She said "i'm going toilet"and then ran off. I called her back and said "you mean "I am going to the bathroom" ". And got her to repeat it bak before she could go.

Of course, bathroom, toilet, loo, whatever word you choose, but the poor expression of it shocked me!

AIBU?

I've heard it a lot from people from Lancashire. "I'm going shop" etc.

Pavlovthecat · 19/10/2012 21:36

still about txt spk, there must be a proper txt version of it mustn't there? I mean people in nightclubs and pubs txt each other when they are next to each other, so there must be one.

YANBU

It is just laziness.

DD has started saying soz instead of sorry. I have made it clear I do not like it.

Pavlovthecat · 19/10/2012 21:38

moogs nope. Kids are now asleep, Dh is working. It is Friday. I have no wine. It is no more important that the things you are reading and posting about on MN Grin

moogalicious · 19/10/2012 21:39

Usual, no MY accent is the the ultimate in lazy speak innit.

moogalicious · 19/10/2012 21:40

Ditto Pavlov, but I have wine...

Pavlovthecat · 19/10/2012 21:40

"Soz" now that is really lazy! Proper txt spk like actually saying 'lol'. I actually heard someone at work say that once. I did not correct them as they were not my own child...

honeytea · 19/10/2012 21:41

Do you live in devon? Your right to correct her, a Devon accent is not an asset when not in Devon and looking for a job/chatting to people of the opposite sex. My friends have a little Devonshire twan when we all get together and drink lots of wine when we are home for christmas but when we meet in another part of the world/country you wouldn't be able to tell where we came from we speak with fairly neutral accents. It's good to be able to turn that accent on and off.

Pavlovthecat · 19/10/2012 21:42

Wine would be nice. Can't drink it anyway. However tomorrow I shall be. Then I am sure my own London accent will become pronounced Wink

honeytea · 19/10/2012 21:42

twang not twan

moogalicious · 19/10/2012 21:43

Actually, I would correct someone who said lol

honey ooooh. Not just Devon Grin I can turn my accent on or off. Well, I think I can. I can at least speak more softly than I used to, and pronounce my 't's and 'th' now.

OP posts:
moogalicious · 19/10/2012 21:45

My accent is so lazy I would just say 'shop'.

Ahh, fuck it. No I wouldn't.

Lol.

qo · 19/10/2012 21:46

I can top soz, my dd, nearly 12, says "soz brah"

dementedma · 19/10/2012 21:50

Never ever heard "going toilet".

RedGreenWhiteViolet · 19/10/2012 21:51

My dad does that to my nephew. Every time he says anything, he skips the 'to the' and my dad lectures him for over 10 minutes. All it has done is made my nephew alter his language when with my dad, not in any other situation. Pick your battles!

My nephew was on the phone at our house last week. His side of the conversation was just 'allow'....'allow'.....'he's gassed'.....'allow that!'...'lol'. I wondered if it was code because he knew I could hear. Confused

Pavlovthecat · 19/10/2012 21:53

red no need to lecture, she is 6. She does as she is told. 30 seconds tops.

OP posts:
Pavlovthecat · 19/10/2012 21:54

Ad the typical mother sentence "i don't care what she does when she is out of the house, but she won't do it in front if me" fits in quite nicely.
Ooooh, you don't know how long I have wanted to say that to my dd for Grin

YANBU. "Going toilet" sounds stupid. I've heard adults say it more than children. It sounds common

usual don't be upset at not technically being called common, because it is crossed out. I got called wanky, for real. On Aibu, you got to wear hard hats, we all know it, it is written at the top.
