I was breastfeeding my 5 week old in Tesco cafe a fortnight ago while my toddler had second breakfast and i waited for a prescription.
A member of their contract cleaning staff pointed out that 'i might like to feed in their baby change room'. I said no thank you Important quite happy here. She persists for several minutes in telling me 'it would be better for you' and 'then people won't stare at you'. Despite repeatedly telling her I was OK she persisted and I ended up feeling quite harassed.
I wrote to Tesco and rather than apologizing they just said the staff member was a contract cleaner and not directly employed by them.and so not their problem.
AIBU to suggest it is very much their problem because its their store so ultimately they're responsible for who works there?

She went on so much that she made OP feel harassed-that is out of order. I would ask for the complaint to be passed to the cleaning company so that they can deal with it but I also think Tesco should take some responsibility.

Whooooosualsuspect · 27/10/2012 16:47

Well, lets hope the cleaner doesn't get sacked then. After OP has finished complaining to everyone.

usual if she does, it might teach her a lesson. But be realistic...she won't. She'll get a talking to and good thing too.

Yes, we can't have the cleaner talking to people can we.

Aspiemum2 · 27/10/2012 16:50

Hang on a minute, the OP hasn't even posted back yet, nor as she said she's going to complain to everyone nor that she wants to get the cleaner sacked. Just who is over reacting here?!

Whooooosualsuspect · 27/10/2012 16:51

Well, bloody hell, some posters make such a big deal out of everything that happens.

Whooooosualsuspect · 27/10/2012 16:52

I would just forget it, I wouldn't dream of making such a fuss over something like this.

Still some people love a drama.

Yes she should have backed off, but I still think it's ott to complain.

MrsCantSayAnything · 27/10/2012 17:00

No it's not MrsDevere it's about someone feeding their baby in peace.

LadyEvilBeagle · 27/10/2012 17:00

I agree with Usual.
It is about the lowly member of staff daring to try and be helpful.
If it had been the manager, or company policy, fair enough, say something.
But it really nothing to get so het up about.

Tesco should acknowledge the complaint, pass it on to the cleaning company and THEY should respond to the complaint IMO.

Having the baby room pointed out to you, is helpful; somebody going on and ON about it, is Not.

Of course the cleaner in question will not lose her job over something like this, but if it gets the company to point out to ALL their staff that this is not on all the better.

It is well worthwhile getting het up about it!

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 27/10/2012 17:06

How curious to be on a talk forum and get annoyed that people discuss things.

OP, YANBU.

MrsCantSayAnything · 27/10/2012 17:06

The cleaner repeatedly told the OP about the feeding room DESPITE the op saying no thank you. Which gives rise to thoughts about the OP feeling judged fr feeding in public. THAT is what this is about.

PacificDogwood · 27/10/2012 17:08

Oh, gosh, yes, YADNBU, Op.

Whooooosualsuspect · 27/10/2012 17:09

I'm not annoyed that people discuss things Confused

Whooooosualsuspect · 27/10/2012 17:10

Ok the cleaner was judging her.

You win.

I have been contracted by Tesco to facepaint at an "event" ...really it was a promotion by a sweet manufacturer but it was on their premises. I never saw one Tesco manager or member of staff all day.

I could have been painting "Tesco is Shite" on the kids and they wouldn't have noticed.

Whooooosualsuspect · 27/10/2012 17:21

I expect she will MrsDV Grin
