Pantomime. What a load of absolute shit.

Cringworthy, embarassing, noisy, other peoples children being loud. Men pretending to be women. Sexist jokes. Women pretending to be men. Precocious children trying to dance. Shit music.
Keith Chegwin in Aladdin.

Oh I love a good panto. Am dreading the time when the children outgrow them and I won't have an excuse to go any more.

notcitrus · 20/10/2012 17:18

Good panto is fab.
Bad panto is cringemaking...

DameMargotFountain · 20/10/2012 17:21

Mintyy we should have a panto meet-up Grin

i used to hijack a DN when my own DSs were too old to go, that's one reason we had DD Wink

Yabu to go to a pantomime in October

JudeFawley · 20/10/2012 17:23

I totally agree, but it's all part of the Christmas build up here.

I have just bought 6 overpriced tickets to (no doubt) see someone I have never heard if from Neighbours.

I always go in miserable and come out brain dead jolly.

shewhowines · 20/10/2012 17:27

I love them. I still remember my grandma taking me when I was 10. She fell asleep and snored during a quiet bit. Oh the embarrassment! Blush

BalthierBunansa · 20/10/2012 17:37

YANBU! To be honest, Pantomimes have been giving be second hand embarrassment before I even knew what second hand embarrassment was!

mummytime · 20/10/2012 17:42

Oh my favourite bit in Aladdin was when the Iron set fire to Window Twankies ironing for real.

BalthierBunansa · 20/10/2012 17:45

mummytime Sounds like a great night Grin

JudeFawley · 20/10/2012 17:50

The best one we saw had Cinderella getting into her glass carriage ( to be pulled by real pony, ffs).

Pony bolted across stage as she did so, leaving her perched on a block looking panic stricken into the wings!

hellsbells76 · 20/10/2012 17:50

I usually avoid them like the plague but made an exception for the glorious bizarreness that was Vanilla Ice playing Captain Hook in Chatham last year. Bloody wonderful. And I was sober.

trice · 20/10/2012 17:51

I love panto, but it is better with a couple of drinks under your belt. You just have to go with the flow.

Startailoforangeandgold · 20/10/2012 17:57

Nothing like as shite as the few times I've stupidly wasted my money going to a serious play.

pointyfangs · 20/10/2012 17:58

I love panto, but only at our local theatre. No B-list celebrities, they do all their own scripts, their jokes are local and politically incorrect, they accommodate any kind of heckling (I should know, I did some).

They're also affordable but not amdram. I wouldn't go for the big commercial productions though.

noblegiraffe · 20/10/2012 19:17

I've never been to a proper professional one, aren't they just like a really really really long episode of Justin's House?

DameMargotFountain · 20/10/2012 19:18

noblegiraffe

yes, but with less innuendo Grin

CaliforniaLeaving · 20/10/2012 21:35

I love them. My oldest Ds shot up on stage to sing Old MacDonald in the small village hall Panto when he was 6 shocked me, he was the shyest kid ever, but apparently has a flare for Panto, who knew!

socharlotte · 20/10/2012 21:58

You aren't the target market are you, unless you are under 11 or so?

FizzyLaces · 20/10/2012 22:01

I always find Panto's peak early and I want to go home by the intermission. Until then, they are vaguely amusing, though!
