Right was invited to dinner by sil, thought oh lovely sunday dinner

Got the kids cleaned up and oh put on a shirt , brought a smart bottle of veno

Got ther only to be greeted by cocktail sausages, garic bread and the cheap magtertia pizza yu get from iceland

There was 6 of us including them there was one pizza, one garlic bread and 8 cocktail sausages WTF

This is not because they are poor my brother is a chemical engineer ffs and drives a TVR

I would never serve that to any guest never mond the poor content its also the amount

We have had to get the children a ready roasted chicken on the way home with some salad and jackets

I wouldn't be fuming but I would be rather bemused that anyone would think that's enough to feed six people.

WeAreEternal · 21/10/2012 17:38

I laughed so hard at Akisss comment.

That is the kind of 'meal' you would serve guest on a week night at short notice, not for an invited Sunday dinner.

TidyGOLDDancer · 21/10/2012 17:43

Akiss is on fire this weekend! I believe I have already declared my love for this particular MNer on a previous thread.

MissPants · 21/10/2012 17:44

YANBU. Unless of course she went to the effort of making a pineapple centrepiece with oodles of lovely ham. In which case, it was awesome. Clearly.

Groovee · 21/10/2012 17:45

Its like the time dh's SIL got us 2 6 slice pizza's between 8 :-( Then her greedy son gobbled 3 slices and she moaned he was hungry.

HeinousHecate · 21/10/2012 17:46

Invite them round for dinner and have one chip on a plate in the middle of the table. Grin

helenthemadex · 21/10/2012 18:03

new nouvelle cuisine maybe Grin

IneedAsockamnesty · 21/10/2012 18:04

have you perhaps fibbed about the lack of food or did she seriously provide 1 normal sized pizza 8 cocktail sausages and a few bits of garlic bread?

how many is a few and was there seriously nothing else.

ledkr · 21/10/2012 18:08

Ate you sure they weren't full sized bangers but that you had all been made massive by dh's invention that went wrong and so they just looked like cocktail sausages.

Oh yeah who got the extra 2?

CommandoBlueberry · 21/10/2012 18:11

Are you sure you've not mistaken dinner and lunch? And you've actually left before dinner?

It was 16:51 when you posted, is that not a little early for "dinner"?

ledkr · 21/10/2012 18:17

Still a rather inadequate lunch though eh?
Pil do this come here and feast like gannits then serve us tiny portions when we go to theirs. Strangely I always forget to go shopping before they visit Grin

catgirl1976 · 21/10/2012 18:21

Wow.........................that's not a lot of food!

I could eat that on my own Grin

Did you say anything?

pumpkinsweetie · 21/10/2012 18:22

Grin this reminds me so much of my boxing day at the ILs before we became estranged!- A 25 piece iceland combi platter to share between 7 adults & 8 kidsGrin, we got about one morsel each and to top it off we had to share a can of vimto between 3 people!
Then mil preceded to moan about having to give away her vimpto Shock!
Believe it or not she invited everyone to a boxing day feast(morsel) and they weren't skint!

I'm not snobby by any means, will eat anything, but there has to be enough of it to go roundGrin

Yanbu...I could eat that by myself.

Also eager to know if you mentioned the lack of food. Or if a, 'mmm, pizza before a roast dinner!' comment was made?

LonelyCloud · 21/10/2012 18:45

Is it possible that there was some sort of kitchen catastrophe - like accidentally dropping a cooked chicken into something unspeakable - so SIL had to rummage in the freezer, and was then too embarrassed to say anything?

Or maybe they've spent all their money on the TVR and can't afford food?

Because I can't imagine any other scenario in which I'd serve up the dinner you describe.

catgirl1976 · 21/10/2012 18:46

Thanks Raspberry Grin

Did you stop for a takeout on the way home? I bet you were / are all starving! And Confused

Are they all vair skinny in that family?

CuriosityColaKilledTheCat · 21/10/2012 19:03

Another thought...are neither of them good cooks? I have a friend who invites you for dinner and it is always either take-away or sandwiches.

Quadrangle · 21/10/2012 19:12

Sounds a bit stingy yes. What is Newton's Catering? Blush

freddiefrog · 21/10/2012 19:19

Reminds me of Boxing Day at the inlaws.

We are supposed to arrive at 10am on the dot.

At 2pm they serve half a jacket potato, a slice of turkey and 2 pickled onions each. It's the same, every single bloody year. We take a packed lunch to eat in the car on the way home

Heavensmells · 21/10/2012 19:29

Is it me and my filthy mindor does fumming sound really rude?

mrswoz · 21/10/2012 19:48

Why did you take a bottle of cough medicine with you? Hmm

GodisaDJ · 21/10/2012 19:52
