whether it was reasonable to respond in this way.
Made a comment about burning hand whilst roasting sunday lunch.
Received a reply from a "friend" who said "more ouch for unfortunate animal you were roasting"
I felt this was quite rude but not sure if I am being objective as not vegetairian myself.

Dammit! Really need to work on those emoticons!

pinkyredrose · 15/10/2012 09:18

Kalisi , ok good point.

DameFannyGallopsAtaGhost · 15/10/2012 09:19

What ivor said. I'm veggie too, but for factory gaming reasons. I have no issue with people eating free range meat or game, just with people who have no respect for the animals they consume.

DameFannyGallopsAtaGhost · 15/10/2012 09:20

Gaming? farming

theodorakis · 15/10/2012 09:20

I feel quite strongly about horrible supermarket factory eggs and cheap milk. I also hate BOGOF fruits as I have friends who have to absorb this loss on Tesco's behalf. We all have our principles. I do appreciate, however, that at the moment a lot of my friends can't afford best free range organic, life is hard enough without added guilt. I do draw the line at blue and white striped beer and gin though. One has to maintain some standards during the recession.

Kalisi · 15/10/2012 09:20

Sorry, too many posts I know. Op in hindsight there probably was a very high possibility she was joking. If you don't get a shirty message in response to your answer to her then that is probably the case...In which case I would wholeheartedly retract my twat comment!

theodorakis · 15/10/2012 09:22

My mum says since she started keeping chickens she doesn't really feel bad about eating them but she can't work out why. It isn't because she doesn't like them, they all have names and sometimes sleep in the kitchen when the fox is about but she said it's more to do with thinking that they don't really care. Not sure what I am trying to say here, just an interesting conversation I had recently.

AnnieLobeseder · 15/10/2012 09:23

I'm a veggie and I think that was an unnecessary comment. She's your friend so you'd know better than anyone where what tone she meant it in. But no meat-eater likes a preachy vegetarian any more than vegetarians like the endless "go on, you know you want some really" comments from meat-eaters.

VinegarTits · 15/10/2012 09:24

How did she know you were raosting an animal, could have been a vegie roast for all she knew, she sounds rude and up her own arse

Littlesurprise · 15/10/2012 09:31

I'm veggie because meat smells/looks/feels bad to me. Some people don't like sprouts... I don't like meat.

People who won't eat meat because they're stupid fucking hippies or whatever really piss me off.

OP, YANBU to expect people to keep their whiny neuroses to a minimum when interacting with other humans.

LeBFG · 15/10/2012 09:33

I was once a vegetarian and my dad still is. He regularly makes comments like this in a half-joking sort of way. But then all of his friends are meat eaters and I think he's always had a lot of 'go on, try a bit', 'oh, I couldn't live without a bacon sadwich, munch, munch' etc. I have never made comments like that except to my mum, but I wasn't and am not offended by this sort of banter. I also knew loads of organic, save-the-earth sorts of veggies and conversation would regularly include these sorts of comments. I don't know if I'm just not easily offended OP, but I find you are BU, or better to say overeacting, just a little bit.

LeBFG · 15/10/2012 09:35

People who won't eat meat because they're stupid fucking hippies or whatever

Who's this meant to include?

theodorakis · 15/10/2012 09:36

I don't think most people can afford to be hippies anymore.

pigsinmud · 15/10/2012 09:39

Well I am a veggie, but that's irrelevant. I wouldn't say it's rude - sounds more like a joke to me.

BathshebaFicusRobusta · 15/10/2012 09:41

People who won't eat meat because they're stupid fucking hippies or whatever really piss me off.

What a ridiculous comment. Grin

aufaniae · 15/10/2012 09:45

Littlesurprise are you aware how ignorant that comment makes you look?

AlfalfaMum · 15/10/2012 09:48

I don't eat meat myself, but I think it was unfriendly and judgemental.

piratecat · 15/10/2012 09:49

i'm a veggie and it was rude.

toofattorun · 15/10/2012 09:49

I am a vegetarian but I can't stand veggies who start preaching every bloody time someone mentions food.

EACH TO THEIR OWN, PEOPLE, EACH TO THEIR OWN.

DozyDuck · 15/10/2012 09:55

I'm a vegetarian, that was very rude! Possibly something I might say as a joke to very close mates who know I really don't want to preach about it... Leading to another also slightly rude (but jokey) comment right back at me...

But not something I'd write on Facebook.

WorraLiberty · 15/10/2012 09:59

It was rude.

She's a vegetarian you say and not a vegan?

Well if you ever see her post about consuming a dairy product, you can get all 'ouch' about the cruel suffering in the dairy farm industry.

Give it some 'ouch' over the poor cows who are left wailing in distress for days after their calves have been snatched away 24hrs after birth...and sent off to become a nice bit of veal for someone's dinner.

pictish · 15/10/2012 10:00

Are there any other comments?

If not write down below.

It may not have been intended as rude, but it still is.

neolara · 15/10/2012 10:02

I think it's quite funny. And, of course, true. But then I am a vegetarian.

pictish · 15/10/2012 10:03

Yes, the wit is remarkable.
Or not.

eBook · 15/10/2012 10:06

It was rude.
