That a baby wipe classed as "extra sensitive" and can be used on newborns

shouldn't make my face break out in a rash and feel like my face was on fire?!

I don't have sensitive skin normally and use all kinds of different facial cleansers / wipes and last night decided to use the 97% pure water Johnson and Johnson baby wipes to take my make up off with.

I have even read a study about them:
www.manchester.ac.uk/aboutus/news/display/?id=8350
which shows that they are as safe as using water.

Stocked up on 10 packs yesterday at Sainsburys as only a £1 a pack, for newborn - but if they do that to my face do I actually want to use them on a brand new baby's bum?

Anyone else have a problem with them?

I've used baby wipes from day one with all my children. DS is currently 6wks old and hasn't had a sore bum once. I have Pampers sensitive because my aunt bought me a big pack, and Huggies because I like the cucumber smell :)

QueenOfMuppets - I made my own washable wipes with Mothercare's top and tail muslins and some water, a slug of vegetable oil, a tiny squirt of liquid soap and a few drops of tea tree oil in a bottle shaken up and sprinkled on the wipes in a plastic box. They go in the machine with the nappies and cost £9.99 for the muslins.

We have used Huggies sensitive and Pampers sensitive on DS since he was about 4 weeks old. Now we mainly use Aldi sensitive. He hasn't had a reaction from any of them. We have stayed away from Johnson wipes as they gave me dry skin.

i use cheeky wipes as well

Never faffing with cotton wool is another reason for having a home birth.

As to being allergic to them, my DSIS is capable of reacting to anything.

TerrorNotSoFrightened · 24/10/2012 17:43

I took cotton wool in my labour bag to use on my newborn, midwife gave me some wipes and said they were fine to use, which they were.

Took wipes in for 2nd DC and got a row from a midwife [hhmm]

CatsRule · 24/10/2012 17:44

I've never liked Johnsons products and a midwife once told me that Johnsons is the devil for babies skin...ger actual words! I've always avoided any Johnsons products after that!

Even the grapefruit ones would be no good if your baby was allergic to grapefruit, though!

Warm water is enough to get most things off, IME. I mainly used wipes though, much easier.

OP sounds like you had a reaction to one of the ingredients. It doesn't mean that ingredient in itself is awful.

IsSpring lanolin is one of the oldest ingredients used in skincare. It has used for ever and ever (-ish).

Some people are sensitive to it, but then there isn't a substance in the world that someone isn't allergic or sensitive too. It's not some weirdy modern sheep-derived toxin, basically.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 24/10/2012 18:20

EFFING TYPOS.

It has been used for ever and ever.

My MIL was told off by her doctor for using wet wipes to clean "Down there". I had to explain to her about ladies having a special ph balance "Down There" and not to use them for that.

I'm puking as I type.

We used cotton wool & water on DS for the first month. After that Huggies Pure were the only ones which didn't irritate him. And they are always going for a £1 a pack somewhere.

diddl · 24/10/2012 18:59

Well yes, you´d think that if something is supposed to be OK for a newborn´s bum it would also be OK for an adults face.

But I also found Johnson´s stuff irritating to me.

Baby lotion for example-too perfumy!
