Grrrr!!!! I am doing some shopping online for Xmas and DDs 2nd birthday which is Xmas eve. She is mr tumble mad so I was really pleased to ding they did Mr T toys exclusively in tesco - except, they are currently out of stock.

Had a quick look on EBay and there are dozens and dozens of the same toys for sale at massively inflated prices! I know everyone has to make a living but I'm really upset by this!

I'm not sure what to do. Money is tight especially with a birthday and Xmas but I know DD would LOVE these toys. Do I just buy them off eBay and get them less or hope that tesco gets more in and I'm lucky enough to but one before the eBay vultures descend?

I feel like emailing the sellers and telling them that they are out of order. A few quid more I could accept but they are doubling and tripling the price in some cases. Sad Angry.

toys are big business at xmas time. smart people know this and buy early to cash in. of course it's not necessary to hike up the prices. but if people are willing to pay it then why not. things are worth what people are willing to pay for them. if it's not worth £40 to you that's fine, dont pay it. that doesn't mean people are wrong to ask £40 for it. you dont ask you dont get. there is no law against this. ebay exists so people can make money.

tutu100 · 27/10/2012 22:44

Are they actually selling at £40 though? I only say that as one year I wanted a particular toy for ds1. There were lots for sale on ebay from sellers asking more than £20 over the normal shop price. The ebay sellers were claiming this toy was sold out everywhere, it was sold out in some places, but I did find one quite easily in stock at the usual price. When I looked at completed listing none of the articfically high ones had sold.

woopdiedoo · 27/10/2012 22:44

No, not surprised they are trying to make a profit but is it really necessary to triple the price at which they bought them? The seller is selling dozens and dozens. They could still make a nice profit without making the price so high that paupers like me can't afford them Sad.

OP posts:
woopdiedoo · 27/10/2012 22:46

The problem is that this toy is exclusive to tescos - I cannot get it anywhere else except eBay if course. It's shit having no money.

HocusPocusPigInACaldron · 27/10/2012 22:47

What does she want this one's in stock on Tesco's website.

BeingBooyhoo · 27/10/2012 22:49

as i already said. no, of course it isn't necesssary but people dont ask for teh money because it's necessary do they? that's not how making money works. nobody asks just enough to cover their own expenses and nothing else do they? it's about making as much as you can for as little outlay. it's business.

sorry but all this pauper talk is ridiculous. just buy something cheaper. she really wont care.

Scheherezade · 27/10/2012 22:49

Can you order in store?

HocusPocusPigInACaldron · 27/10/2012 22:49

And the phone

woopdiedoo · 27/10/2012 22:50

It's the bag I really wanted to get her and the talking doll. I might get that for her as a backup plan. Thank you for the link Thanks.

There are lots of Mr Tumble toys in stock at Tesco online (picnic set, toy phone, pairs game, soft toy). I'm assuming the specific thing you want is one of the things that's out of stock. You can register for stock alerts which will tell you when the item is back in stock. There's still plenty of time.

babysaurus · 27/10/2012 22:51

OP, I can understand your frustration. I would be the same, and while people use ebay to make money it does somehow seem worse when it's children's toys. Illogically I realise, but still.
Good luck with getting an affordable one for your DD!

woopdiedoo · 27/10/2012 22:51

Sorry, I was trying to be light hearted. Yes, I get all of this - that's not why I posted, just pissed off that I can't get the things I know my DD will love unless I don't get her very much else.

ExitPursuedByAaaaaarGhoul · 27/10/2012 22:51

Sorry OP - it is shit, but tis the way of the world.

And your DD is 2. She really, really won't mind what you get her, nor will she remember when she is older.

JoanBias · 27/10/2012 22:52

HocusPocus, that doll is Chucky! [hshock]

KILL IT!
KILL IT WITH FIRE!

(blasts Mr. Tumble Chucky doll with a shotgun repeatedly)

HocusPocusPigInACaldron · 27/10/2012 22:53

The cheapest Buy It Now Bag on ebay - £14.99

woopdiedoo · 27/10/2012 22:53

Yes, that's my point - I think it's mean when it's over children's toys. Between her and her sister she has other versions of the other stuff but I may consider those things as backup. Thank you.

woopdiedoo · 27/10/2012 22:56

Ooh, thanks for that hocus pocus. I think I will look in store tomorrow then maybe buy off eBay if I have no luck. I was hoping to use some vouchers for tesco to help with the cost but guess it can't be helped. I just needed to vent Grin.

BeingBooyhoo · 27/10/2012 22:56

sorry, i've been a bit harsh. i get that it's shit. i think i'm just so used to being skint now that i'm used to not ever being able to get my dcs the thing they want. i just know that as much as we want something, money dictates whether we get it or not. sorry. i forget that other people might be experiencing this for the first time etc. and it can be hard to accept. i hope you get her something she'll like. ((hugs))

Cabrinha · 27/10/2012 22:58

She's two - TWO! She doesn't need Mr Tumble over priced tat. Give her a cardboard box, some coloured ribbon, some lentils in a re-used plastic bottle. Seriously - if you're feeling like a pauper, take the pressure off and don't buy it.

woopdiedoo · 27/10/2012 23:01

Ah, no problem being - no offence taken. To be fair, it's like thirst years. We always struggle especially at birthdays and Xmas. It never seems to get any easier each year either. Don't know why I feel guilty that I can't get them loads as I know it's not necessary but hard not to get sucked into the commercialism of Xmas. I'm mindful of the fact that as her birthday is Xmas eve that I want to make a big deal of it for her, probably not necessary as she's only 2 but you know what I mean.

I'd wait for Tesco to restock. It's only October.

woopdiedoo · 27/10/2012 23:03

Grin I know cabrinha but believe me she would LOVE a Mr Tumble toy so much. She bloody obsessed!

OP posts:
crackcrackcrak · 27/10/2012 23:04

The doll scares me too. Dd was given a fisher price talking puppy when she was one she was scared of - so much so she's still never played with it. I'm v wary about talking toys.

None of the mr tumble toys grab me but if I had to choose, the phone would probably entertain dd (3) the most. The bag isn't that exciting - thru give away something similar on the comic every now and then!

woopdiedoo · 27/10/2012 23:04

I was thinking that expat and have signed up for the stock alert but knowing my luck they won't get any more in and then there'll be none left on eBay either.
