I obviously didn't check my last post completely. DH can't spell at all and keeps putting autocorrect back on on the Ipad, drives me mad. Same on our desktop, but he has had to give in and turn it off on that since DS started using it for his homework which needs to be warts and all.

whistlestopcafe · 23/10/2012 12:34

Yes please ZombTee!

GhostShip · 23/10/2012 12:35

I do them often and it's really frustrating, especially when people think you do them on purpose.

Ill and I'll piss me off on this phone too.

merlottits · 23/10/2012 12:41

Yes, most of the autocorrects on here are made up. The minge/mince one made me cringe as it was obvious. They have started to be like 'you've been framed'. Funny at the beginning but then people pretending it was accidental.

The recent thread was hilarious though. I still giggle about Sue, the horse rapist.

merlottits · 23/10/2012 12:42

Oh yes there are lots of accidental ones like I'll and ill. The funny ones are rare though.

Whistle, Put your finger in the box you type in and hold it down until you see the magnify glass. That's your scroll cursor, so drag it around the window to read the whole thing.

As for preview, for MN at least...just click the preview button down below the box you type in! Then you go into the text entry box and using the scroll method above to fix any mistakes.

Nancy66 · 23/10/2012 13:08

toughasoldboots - nope, was pretty obvious to me.

No autocorrect is going to change 'mince' to 'minge' and it's not a typo you'd do if you touch type.

whistlestopcafe · 23/10/2012 13:52

Ok will have a practice now.

whistlestopcafe · 23/10/2012 13:59

No still can't get it to scroll down. If I'm adding a message there is a scroll bar but no preview button. However if you try and start a new thread you can't even scroll down and I can't find the magnifying glass.

ZombTEE · 23/10/2012 13:59

Actually, if you're typing with one finger on a phone screen, you could easily mis-type minge for mince.

I just tried it.

ZombTEE · 23/10/2012 14:00

On the app or on site, whistle. Cuz the app is a whole 'nother ball game.

But in general, if you press down on a text box, you'll get a magnify glass.

Trills · 23/10/2012 14:01

If you turn off autocorrect then everything will be much worse, because most of the time it changes your mistypings for the word you meant to write.

Startailoforangeandgold · 23/10/2012 14:03

I can't turn auto correct off my spelling is too shit!

What I want is a proper spell checker with redlines and arrow keys to scroll back and proof properly.

BUt no, like memory cards, or working with a proper printer, that's too normal for Fucking Apple.

whistlestopcafe · 23/10/2012 14:03

I use the app.

ZombTEE · 23/10/2012 14:04

BINGO! It's not your phone. It's the crappy MN App...use the mobile site. Much better.

Trills · 23/10/2012 14:05

I agree, mobile site is a lot better than the app.

Jux · 23/10/2012 16:17

Afaik, I don't use the app or the mobile site.

I don't care if things would be worse if autocorrect were turned off, I want to do it.

plutocrap · 23/10/2012 16:24

Jux, how did you manage "Afaik"? Has your computer/phone had to learn it?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 23/10/2012 16:28

Easy to turn it off on Iphone etc
Settings, General, Keyboard, Autocorrect off.

Jux · 23/10/2012 18:21

Plutocrap, yes, if I touch the tiny weeny almost impossible to see grey cross when the 'correct' word comes up, then eventually, it learns the one I want. Hasn't managed I'll yet though (I've let that one stand, so the damn thing will probably go back to square one of the learning process, and I have another 25 years of peeing about trying to type ill ahead of me....).

Atomico · 23/10/2012 18:22

I'm using my to post. The auto-correct lasted about a day before I turned it off. It took longer to type with the dam thing on!

Of courde, if I don't check them I rnd up wirh loads of wrong lwtters in there. Grin

Actually, non sensical posts everywhere are starting to get on my nerves to. They seem to be on every site in the world.

Atomico · 23/10/2012 18:25

Oops Blush. A bit of nonsense in there then. That should have "I use my phone to post." Pot. Kettle. Black.

Atomico · 23/10/2012 18:26

That should have SAID. New phone userBlushBlushBlush.

WorraLiberty · 23/10/2012 18:32

I agree

Some posts just look like the poster has eaten a bowl of alphabet spaghetti, and shat across my screen.

Others are just typos that don't matter as it's quite easy to tell what they mean.

Then there's the odd poster who seems to do it on purpose because everyone finds it hilarious but it's clearly fake.

Then there's me who really should give up drunk posting on a Friday night because I can't read a bloody thing I've written the next morning Grin Blush
