Off to euro Disney with my hubby and dd and ds on Saturday. Really looking forward to it but a friend of mine who has been before won't stop going on about what a rip off it is and how she wouldn't go again etc. I feel she's spoiling it before I have even got there!! If you have been can you give me any tips etc. she keeps laughing saying I won't like the food as its all fast food junk and she knows that whilst I'm happy for family to eat whatever they like whilst on holiday she knows I don't really like burgers and chips did every meal. I think she's trying to spoil it tbh.

I love DLP and I love fast food, but even I think the food is dire. However, this won't spoil your enjoyment as it is fab. Take snacks with you/make sandwiches from the breakfast buffet and enjoy yourself!

Mine were too busy doing to want to spend time eating so I took a load of cereal bars, crisps, biscuits with us & they had macdonalds some days. Breakfast was quite filling & we did a character tea one day. You will enjoy it, it really does seem like another world when you are there & sequoia lodge is great cos it's within walking distance & has a pool. Beware the pumpkins though - they can be a bit mischievous!!! The heroes & Villains parade was great too & they had a giant pumpkin where you could have your face glitter painted - queued for ages with dds for that one!!1

We went in January and had an amazing time. Didn't tell the kids they were going until we got there.

We made the odd lunch from the rolls and ham at breakfast. We also went in the little station shop for cheaper packets of crisps, bars of choc

Is it too late to pre-buy the dinner vouchers? We paid £88 for a meal for 4 in Mickeys, the bill on the night should have been ?120 off so much cheaper way of doing it. If you do Mickey's Cafe you don't have to worry about the scrum at the meet the character time (either that or sharpen your elbows), some people just don't have the manners they were born with

Same with the dinner with the princesses. My DD2 burst into tears when we walked in there, she was beside herself. Her reaction made me cry Blush

You'll have a blast, I went with low expectations but had one of the best few days away ever, I loved every minute

Have fun!

crashdoll · 22/10/2012 19:46

It's expensive but it's a special trip, so it's worth it. Your 'friend' is mean. I'd never dream of saying that! I'd tell a friend to ensure they take plenty of money as everything there is pricey but only as genuine advice.

freddiefrog · 22/10/2012 19:54

It is a rip off, but I knew that when I booked it. My kids had been dying to go for years, so I sucked it up. It was a really special trip and I'd love to go again

It wasn't quite as bad as I expected tbh, we didn't spend as much as I thought, and we'd saved hard for a couple of years so we didn't have to say no to anything.

We found a few ways to save money - using the station shop for picnic-y food saved us ?20 at lunch, so the ?60 bill at dinner didn't hurt so much

RyleDup · 22/10/2012 19:54

I've been there today. We're staying at a campsite nearby. The queues are horrendous and I feel well and truly ripped off at the price of the food. But the kids enjoyed it and thats the main thing. Now I'm going to put my feet up and enjoy some vino!

beingagoodmumishard · 22/10/2012 19:55

we found the food was better at the "all you can eat" buffet type restaurants rather than fast food places (which are pretty grim). We ate at the Cafe Agrabah in Adventureland, which serves Moroccan style food, and Billy Bob's Western Saloon in the Disney Village. Would also recommend a character meal (we had a breakfast one) where a number of characters turn up. I think DH and I were just as excited as DS (7) Grin. It's a very good way of seeing a large number of characters without having to queue for hours

OhTheConfusion · 22/10/2012 19:58

We did find it very expensive but we also loved it so much we are heading back in March!

There are very few places that are not fast food (im really not a fan) but it is only a few days and in the Disney hotels we tend to eat a decent breakfast (yogurt, fruit and a pastry. They also have cheese, bread, hams etc) and a cup of coffee or two to set us up for the day ahead!

We tended to have a quick snack at lunch and a bigger meal at night when the park was closing. During the day Buzz light years pizza planet was a hit with the kids, DH enjoyed his pastrami, and me my turkey salad, sandwich from the new york sandwich co(Disney village but ideal for a snack between parks). At night we used The Rainforest Cafe (same as London), nice chilli, lovely warm salads etc, Planet Hollywood for ribs and the Yaught club in the newport bay hotel is nice. You can use the free shuttle bus to go there at night if your knackered too!

We also booked a charachter afternoon tea... lots of cakes, donughts and fizzy drinks... but the kids adored it and got up close and chatted with all their favourite screen idols!

Remember to take in the shows as well as the rides and ignore your 'friend'!

Have you looked on the dibb www.thedibb.co.uk forums - they have a very active Disneyland Paris forum going, and I know lots of the members have info on having the best time there with disabilities and how to get the best value for money.

Asamumnonsense · 22/10/2012 20:03

The food is very expensive but its not just chips and burgers.Honestly with the fun you will have you won't think about it too much. It's only one stop away from a massive shopping centre so you can buy healthier/cheaper food there if you get fed up.
It is amazing and at this time of the year, the night parades are beautiful. Have fun

OhTheConfusion · 22/10/2012 20:05

*Yaucht Club even!

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/10/2012 20:14

We have annual passes for Disneyland Paris. Blush

Walt's and the restaurant at Pirates of the Caribbean are good, and most of the places in the Village are fine. Apart from these, the food in the park and studios is a) expensive and b) revolting. Annette's Diner is fun, with the servers on roller skates. Do sort out a disabled access pass for your DS - it will make life so much easier for you all.

Oh and if you go to the shopping centre at La Vallee, there is a food court there, if you want something a bit different and a respite from Disney.

beanandspud · 22/10/2012 20:22

The food is expensive but there are good places to eat. We blew the budget and went to the character dining at Inventions in the Disney Hotel on our last night which was just magical (and the food was excellent).

Like a lot of other posters we had a big breakfast, snacks at lunchtime and then a decent dinner. Take plenty of cereal bars, raisins etc. to keep the kids going when queuing; also the shop at the station is good for snacks/sandwiches. Despite the bag searches I never saw anyone getting food confiscated - I think it's just to prevent families rocking up with huge cool boxes and setting up picnics on the castle lawns Grin

We loved the studios - many of the attractions last a bit longer (stunt show was about 40mins iirc) so although you might not do as much the pace isn't quite as frantic.

SchrodingersMew · 22/10/2012 20:34

I didn't even see a burger or hotdog the entire time we were there and we stayed in a Disney hotel. Confused

I always get a bit puzzled when people say it's all junk as I honestly didn't see any, the closest thing I had to junk food was a salmon and roule croissant!

The prices for soft drinks and water might make you cry though.

Scheherezade · 22/10/2012 20:57

I lovelove dlp, we went at Christmas and you can buy hot roast chesnuts at Belle's village

OhTheConfusion · 22/10/2012 21:11

Oh and a lovely sweet treat for anyone is the toffee apples you get on main street!

MunchMunch · 22/10/2012 22:03

Just wait until you turn onto Main Street and look to your left! The castle towering over the quaint little street is f'ing amazing !

We went last November and the weather was lovely, I even walked round without a coat.

We paid about ?20/?25 for a couple of adult meals and 2 kids meals from mcdonalds. One night we waited (shoulder to shoulder chest to back!!) for over 1 1/2 hours to be served, they ended up squeezing through the crowd taking orders on a pad thingy. There are loads of places in the food village to eat and yes its expensive and mostly fast food but itwon't kill you for a couple ofdays.

Have a fab time, im very jealous Grin

Floralnomad · 22/10/2012 22:10

We have been every year since it opened and its fantastic. Personally I've never felt that it was particularly expensive from a meal point of view. If your DC has a blue badge that's all you need to get a disabled pass ,if not take a letter from your GP or paediatrician . Having a disabled access pass is a real advantage especially at busy times of the year ( my DD has a blue badge ). The Halloween season is lovely out there and they go to town bringing out all the villain characters. Hope you have a great time .

carocaro · 22/10/2012 22:12

You can pay in advance for half board, breakfast and lunch or dinner, it defo does work out cheaper. One day we went out early to the park, taking advantage of being able to get in at 8am as we were Disney hotel guests, definately worth getting up and out for. The came back to the hotel to use the lovely pool at the sequioa lodge, then went back to the park for about 5pm and stayed till we were kicked off after the show about 11.45pm. You do need to book breakfast too before you go as you could end up with a crack of dawn slot or very late, or waiting ages. There is a Starbucks in the Disney village too. You will have a totally brilliant time, the look on my DS's faces when hugging Winnie the Pooh, fab. Oh and I got squiffy on cocktails in the Sequia Lodge bar (kids totally allowed) is was lovely!

People do push and shove sometimes, but be polite and stand your ground, but only the minority.

VivaLeBeaver · 22/10/2012 22:17

You're going at thebest time, Halloween is fab there. The popcorn they sell on the street is lovely.

MunchMunch · 22/10/2012 22:22

Floralnomad i think the reason i found it expensive for food is because I live in the north east and can get 2 adult meals and 3 kids meals for around £17. I suppose if you live down south you might find the prices about the same.

Just wondering, can you hire electric scooters in the parks? My mam would need to use one and we've been debating our travel options, a wheelchair wouldnt really be an option as she's not particularly light . Ta. Smile

stealthsquiggle · 22/10/2012 22:27

What we did find expensive when we went in really, really cold weather with small DC was stopping for hot drinks in order to warm DC up.

Your friend is being a right moo. If you suspend disbelief and enjoy your DC's reactions, it is a magical place and I love it.

Have fun.

amck5700 · 22/10/2012 22:28

I must admit we were all craving fruit after a while :)

However, although it looks expensive, the buffet meals (there is one just off the main street, can't remember what it is called) are actually pretty good value - and there are loads of veg and fruit and it's a help yourself buffet. :) My boys weren't interested in the parades, so we went in there while the parade was on and virtually had the place to ourselves and loads of delicious food.

Just take a bag of apples and some tubes of pringles with you together with some cartons of juice and then you can at least have something to snack on rather than constantly looking for somewhere to get a drink or small snack. The juice you buy is usually far too big and then you are left on the toilet hunt! For a big place I found the toilets to be a bit scarce (and well hidden) for some reason.

My boys likes a hot chocolate from the vending machine in the station which was cheap! It also did waffles too which they liked but were a bit sugary for my taste.
