Ok I know I am a little but not as UR as him!
DH is sulking with me since last night because I wouldn't sow a button on his coat for him. Now first of all I know it sounds petty but there is a little back story!
Last time this happened, he asked me to do it and I asked why he couldn't do it himself? He replied that 'he didn't know how to'. Now this is a personal bug bear of mine. I don't think it's acceptable excuse for a 35 year old to think not knowing how to do something basic is a reason to get away with not doing it. And he does it all the time. Don't know how to use washing machine, Internet banking, sew a button. Well find out and next time you'll know.
So we agreed last time that I would show him how to do it and then he could do it next time. Fine. Until last night when the button fell of his coat. He comes home and asks me to fix it. I say no, explain why and offer to help him. He gets pissed off. Accuses me of being mean and selfish. Stops talking to me. I go off to bed in a bit of a strop (childish I know but I wasn't going o sit up to be sulked at especially when I only stay up late to keep him company).
Meant to be going out with friends tonight. Said he wasn't coming. I said fine whatever he wants. Finally says he is going but as long as I know he is still pissed off Hmm. I asked how long he'll be sulking for? He said he's sure it will wear off eventually or if I admit I was wrong.
I'm NOT wrong. I'm not backing down he can sew on his own fucking button!
AIBU?

YA DEFINITELY NBU!

A 35 year old should be able to sew on a button.

A 35 year old shouldn't be sulking like he is.

You stick to your guns, DixieD!

Is it the same button? If i was him i would be a bit concerned with your button sewing skills, maybe his mum could do it. Wine

Cut all the buttons off, that'll teach him Grin

This reminds me of a story (possibly urban legend) I read about a man who, after his wife "missed" a shirt button that needed sewing when she did the laundry, sewed an oversized jar lid in its place to emphasize her "error". So she dutifully sewed a matching oversized button hole for his modification.

Hmm, I'm not sure, marriage is after all a partnership. When I got married my dad said in his speech that he'd been given some advice by his (much older) sil when he got married - that neither of you will have all the answers all the time, you just have to hope that you each have the answers to different things. I think this is a prime case. You can sew, so sew, provided he's pulling his weight elsewhere.

YANBU, provided you never ask him to change the oil or a flat tire, deal with builders, change a fuse etc. I know stereotypical of me, but are you sure there's nothing you "can't" do that he has to do.

It depends on how he asked.

DH has this with buttons. He is very competent, but somehow buttons are just difficult for him.

So whenever a button falls off, he comes with item of clothing, button, needle and thread in hand and asks in his nicest voice 'could you please please sew my button? I'll give you a massage while you do it.'

If he did this, ywbu to say no. If he asks any other way, then hibu.

I would be 'helping' some of his buttons to get loose so he gets plenty of practice Grin
