She died of eclampsia after delivering a baby girl.

Megatron · 15/10/2012 19:16

Oh nooooooo Sad Sad Sad

MamaMary · 15/10/2012 19:16

After giving birth to DD my BP was still very high and wouldn't go down and they were very concerned about me.

I was a bit emotional watching this - I'm pg with DD2 and hoping pre-eclampsia won't kick in again.

Brilliant acting from Sybil and Edith. Mary was dreadfully wooden - she had her usual po-face on during Sybil's death. I thought Edith was brilliant though - and Cora was good too.

Pinot · 15/10/2012 19:41

It was so sad, Megatron. Honestly - I was in floods of tears. Not so much about teh chauffeur husband (meh) but her sisters, and Cora...oh boy. So sad. And when Carson tells the staff

bruffin · 15/10/2012 19:42

Mama just to reassure you
I said above I was in hospital for pre eclampsia for 7 weeks but had no problems at all when Dd was born 2 years later.

agedknees · 15/10/2012 19:43

My dsis fitted in second stage of labour. Luckily it was in the 1980's and both her and her baby survived.

Eclampsia can still kill.

MamaMary · 15/10/2012 20:03

Bruffin, thanks for that.

Northernlurkerisbehindyouboo · 15/10/2012 20:18

Mama - don't worry. They will watch you very carefully and you know what to look out for. If you do start to run in to problems the medical care is there for you and your baby and you will be fine. It's not 1920 now.

dedee · 15/10/2012 20:45

I also had Pre-Eclampsia in the late 90s. My DD was born premature at 7 months and thankfully she is fine. I was monitored closely after the birth as my blood pressure was still very high and was given blood pressure tablet to take for a short while after leaving hospital.

Watching this has made me grateful for being born now and not in the 1920s as we are monitored closely for this.

Scheherezade · 15/10/2012 20:46

It annoys me when people say "oh that would never happen" - if the king of Britain (at that time) could abdicate his throne so he could marry an ordinary divorcee then its not unrealistic to suppose the daughter of an earl might marry low.

But if you are going to base your 'facts' on previous television dramas... Hmm

squoosh · 15/10/2012 20:52

I'm related to someone who married way above her 'station' in life. It was the 1950s and she was promptly disowned by her family and then rejected by her husband's family too.

The happy families portrayal of Branson sitting at the dinner table in black tie, followed by billiards with Cousin Matthew is just silly.

GotMyGoat · 15/10/2012 21:01

But it happened during/just after the war when everyone was feeling a bit confused about their station. It's not unbelievable.

I was nearly crying, coldhearted I am. God I hated that Doctor, and the nurse didn't say a word. Thank god for midwives.

Because there wasn't another 1000 bedrooms for him to choose from.

RawShark · 16/10/2012 00:19

I wish that gold digging heartless cow Mary had died instead.

And look what happened to them - they were shunned. She wasn't 'ordinary' either - she mixed in his circles.

MarthasHarbour · 16/10/2012 09:22

oh leave the OP alone - its only a TV show Hmm

Or crikey? Or is that too jolly hockey sticks?

I wish my "name" was Adversecamber. For some reason it really appeals, possibly because I once worked in traffic engineering Grin
