My DS slipped in a huge mound of dog poo today on our front lawn.

I have been informed it is a neighbours dog but the informant is also a neighbour and owns a dog.

The dog poo has appeared on my front lawn for years but my DS fell into it. I was so angry inside. He was covered with it (DS is VI).

I feel I want to ask neighbours not to let their dogs out on tbe front of their house to go to the toilet.

I cannot prove it was anybodies specific dog. I guess it is their dog.

AIBU?

(guess I am if cannot prove it was their dog, think other neigjbour is a liar and trouble maker which winds me up)

There's nothing to stop any of us putting a camera to view our own property, there might be issues if it was aimed into your neighbours, but one that covers the approach to your home (ie over your front garden), no prob.

Hope you catch the bastard.

As a responsible dog owner, I am horrified that you and your DS have had such an experience in your garden. It is beyond horrendous.

I hope he is alright.

Poor darling :( how awful I wold be very upset and very angry

Can you print off a few a few flyers with a simple message and post them. I know you should not have to do this but it might shame them

JollyJackOLantern · 22/10/2012 23:26

Hope you get this sorted soon. Sounds like a horrible thing to happen.

Our front lawn is covered in cat shit. All the time. I thought cats were supposed to dig holes and bury it. Not our neighbours' ones.

LonelyCloud · 22/10/2012 23:27

YANBU.

And love the camera idea. Not sure whether you need a sign saying something like "We have CCTV" for the footage to be legally admissible, but it's legal to have cameras covering your own property AFAIK.

Also wondering - where do you stand if the poo culprit is a cat? There's a lot of cats in our neighbourhood, and we find what be belive to be cat poo in our (fenced off) garden quite regularly.

Runningblue · 23/10/2012 18:38

Pepper dust is definitely good to put off cats pooing on the grass and I think it is good for dogs too

  • we bought a house which had been very neglected and every local cat it seemed, loved our lawn. You do have to scoop up - we used nappy bags - as soon as you can, and daub the spot with pepper dust, but it really solved the problem within a month or so.
LonelyCloud · 23/10/2012 20:23

Thanks for the pepper dust suggestion, we'll have to give that a go Smile

You can have a camera up as long as it only points on your garden, not any of the neighbours or the pavement, as far as I know.

Northernlurkerisbehindyouboo · 23/10/2012 20:38

Cat poo isn't usually as slippery and voluminous as dog poo. Fox poo smells hideous.

OP - you might want to contact you local councillor? This is the sort of issue they can often offer great support with.

SoleSource · 23/10/2012 21:12

Good tips hete. I shall speak to counvillor, I think he lives on our road too. My DS birthday present from his TA was an expensive tactile ball she ordered especially. As I write it is sitting in a lump of poo outside.

I'm involved in a group of local mums who got few thousand signatures about dog poo in our streets (we went out on the streets dressed as dogs) and now the council warden team invites us for meetings and we help them communicate stuff they do, such as they have introduced dog poo reporting by text to a special number, they do free dog health sessions and tell people that in our area they can put dog poo in normal bins etc. They have also stencilled no fouling signs on pavements near the school.

So, it is worth trying the warden team because they are keen to work with the community (well, ours is).

They told us that pouring full-fat tonic water where a dog poo has been is one of the best things to get rid of smell.

So sorry for your DS & you, OP!

Catmint- that's inspirational! I might borrow some of your ideas. Great work.

Thanks YOS, I do enjoy being known round here as The Dog Poo Lady. Grin
