This is why I miss autumn in the US - Halloween and Thanksgiving provide stairsteps to Christmas, which means there's an unspoken rule against putting out Xmas decorations and sales adverts until the day after Thanksgiving.

In the UK it feels like Christmas is bearing down from about September and there's huge pressure to start baking/ making/ buying!
