I was breastfeeding my 5 week old in Tesco cafe a fortnight ago while my toddler had second breakfast and i waited for a prescription.
A member of their contract cleaning staff pointed out that 'i might like to feed in their baby change room'. I said no thank you Important quite happy here. She persists for several minutes in telling me 'it would be better for you' and 'then people won't stare at you'. Despite repeatedly telling her I was OK she persisted and I ended up feeling quite harassed.
I wrote to Tesco and rather than apologizing they just said the staff member was a contract cleaner and not directly employed by them.and so not their problem.
AIBU to suggest it is very much their problem because its their store so ultimately they're responsible for who works there?

YADNBU

i would expect an apology and also a "this is how we will resolve the situation"

Wheatie · 27/10/2012 17:46

no, they should not have passed the buck.

ShutTheFrontDoor · 27/10/2012 18:47

But the cleaner wasn't being helpful. How is telling a breastfeeding mum to hide herself away helpful?

Mosschopz · 27/10/2012 20:11

Can't believe this kind of attitude (the cleaner's) still exists...

LadyEvilBeagle · 27/10/2012 20:13

I know Mosschopz, what a cow, eh?

Yes, we can't have the cleaner talking to people can we.

Yes because the cleaner talking to her was clearly why the OP was upset.

Pointing out something helpfully is kind, labouring the point is not. Cleaner or senior manager, does it matter? The OP didn't say she was going to complain to everyone.
