to think you don't walk into someone else's house and start fiddling with their heating controls

A friend came round earlier to use my computer. Her broadband has gone kaput and she needed to send some emails urgently.

She came in and the first thing she did was to turn the heating controls right down.

The thermostat is set at 18, it's not cold enough for it to be on anyway, all the radiators are cold.

Bloody cheek. It's irrationally peed me right off

yanbu at all.. I get irritated when my husband does it, and he lives here!!

JackThePumpkinKing · 24/10/2012 11:20

She turned it down ? Confused
That's just weird.

Did you give her a Hmm face and turn it back to 18C? Grin

ENormaSnob · 24/10/2012 11:20

Very very rude.

ViviPru · 24/10/2012 11:21

YY to what squeaky said!

freddiefrog · 24/10/2012 11:32

I opened the front door, she came in, walked down the hall and turned it down on the way past

I was like 'oi!' and she just muttered about how hot she was as she'd been rushing around all morning.

Help yourself to my biscuits, make yourself as much tea and coffee as you like, but, DON'T MESS WITH MY HEATING!!!!

Good grief, that's so cheeky as to almost make me admire her front. But not quite. YANBU.

Did she say anything as she did it or was it a silent guerrilla move?

ViviPru · 24/10/2012 11:36

At least you gave her a cursory 'oi'

I'd have wimpily let it pass then scuttled on here to have a weak-natured bitch about it.

Mrsjay · 24/10/2012 11:37

me too he goes about saying it isn't cold no dear of course not I am wearing 5 jumpers for the laughs Grin

OP YANBU cheeky bugger your friend

ethelb · 24/10/2012 11:37

Why do people who want it to be colder assume some kind of moral superiority over people who want it warmer. It is weird.

cos they think they are ALWAYS right in general

ExitPursuedByAaaaaarGhoul · 24/10/2012 11:41

The cheek of the woman.

We have ongoing battles over the heating controls - we don't need an outsider complicating things further.

That winds me right up too.

Apparently, I need "more blood in my veins". I mean, how do I get more blood? Given that I'm alive, I assume I have the required amount

It was a silent stealth attack on the heating knob.

I wouldn't mind if it was set at tropical or something. It isn't even on!

I wonder why as well. I feel the cold very easily and am utterly miserable when I am cold. I never go and stay with my sister in the winter because their house is freezing, and BIL is far too selfish to consider other people's comfort.

Mrsjay · 24/10/2012 11:44

MY aunty just celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary I was at her house last week and she was arguing with my uncle about the heating I thought jeez they have been arguing about the heating for 50 years Grin

Mrsjay · 24/10/2012 11:46

I used to visit my friend for new year in her old house it was always freezing it was half wood and in the highlands so I forgave her went to her new house in england for new year still cold they are just stingy I now go in june

CaptainVonTrapp · 24/10/2012 11:46

So cheeky!

freddiefrog · 24/10/2012 11:48

lol, my parents argue about their heating too.

It's a touchy subject Grin

I do feel the cold, although I don't think 18c is excessive, but it's my bloody house. Hands off it

JugglingWithPossibilities · 24/10/2012 11:52

DH seems to be on a right stingey mission with the heating this autumn - I'm sure he's never been as bad before. As soon as he comes in he's turning the heating off with a quick grumble in his boots (if that makes sense) Maybe I'm feeling the cold more in my old age [hgrin]

JackThePumpkinKing · 24/10/2012 11:52

tbf, if it's cold you can put a jumper on. If it's hot it's not like you can start stripping off layers Grin

(our office is always boiling. One person wants the aircon off. I am always roasting. I cannot sit here in my bra)

halcyondays · 24/10/2012 12:46

That is very cheeky. If she was too warm, she could have taken a layer off, although it can't have been that hot, if it was at 18. Sometimes I've been in people's houses and been too hot or too cold, but I wouldn't dream of adjusting their heating.

Iheartpasties · 24/10/2012 12:51

I hate my mum and dads house, its always bloody freezing, I'm always bloody miserable there. I couldnt live like that! I cant even cope for a day. miserable.

HeinousHecate · 24/10/2012 12:52

I'd have gone straight to it and turned it up to 30! Grin

I hope you put it back on.

JackThePumpkinKing · 24/10/2012 12:58

God, I'd turn the heating up in my own parents house Grin
(they always wear about 18 layers... they don't notice if there's ice on the inside of the windows)

An alternative is to get my 4yo to shove his freezing cold hands down the back of their necks Grin

DontmindifIdo · 24/10/2012 13:01

DH used to be hot all the time and want the house artic, then he lost 3 stone, now he feels the cold too. So those who are being all morally superior about the heat, point out that they must not feel the cold due to their excess weight and suggest they go on a diet. Grin (FYI, being cold turns me into a bitch)

aquashiv · 24/10/2012 13:01

Thats hilarious. I just imagine then sititng there and going about your business after such rudeness.
