Off to euro Disney with my hubby and dd and ds on Saturday. Really looking forward to it but a friend of mine who has been before won't stop going on about what a rip off it is and how she wouldn't go again etc. I feel she's spoiling it before I have even got there!! If you have been can you give me any tips etc. she keeps laughing saying I won't like the food as its all fast food junk and she knows that whilst I'm happy for family to eat whatever they like whilst on holiday she knows I don't really like burgers and chips did every meal. I think she's trying to spoil it tbh.

If it's not too late I would advise you to go half board. You can stock up on breakfast then you get a voucher each for a meal in various places- the hotel or a huge choice of restaurants. If you book a show (like Buffalo Bill) you can use the voucher there too.
Get a breakfast at Cafe Mickey!! Fresh breads, fruit, creal, cheese & meats, it was fab. The characters come out and go everywhere, even with 2 birthdays at other tables when we went we still have some great pics of the DC's with about 10 differeent characters!
Enjoy, it's Fab!

If you can afford it, character dining is a great way for the DC to meet lots of characters without the pushing, shoving or queuing.

Munch - that probably explains it ! not sure about hiring mobility scooters but if you go to the website they have a really good disability section so it would probably tell you there. The other issue for you may be that the wheelchairs etc need hiring daily and you would need your own if you needed it for getting back to the hotel .

Thanks, I'll have a look, the only problem is it'll start me off pining to book up Grin

Disney Paris is my specialist subject I think I could go on Mastermind about it !

EuroDisney is not our cup of tea at all. DH and I promised the DC and we had to go when they were 6 and 10. We booked a deal with Cresta and stayed two night and had two and a half whole days. Can't remember the name of the hotel but it had a pirate ship and I think it's been taken over by Thomson.

We were dreading it and DH can be a frosty, traditional, cultured miserable git where "fun and kids are concerned". WE HAD THE BEST TIME EVER AND EVEN DH ENJOYED IT AND THOUGHT IT WAS BRILLIANT AND VERY WELL EXECUTED AND FANTASTIC VALUE.

We had breakfast at the hotel and it was fine - lots of meat, bread, fruit, cereal - plenty of health choices. Lunch was what it was; it was Disney and it was expensive for what it was but not necessarily junk only - think there was some good junk like a five item children's lunch box and I think DH and I grazed their left overs. (We still have the two plastic Disney coffee mugs that DH and I bought - DC are nearly 18 and 14 now Blush).

The first night we had dinner at a steak bar in the Disney Village. Was fine, albeit expensive at about £60-£70. The 2nd night we had dinner at the hotel restaurant because DH refused to do the "reasonable" buffet option because he didn't want to queue for his food. It was expensive and overpriced but the quality was OK (and there was another option that would have cost half) but we will never forget the happiness of the children and DS having to be taken up to bed because he had tummy ache was exhausted and by the time I got back - DD had slumped forward and fallen asleep in her leftovers. I paid the bill while DH carried her up to bed giggling (him) and I can still remember her little face on his shoulder. Had a decent brandy and a giggle with the couple at the next table whose much smaller dc were still wide awake.

All up I think we spent about £800 for three days. It was brilliant and worth every single penny and we are usually a boring pair of old farts.

Well it's Disney, you don't exactly go for the culinary delights you go for well erm ....Disney!

We've been twice in the past few years and it is expensive, v expensive BUT it isn't all crap! Walts was lovely on main street usa, we found the service and the food is great there.
Anette's Diner for your typical take on 'american food but it was tasty and the portions are fantastic, they do dancing on the counters too which was fun.

Our favourite place to eat was the steakhouse in Disney village, it was expensive and we hadn't booked so had to wait but it was our favourite meal of the trip. We also ate at Planet Hollywood and Rainforest cafe and couldn't complain everyone found something they fancied! Mikeys diner for breakfast also well worth a mention but it'll cost. Enjoy! i'm v jealous (and I bet your friend is too)

If you are really worried about money, take snacks with you. I did! I took some cereal bars because I'm slightly addicted. I saw lots of people with their own snacks, clearly from home. If you're staying in a hotel with B&B, eat a massive breakfast, then you'll only need a snacky lunch. I did this; big breakfast, chips or pasta for lunch, (even the fast food places did things like pasta with tomato sauce and chicken salads) then went to one of the less junky restaurants for dinner. We did the Hard Rock Cafe, Planet Hollywood and Cafe Mickey.

I'm jealous. I had the best time there and please don't let your miserable friend spoil it for you and your family!

I'm glad so many people have been positive for you- we went a year after my ds's ASD diagnosis and truly bonded as a family at Disneyland Paris. I did research before we went ( fan sites, menus, how fastpass works ) and we gir so much out of it. The Brits guide book to Disneyland Paris is your go to source if you're looking for a book. Put it this way, we got back in the door and DH wanted me to ring up and book it again!

I so hope you and your family enjoy it.

givemeaclue · 23/10/2012 09:26

It is fantastic you will have a great time. Yes the food is,over priced and not very good -that not what you go to Disney for! Next time she pipes up just say "we aren't going for the food so that's not a problem". Repeat till she shuts up.

ja9 · 23/10/2012 09:35

We bought the meal vouchers and booked our restaurants in advance. Agree that food quality isn't amazing but that's not what you're going for. We took a bag of snacks - juice cartons, fruit, brioche rolls, cereal bars etc and used these to help pass time in queues and cover lunch.

We were there for 6 days. Each child got to choose a toy from the shops on the last day.

We spent less than £100...and that included what the kids spent. We had taken about £600. Hadn't expected to spend so little!

I don't feel like we were ripped off at all....

Buying popcorn at the cinema in the UK...not that is being ripped off!!

Fwiw, we loved the Steakhouse in Walt Disney Park - felt like a classy restaurant, great for the kids and lovely 'adult' food for us.

We had a fabulous time and I would return in a heartbeat! Enjoy your hol!
