another day when we can all go.
I feel awful as I don't want to stop them having a lovely time and I'm sure DS would have fun, do you think it's selfish of me to have stopped them going so I can see him this afternoon?

Feeling like a terrible mother, my in laws are having our 2 year old for a whole weekend next weekend so we can go away and I can't wait for a break from her AND I'm not ill! AND I work a three day week too!
But seriously I think YABU, it is a bit selfish to limit involvement of close family like that, if grandparents offer it take the help

"Feeling like a terrible mother, my in laws are having our 2 year old for a whole weekend next weekend so we can go away and I can't wait for a break from her AND I'm not ill!"

Envy

Oh, I mean Angry

You must not love her at all if you want to spend time shagging and getting drunk away from her.

OwedToAutumn · 03/11/2012 12:25

Your PIL sound lovely, particularly changing their plans to respect your somewhat unreasonable PFB wishes!

What's done is done. Apologise for being silly. Thank them for being so understanding. Laugh at yourself. Get on with your life, lesson learnt.

Wish my MIL was so lovely.

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 03/11/2012 12:29

I got a bit upset - what exactly did you say or do that made her say they'd be back sooner?

Really - your MIL is a saint, be careful you don't alienate her :(

Wh...

What's the big deal about this being the only time you see him '2 days in a row'?

She was bringing him back at 4 - not keeping him for the week. Really, int he nicest possible way, a grip needs to be got.

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 03/11/2012 12:33

Arcadia - stop that now!! Enjoy your childfree weekend and let her enjoy her time with GP's & them with her. Don't start with the Mummy Martyr routine - it's ridiculous.

EchoBitch · 03/11/2012 15:54

I'd have let her take him and spent the day watching crap telly and sleeping.

EchoBitch · 03/11/2012 15:57

My Mum had DD for 10 whole days when DP and i went to France on holiday (she was 13 months) ,they had the best time and were always close.
She's get DD up in the morning and watch the birds at the feeder then take her out and show her off to all her pals.

MamaMumra · 03/11/2012 16:17

OP - think you are being unreasonable, but you are unwell. Your MIL sounds lovely.
DS has gone out with grandparents, but want to assure you all, I love him v much Grin

MamaMumra · 03/11/2012 16:20

Arcardia you are not feeling like a terrible mother! You must be feeling very clever and satisfied Smile

whois · 03/11/2012 17:42

Oh my god this thread is hillarious. Thanks loveebunny for injecting some surealism into the mix. I have this image of you supergluing you (14 year old or older) "baby" to you to ensure NO ONE TAKES THEM AWAY. NOOOOOOO.

OP y were b u but you are Ill and probably irrational from that. I'd probably apologise to MIL about the day out and blame it on feeling rubbish.

Arcadia · 03/11/2012 20:56

sorry I was exaggerating there, don't feel that bad about it! I've been happy to leave DD with her GPs for a weekend so that DP and I can get away since she was six months, we go about twice a year and now have two nights way instead of one. they have offered to have her whilst we go abroad for a week but wouldn't want to be that far away.

Arcadia · 03/11/2012 21:32

then again OP I suppose it is a bit about them taking the decision out of your hands, maybe that is what annoyed you?

apostropheuse · 03/11/2012 21:50

WOW babies should never be away from their parents. Ever. It's tantamount to kidnapping.

Grandparents/aunties/uncles...step away from that child immediately.
We better close down all the nurseries as of tomorrow.
Childminders - you're sacked. Go look after your own children.

Lovebunny - are you pissed?

Grin

Oh and OP I think you've probably realised by now that YABU. Hopefully.

cory · 03/11/2012 23:22

If it was me I'd be happy for somebody to keep baby looked after- just in case that chest infection was contagious and baby ended up a lot more ill than I was.

Of course I have sometimes looked after my own babies when suffering from contagious illnesses -you don't always get a choice- but always happier when I didn't have to. Insisting on having your baby close when you are ill seems a bit selfish to me.
