to think houmous isn't that posh?

Friend made a tongue in cheek comment about a few of my friends babies eating houmous from weaning age.

I love houmous, therefore get to eat my babies scraps :) and have a stinky little friend along the way Wink

Seriously - is it still considered as a 'posh' food?

Posh - no
Revolting - yes

MrsKeithRichards · 19/10/2012 16:38

Since when has it been posh?

I can't imagine that anyone has ever thought of houmous as being posh Grin.

BananaBubbles · 19/10/2012 16:40

It's just food. It isn't at all posh imho, just food, that tastes and looks like cat sick. I don't think of any food as being 'posh',unless one is sitting down to a plate of platinum encrusted zebra eggs perhaps.

Seabright · 19/10/2012 16:40

I have only just discovered it. And discovered how easy it is to make! My DD loves it, but thinks it's called "Thomas" not "hummous"

sooperdooper · 19/10/2012 16:41

It's not posh, it only costs about a quid a tub, how can it be? It's the same price as sour cream and chive dip, that's not posh! ;)

ObiWan · 19/10/2012 16:42

I must admit, I'm not keen on feeding it to the baby if I have to spend much time with them afterwards. Gralic breath right in your face is grim.

AllYoursBaBOOshkAHH · 19/10/2012 16:42

I read that as "To think houmous isn't nail polish"

newmummytobe79 · 19/10/2012 16:42

:) I thought not! (said in my most posh voice I'll av you know!)

Seabright - I love your post - I think I'll rename it Thomas in our house too! :)

Definitely not posh.

claraschu · 19/10/2012 16:44

Hummous is delicious. I love middle-Eastern food.

PropertyNightmare · 19/10/2012 16:44

It's not even remotely posh. I've seen working class people wearing Super Dry jackets and Crocs buying it in Morrisons. Plus my sister tells a story of a man she knows who lives in a council house and apparently he loves carrot sticks dipped in humous.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 19/10/2012 16:46

It's not posh, but people who maybe don't eat a wide variety of food, (older people? people who like fairly plain food?) would maybe eat it? When we were weaning DD she loved home made guacamole, and a few people (parents and older friends) were a bit 'ooh, get you giving your 6 month old guacamole...' Confused

Like someone up-thread said, it ain't quails eggs and caviar....

simbo · 19/10/2012 16:46

Not posh, and my kids love it. Ultimate convenience food.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 19/10/2012 16:47

Maybe not eat it...

Seabright · 19/10/2012 16:47

Newmummy - Excellent. Thankfully, she doesn't have a little friend of the same name, which might be awkward.

Any suggestions on Tzatziki (my total fave dip)?

newmummytobe79 · 19/10/2012 16:47

Therefore I am not being unreasonable :)

One does love being right, one does Wink

It's scruffy hippy food, no? (Speaking as a scruffy ecofreak myself)

dashoflime · 19/10/2012 16:48

Lots of things are not expensive or nice but are nevertheless cultural markers of middle classness. Hummous is one of them. YABU

Fakebook · 19/10/2012 16:50

I don't think its posh. DD hates it though :O(

Hoummous isn't posh. It's Turkish food that lots of people eat.

Oh. Sorry i don't mean that Turkish people aren't posh (although my Turkish neighbours are definitely un-posh.)

newmummytobe79 · 19/10/2012 16:51

Seabright - my rule of thumb? Always feed the kids what you love unless on a diet :)

Tzatziki would be a fab name for a cat though Wink
