To think I shouldn't be guilt tripped into selling my item so cheaply?

I've put an item/bundle on Ebay starting at 99p. However the item (it's a collection of things) cost me approx £150 in total when I bought it new.

I've already got a few watchers, and tonight have received ten messages asking me to put a 'buy it now price' on the auction. Some people are saying they'll give me £15 for it, as postage is £10, and they don't want to pay more than £25 in total.

I've explained that I believe the item will fetch at least £30, and that I don't think it's fair to expect me to deduct postage from this, as I won't be making profit on postage costs.

I also explained that because so many people have asked for a buy it now price, I don't think it's fair to do so now; it's best to leave it as an auction.

Anyhow. Most people responded quite politely. However, one man has become quite agressive, saying that's not how Ebay works. His son's birthday is on Monday and he would therefore like the item(s) bought and wrapped by then. He says that this item will be very special to and appreciated by his son, and is practically begging me to put a buy it now price of £15. I feel terrible, but I don't think it's fair to put this man before the other people who have enquired about the item.

AIBU leaving it as an auction, thus spoiling this man's son's birthday? (item is no longer available instore/discontinued). I feel like a heartless old moo.

Just ignore him, and block him just incase he ever shows interest in any of your items again.

Glad the sale is going well!

Bogeyface · 23/10/2012 22:48

In future add to your listings...

"THIS IS AN AUCTION!! DO NOT MESSAGE ME ASKING FOR A BUY IT NOW PRICE, I WILL NOT RESPOND AND YOU WILL BE ADDED TO MY BLOCKED BIDDERS LIST"

The messages I used to receive went from several per lot to none!

JackThePumpkinKing · 23/10/2012 22:50

Have a look at parcel2go.com - you can prob courier it for a few quid less, and save yourself a bit of cash :)

Bogeyface · 23/10/2012 22:55

And if I rrc, parcel2go dont print on their labels how much you paid (thank you very much Royal Mail!)

JackThePumpkinKing · 23/10/2012 23:08

Yep, very tru

JackThePumpkinKing · 23/10/2012 23:08

Argh, where did my e go?

midseasonsale · 24/10/2012 00:52

Sell at at the price you intend. He can always give it to his son for Xmas if he wins the bundle.

lisalisa · 24/10/2012 01:09

[whispers] would love to see the link to the bundle [ runs out again]

EleanorBoobsfelt · 24/10/2012 08:52

Yeah I'd like to see the bundle nosey. Grin

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 24/10/2012 08:56

Ignore this buyer. Obviously HE doesnt know he ebay works!

Chelvis · 24/10/2012 09:13

Really do block him! I had someone who messaged me repeatedly about a buy it now price. I refused so he won the auction for a stupidly high price and refused to pay unless I gave it to him for the BIN price he'd offered. I got it sorted eventually (he got a NPB strike) and I got my fees refunded, but it was a real hassle!

I agree, there probably isn't a son. Have a read of the ebay forums on MSE ... there are 000s of stories where bidders/sellers claim to have dying relatives/sick children/job losses etc etc. they call it 'the curse of ebay'!

expatinscotland · 24/10/2012 09:28

Block him!

And next time, don't put anything on at a price less than you are willing to take.

squeakytoy · 24/10/2012 09:31

Bogey, if you use paypal or ebay to print off your posting labels, you dont have to show the actual postage price, there is a tick box to remove that from the label.

JackThePumpkinKing · 24/10/2012 10:59

squeakytoy - very useful, thanks for that! Grin

thecatsminion · 24/10/2012 11:50

Say you'll be in touch if you ever list the world's smallest violin.

JackThePumpkinKing · 24/10/2012 11:53

thecats Bahahahahahaaa

SoupDragon · 24/10/2012 11:56

I agree - block him.

And the only people who are twitchy about having the actual postage price on a label are probably trying to bump up the postage costs.

Woozley · 24/10/2012 12:13

Can you not set a minimum price or just set it up as Buy it Now? Though I think that costs more to list. Interested as am thinking of selling some stuff.

Bubbleburster · 24/10/2012 13:03

What a cheeky sod! I would just block him and ignore him.

Hope you get a great price for your item, it sounds as though you will!

SoggyMoggy · 24/10/2012 13:37

People regularly pester others to set low BIN prices only to turn around and sell the item immediately. I'm another vote to just block Mr. Fake Sob Story.

PrettyPrinceofDarkness · 24/10/2012 13:46

I'd email him to tell him that you're blocking him and why. Seriously, what a complete twunt.

pigletmania · 24/10/2012 14:13

Ignore ignore ignore. If he wants it that desparately he would be willing to pay more. If he is still harassing up you report him to e bay

pigletmania · 24/10/2012 14:15

I agree monkey he sounds like he wants Tia's cheaply as possible to makes a profit from yiu

pigletmania · 24/10/2012 14:16
