Pantomime. What a load of absolute shit.

Cringworthy, embarassing, noisy, other peoples children being loud. Men pretending to be women. Sexist jokes. Women pretending to be men. Precocious children trying to dance. Shit music.

I loved them when I was small. I have a Christmas birthday and was always invited up on stage where the cast sang Happy Birthday to me. Can't wait to take DD to one - though I'd prefer it not to have a celeb has-been in it.

It's the only theatre we've ever left in the interval. Dreadful. And I'm not a prude but I was surprised at just how risqué the jokes were.

I felt dreadful slinking off, the theatre was full of school parties who stayed in their seats, so we were conspicous leaving. The staff tried to keep us there with offers of ice creams.

Oh I love a bit of panto! We go every Christmas Eve - for the last seven years or so it's been the same two guys who star at our local theatre - they are absolutely fantastic! We don't even notice the Z list zlebs who are in it, it's the slapstick and sheer brilliance of the physical comedy that has us in absolute stitches.

I'm 47, going on 7 :)

I'm looking forward to this year's one. It's the first year that all 3 dc will be in, and I suspect I'll be chaperoning the younger chorus for most of it, but will make sure I see it once, if I'm not sick of the songs by then. I've already had enough of one of them, but I guess at least they're learning their words early. Grin

We took DS to one in a village hall when he was about 4. He clearly thought it was rubbish and kept making a break for the exit. About the only time I can ever recall being grateful that he wouldn't sit still and listen as it gave me an excuse to leave at the interval.

I love them and DD is one this year.

I love them- part of Christmas.

YANBU. I really do not enjoy pantomime. Our local one has the same cast every year, essentially the same plot, maybe slightly different costumes. Goes on for hours. Cringey.

I have no choice either, I have to go. Compulsory pantomime attendance.

Butkin · 20/10/2012 23:11

Have been to the one in Milton Keynes a couple of times which does have big name stars and high production values. Wouldn't bother if we didn't go again but did enjoy taking DDs American cousins because they find the whole thing so wierd. Sometimes we take them for granted but seen through the eyes of a foreigner they are a very quaint British custom.

Those ones shown on tv are dreadful. But I've found local ones with no stars in can be pretty good.
