Opening cupboard doors without asking! Really, really fucking rude!

Nothing worse than looking around a house when the owner is there, makes for a very uncomfortable viewing! I am in the living room wanting to go to dh "that yellow and purple paint job will have to bloody go" but the owner is standing there so you end up going "ooh, lovely"! I have never asked for a second viewing if the owners where there on the first viewing, I just assume, rightly or wrongly, that it will be nightmare of a house buy, as if they feel the need to be there stalking our every step at a viewing, then lord only knows what they will be like if we try to buy it!

Cherrypieplum · 18/10/2012 17:12

I'm astounded. I would never dream of making comments even in front of the estate agent.

My DH has had many a kick for grimacing at someone's decor even if they aren't there (and most viewing I've been to they are).

I'va had people book in to view, so I have waited in all day, only to have them stand on the pavement, look at the outside, and walk away. Who does that!!?? There is a photo OF the outside online...look at that and dont book a viewing if you hate it.

Cherrypieplum · 18/10/2012 17:15

Noooo! That's bad!

MeFour · 18/10/2012 17:20

For me it depends If its the first or second viewing.
The key is to either go out (I do to take the dog) or to only stuff crap in free standing cupboards

Cherrypieplum · 18/10/2012 17:25

It's the third viewing this week. I have a small baby, two dogs and work to do. I can't go out every time I'd never be in!

TiAAAAARGHo · 18/10/2012 17:27

I didn't bother with a second viewing. I was just thorough on the first one and was then happy to make an offer.

blackcats73 · 18/10/2012 17:34

You are luck to have viewers!!! No one wants to view my house :-(

Sparklingbrook · 18/10/2012 17:37

Oh blackcats that's Sad How long have you been trying to sell?

Bunbaker · 18/10/2012 17:44

My kitchen cupboards look deeper than they are because the backs are a couple inches in from the wall. So I would look inside cupboards as well. But I would ask first.

EllenParsons · 18/10/2012 18:06

YABU I look in cupboards (if fitted) as storage is really important to me. I wouldn't look in a free standing wardrobe or anything, but fitted cupboards are important fixtures and are part of the house. Wouldn't expect the contents to be anything private or off limits!

Narked · 18/10/2012 18:07

It's the third viewing this week? It's Thursday! Not even one a day! And you do get advanced warning.

As you have dogs, ypu must be used to going out with them every day? Surely you can go for a stroll around the block for 15-20 minutes?

RedBushedT · 18/10/2012 18:17

When I bought this house and looked inside the kitchen cupboards I was amazed to find the previous owner had glued polystyrene tiles inside them all.

Always look inside ALL the fitted cupboards!

HappyTurquoise · 18/10/2012 18:25

YANBU, they should ask. If it's a problem, then they should make another appointment to come back when you have cleared out all the bondage gear in your cupboards. Just kidding! ...Although there was a place we viewed to rent which had wardrobes completely kitted out with all kinds of gimp masks, whips and chains! Never met the owner, we were shown around by a letting agent.)

It's horrible selling when the housing market is like this. We had trouble a couple of moves back, and one viewer was so rude to me I asked her to leave (and her 3 burly brothers she had brought along with her). If someone is that rude when they first meet me, there's no way I'm going to do business with them. I told her I wouldn't sell my house to her if she were the last person on earth, then she got the message and finally left!

Cherrypieplum · 18/10/2012 18:39

Narked its not like I'm sitting around doing nothing! I have been working on a document to further my career and no I can't push a pram and walk two dogs.

Nor was it 20 mins! More like 45!

OP posts:
Cherrypieplum · 18/10/2012 18:43

Another one with manners happy turquoise! :) that's awful too! We bent over backwards for the person who bought our last house. She dictated the day, time and then got artsy when she completed early and expected us gone! She was so aggressive. So glad I have no chain!

OP posts:
Narked · 18/10/2012 18:47

45 minutes? What the hell were they doing in there?

(I assumed you walked the dogs. Mine have pushchair mode - they glue themselves to either side and stare at anyone who even look at it with deep suspicion.)

HappyTurquoise · 18/10/2012 18:49

The one I asked to leave sat on my kitchen counter telling me how crap my kitchen was and how I had to (in effect) buy her another kitchen by reducing the cost of the house (by the amount she wanted to spend on a kitchen.)

villagegossip · 18/10/2012 18:50

AW me too Blackcats - had a few initially then none Sad

I've dropped the asking price quite a bit too - wouldn't mind people nosing around in the cupboards if it gets it sold!

Am thinking I should prob let the agents do the viewings now in future as it is awkward trying to make small talk when people are making cats bum faces at each other bastards

stoatie · 18/10/2012 18:51

I can understand looking in fitted cupboards. I didn't Blush and the three "double " wardrobes in our bedroom turned out to be two "doubles" and one that was shelved (full depth) for one door and very shallow shelves on other side (as built around chimney breast) - it is only just now that we are getting round to getting chimney breast removed so we can get storage sorted

Narked · 18/10/2012 18:51

Polystyrene tiles? Shock WHY???

Another good reason to never meet the buyers HappyT. Estate agents should have to do some work for their commission.

Cherrypieplum · 18/10/2012 18:52

Looking through drawers!

I can walk them and baby until I get a splitter for their leads. The little ones walks under the wheels :/

Happy that is shocking!!

Narked · 18/10/2012 18:55

Have you checked out the sold in your street/area prices on RightMove Village? If it's in line with those ignore the pushy ones.

Narked · 18/10/2012 18:56

Maybe you need a buggy big enough for all of them Grin

Cherrypieplum · 18/10/2012 18:57

Haha! They would LOVE that narked!
