Some of us do our research before making a purchase and the vehicle we buy is the one which suits our needs.

So can those who make snap judgements otherwise (yes, certain school gate mums, I do mean you and a fair few MN'ers too) go away and consider why they feel the need to criticise someone else's carefully thought through decision/choice so instantly without considering the possible factors in arriving at that choice.

Just because some people get a kick out of the admiration/envy that they can garner from showing off any lovely or expensive new clothes/handbag/car/jewellery or talking about their upcoming holiday or lounge redecoration, new furniture etc etc, don't assume that all people are like that because it smacks of judging others by the way you personally would act and might therefore actually reflect badly on you.

I honestly had no idea when I got the car some while back how much it would affect the way some acquaintances treat me.

Ilovecoffeeandchocolate - I have no more need to boast about where I live than about what car I drive! It is affluent - it's a fact, and people who are rich (not us but lots of those around are) don't seem to need to have a car to show off with.

I wasn't born earning a lot. We found life intolerable, made a plan and followed our ambitions until we had got what we wanted. Most of my life has been hard financially until now. Nobody helped me work my way up.

I'm certainty not feeling inferior at no time did I say this. How much you earn is not relevant. You could easily say you are comfortably off. Not a list of how much you earn and the benefits you get. People with money feel no need to go on about it.

Great glad you and others have done well, bit shallow to talk about first class flights maids etc

I really don't think it's about how much people earn. The wealthiest person I know drives a knackered Volvo.

Cars are seen as a show of wealth, that's a fact. Some people like to use a car to show they are well off, just like clothes, handbags etc. good luck to them I say, especially if they have worked hard for it.

My friend made me laugh yesterday. We were laughing because we couldn't see his car in the car park because it's so small and when I got in he said 'the smaller the car the bigger the cock' Grin

Ime properly really posh stately home type people drive crap cars and wear ancient clothes.

My car cost £1000 5 years ago and I can get my 3 kids in it/get to work/get to the other end of the country in it and it costs £38 to fill up... Just think those of you spending £115 to fill up(really?) what you could spend the money on. It's an old Honda civic btw.

If I ever have money left over after holidays and so on I've always dreamed of a smart car after I saw someone parking in a tiny space, but that would mean leaving the kids behind of course.

If you love your car that's really lovely , I just coudn't care less about them.

I have come to the conclusion that there are people in this world who spend their entire life sneering at others for all manner of reasons, and two of the biggest crimes would appear to be 1. having a big car, and 2. being wealthy. It is absolutely fine to make a big deal out of how hard up you are, but hinting at wealth - big mistake.

It comes across as a nasty kind of inverse snobbery.

My background is not wealthy, not even close, and our cars were old wrecks. I am better off now than as a child, but no one gave me anything.... I worked for it. So shoot me.

I dislike the fact there are so many of them as now there are, unneccessarily, far more high vehicles on the road which means less visibility and space for other drivers, especially when parking next to one or on narrow country lanes where normally sized vehicle could fit past one another. I can see, though, why some owners have them as they are clearly too large to fit into a normal car...[hwink]

I don't mind the smaller more economical types or if you have a proper one for a purpose like a Landrover Discovery.

Plus the fact they are not so rare or impressive now as a status symbol being as every other Tom Dick or Harriet has one. But I like the fact I can actually find my own red estate car in the car park easily because so many cars look like some kind of jeep and are black or silver.

Shit forgot to hide it.

Do you know she's got more money than me or do you make an assumption?

And really not liking 4x4s is not jealousy at all or I would hate lots of expensive cars, 4x4s (without a bit of rural) are crass, usually the same sort of people driving a city 4x4 dresses their kids in Dior.....massively branded and labelled crap.

Oh dear,

I have a 4x4, an Audi estate, wear a barbour and have hunter wellies.

Though... I also have 3 horses, tow a massive trailer plus 2 horses somewhere most weekends, the hunters were on 1/2 price in tkmax and have actual real mud on them. Probably horse shit as well.

I also towed a lorry out of a field recently when it was stuck, was very proud of myself! In fact most weekends this year I've had to use 4wheel drive.

Its a massive 4x4, I can actually Parallel park it and can reverse said massive horse trailer a 90degree angle round a corner.

A parking space is no problem.

Don't get me started on people driving right up tight behind me when I'm towing!!

Mainly non 4x4 drivers!!! :-)

I tow at 50 max or the as don't want to risk snaking etc with horses on board, I also avoid late brakeing so slow down gradually to turns etc, The number of cars and lorries that sit inches of the trailer is astonishing!

This weekend on a dual carrigeway, with plenty of room to overtake.... I still had cars tight behind me.

I stand by my point that I am not tolerating being called names because I have an expensive car. I don't actually care about an individual on a forum but I hate the way mn encourages bullying as long as the person is not poor. It's bollocks and if someone calls me a wanker because of my car I think they are a wanker. It's time people were held to account for their vile inverse snobbish bullying. I have only been playing with this to prove a point and am not embarrassed to reveal my achievements when directly challenged by a bully. I never name change and stand by the comments I make. I also never get comments deleted because I am not a vile bully.
