to think that there should be an age limit on buying

magazines. As I've said before on here I work for a large supermarket, and the other day 2 young lads (late teens) came in to buy Nuts magazine. I had just refreshed my age restricted sales training and there wasn't anything on it about magazines. I checked with the store and there is no age restriction on this (only if they contain DVD's or games). I have since looked online and can't find anything to say that I shouldn't have served these boys. AIBU to think there should be an age restriction on these types of magazines?

There are restrictions on really hardcore magazines though, probably not the type you sell in a supermarket though.
But if you don't think late teens is appropriate age for nuts you are being a little unreasonable. Nuts isn't that bad really.

It wasn't that I had any reservations on selling them to these particular boys, just that I was surprised that there are no restrictions at all. Would you be happy with your 7 year old buying them?

YANBU. I would include any magazine with an adult theme, Take A Break's content is far worse than NUTS sometimes!

I'd be more worried about the horrors on the internet that lie at children's fingertips than a few boobs and bums in nuts.

I once had to get someone to authorise my purchase of Pregnancy and Birth at an automated checkout. Because it had a 16 age limit attached, not because it's a pile of poorly informed wank. "please wait for assistance, or put this back on the shelf, it's crap"

I found this particularly ironic as we live in the Valleys, and if girls hit 16 before their first pregnancy then it's considered a small triumph...

You have to be 18 to buy a packet of plastic spoons or 16 to buy a box of Christmas Crackers ffs!

Goodness knows, aparently it's the law! Christmas Crackers contain EXPLOSIVES and plastic spoons come under the law governing knife sales! Seriously.

I think it depends on the content - haven't read nuts so don't know.

Fwiw my little bro and his friend were caught age 10 with the lingerie section of the littlewoods catalogue Shock so by late teens a magazine with a few breasts will be par of the course.

I think this age restriction thing is just getting mm well 'nuts'. My GS13y can not buy cutlery or party popers and could get into real truoable for having a small pen knife.So is every one a baby until they are what 25?

I have been carded for plastic cutlery on more than one occasion. Each time the shop assistant was very sheepish about having to do it!

A trading standards officer told me once that strictly speaking it is unlawful to sell anything to anyone under 18. This is because a sale is a contract between the seller and buyer and it is unlawful to enter into a contract with a minor. The only exception to this is if the minor is buying something 'essential'. 'Essential' however isn't defined and is open to interpretation.

Crickey! I really would not have believed that!

However I have now instructed both my dd's (9 & 11) never to even think about buying a plastic spoon. I hope they understood the severity of the offence.

YANBU OP. I'd hate younger boys to be buying it. It's not just the porn, it's also the general attitude towards women they promote. It's grim.
