In reply to 'cyclists having a deathwish'. All these things have happened this week, no wonder we're an angry bunch! I cycle everyday to work and drop DS (18mo) off at nursery on the way

  • IF I INDICATE RIGHT, DO NOT THEN OVERTAKE ME ON MY RIGHT HAND SIDE! thanks. If one more person overtakes me on my right hand side when i've indicated, i will purposefully fall off my bike and claim then knocked me off and sue them
  • A cycle lane is for me to cycle in, not for you to park.
  • a woman doing her make up in her mirror at 7:30am drove through a red light, when me and DS were trying to cross the road at the green man and clipped our back wheel, sending us flying. He is fine, thanks to a helmet. (cycle on the pavement at busy times when I have DS and pavements are empty)
  • If you insist on driving your little darlings to school in a fucking ridiculous 4x4, it's not my problem to make way for you and you should drive behind me sensibly until it's safe to overtake and not drive me into the pavement
  • When there are road works blocking half the road, i am infront of you and have right of way. I shouldn't have to stop and wait for their to be a gap so I can overtake roadworks, you go after me and don't try and run me over

-Me and DS always have helmets and lights on. BUT if i have cycled by myself to the gym in the evening, i may not have a highvis jacket on or lights because I was expecting it to be dark. You're issue, i'm going down a road with fucking lights everywhere, it's not an excuse not to see me. I shouldn't have to paint mysef flurouscent just because you're distracted.

  • Crossroads? Deathroads. I have to wait for a car going the way i'm going to cycle alongside and guide me across safely, or i would be pummeled.

-If you are on your phone. text/talking, you deserve to be shot.

  • Mostly, I am on a bike. You are on your ass in a car. I am cold. It is usually wet too. I have a baby on my bike. GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK AND LET ME CYCLE!
  • If you ever shout at me out the window for being a good human being and not poluting the planet and excercising, unlike you lazy bastards in cars, then i will remember you. Just because you can drive off afterwards, doesn't mean you get the last word.

I can't even explain my fury, I am so angry at the other thread. i'm sure i've missed some off.

You seem to be the type of cyclist who gives cyclists a bad name. You can't make up rules to suit you and then complain when people don't adapt to your version of the rules!

PickledFanjoCat · 19/10/2012 15:19

And if you genuinely genuinely thought that why would you take ds on the bike?

It would be like white water rafting.

Sensationalist nonsense!

Nancy66 · 19/10/2012 15:19

OP you sound very stressed. Can I recommend a car?

A nice big one with giant wheels and soft, sumptuous seats.

mrsfuzzy · 19/10/2012 15:20

actually jam, i do not feel the need to swear and be aggressive to complete strangers on pavements riding cycles or other wise, neither do i need to swear and be so abusive on mumsnet either to anyone. you on the other hand seem to have alienated many people to your arguement, i have empathy with your cause, it is difficult for cyclists and motorists but everyone has their own thoughts about it, i hope that things can work out for you in a positive way, your sons' safety has to be paramount after all, i can understand why you are upset and it is wrong that you feel threatene on the road it must be very scary, i couldn't do it either, illegal on not.

jam17 · 19/10/2012 15:20

im not endangering pedestrians in the slightest. There's barely anyone around, it's quite industrial. Those who are happily move! I'm not a commuter going at a miillion miles an hour, i've got a baby on my bike for god sake! we're barely going faster than a pedestrian anyway. I'm certainly not endangering life in anyway.

OP posts:
PickledFanjoCat · 19/10/2012 15:20

I forgot it was dark in October - your issue!

Hilarious.

Megatron · 19/10/2012 15:21

I'm pretty amazed that if the OP thinks all car drivers are idiots, she continues to put her baby at risk by continuing to cycle with them. If I had felt that when I took mine on my bike when they were little, I would have stopped immediately. Bleating about it on an internet forum is not going to change anything.

TakeMyEyesButNotTheGoat · 19/10/2012 15:21

So I'm a lazy bastard because I have to drive my car to get to work on time, dropping DD off to my DM on route? At 7am in the morning.

How wonderful for you to have the luxury of time.

Also, if you were on the road with your DS, I was driving my car with DD and you had a wobble/ dodged a pot hole right in front if me, am I expected to swerve my car into oncoming traffic? Slam on my breaks for some car to go into the back if me to protect your and yours while putting me and mine in danger?

Am I supposed to drive 10mph on a main road causing huge tail backs because I can't over take you during rush hour?

Some car drivers are idiots, some cyclists are idiots.

Your attitude on this thread makes you an idiot.

HTH

Kalisi · 19/10/2012 15:22

Then my suggestion is not to pull out on a driver doing 30 mph....shit! I'm doing it again! Kalisi stop posting go do something productive Blush

Sirzy · 19/10/2012 15:22

So your happy to judge all drivers on some made up crap bad experiences but you complain about people judging you based on what you admit to doing? Cool case of double standards!

Lueji · 19/10/2012 15:23

I'm sure they aren't all trying to kill you.
Just those who have read this thread.

And I'm not sure you have accomplished anything really.

Maybe I should call you an idiot too because some twat cyclists go in groups side by side on the road, and others are on a road (not using the cycle lane) that has a continuous line, and the one who was almost knocked down by me, turning left (on a turning left only lane), whilst he was on my left and turning right.

BUT if i have cycled by myself to the gym in the evening, i may not have a highvis jacket on or lights because I was expecting it to be dark.
Sorry, what?

Oh, yeah, the ones not wearing anything remotely highvis/lights when dark or when there's fog.

PS - I usually manage to write correctly on my iPod (smaller than an iPad).

EldritchCleavage · 19/10/2012 15:24

I think the OP is really trying to tell us she hates Mancunians...

FunnysInLaJardin · 19/10/2012 15:25

stop blaming your ipad, it's bad form. OP you sound a bit deranged to me, maybe take the bus for a while. It's clear that cycling is causing you some distress

PickledFanjoCat · 19/10/2012 15:25

Cycling around in the dark with a baby and no lights? I wouldn't be shouting out about that.

Extraordinarily irresponsible.

jam17 · 19/10/2012 15:26

"Also, if you were on the road with your DS, I was driving my car with DD and you had a wobble/ dodged a pot hole right in front if me, am I expected to swerve my car into oncoming traffic? Slam on my breaks for some car to go into the back if me to protect your and yours while putting me and mine in danger?"

No, just slam into me then and kill me and my DS. All cars should always be prepared to emergency break. Your argument makes no sense. What if a child ran out in front of you, you'd just hit them because your DD getting whiplash is more important that someones life?

You actaully just made me feel sick. Thinking that you feel me and DS deserve to get hit by you, as you don't want to stop for us? I feel disgusted

OP posts:
EldritchCleavage · 19/10/2012 15:27

I'm certainly not happy to move out of the way for cyclists on the pavement. It is that very attitude/expectation that I find annoying. If cyclists want to break the law and go on the pavement, they should politely work around pedestrians, not expect them to get out of the way.

ivykaty44 · 19/10/2012 15:27

Am I supposed to drive 10mph on a main road causing huge tail backs because I can't over take you during rush hour?

what would you do then if you can't overtake her?

Kalisi · 19/10/2012 15:27

Hahahaha! Ok I get it now very good. Nice one OP.

jam17 · 19/10/2012 15:28

busses don't go everywhere actually posters. They're not taxi's. You can't alwways get one going the place you want to. If they were it would of saved me millions of trips to morrissons dragging potatoes in my dead arms

OP posts:
Sirzy · 19/10/2012 15:28

It would seem the OP doesn't care about anyone else as long as her journey is done. It's that lacking of consideration which makes any road user dangerous.

missymoomoomee · 19/10/2012 15:28

Then you are an idiot for doing the journey every day with your child.

Whether you think cycling on the pavement is dangerous or not, its still illegal and you still shouldn't do it. My son had a nasty head injury from some twat cycling on a pavement, it was in a quiet area, the guy on the bike thought it would be ok, it wasn't.

TandB · 19/10/2012 15:28

You are being a bit of a tit, OP.

Well, a lot of a tit, actually.

If you don't feel safe cycling with your child in the legal manner, then don't cycle with your child. You don't have the right to decide the rules don't apply to you because you look cute with your big coat and your baby. Hmm

And if you cycle without lights then you are a complete and utter idiot. I am a careful, attentive driver and I am sick of prats without bikelights appearing out of the darkness and making me swerve.

PickledFanjoCat · 19/10/2012 15:29

I don't think you should be cycling at all jam.

I agree with the poster who suggested the bus.

howelsabout · 19/10/2012 15:30

grrrr cyclists they get me so mad!

why is that you always think you have right of way? please tell me that and why is it that you go straight through a red light they are there for a reason STOP that way you won't get run over i have had so many arguments with cyclists i have lost count a few wees ago one came flying round the corner on a one way street straight over my bonnet and then had the bloody cheek to get up and start shothing at me for knocking him off his bike if my car had seriously hurt him guess who would have been in the police station!

and just yesterday i was driving up a busy main road lots of traffic buses etc..and there were two cyclists riding side by side having a good old chat blocking the road and holding up traffic you are just as bad if not worse than car drivers and think that the highway code doesn't apply to you

ilovemydogandMrObama · 19/10/2012 15:30

op, have you seen these really great laser lights for bikes? They create a virtual cycle lane by beaming out red light. Amazing. They are from the US, so not sure if legal in this country? PM me if you want the link...
