Not the right place - are my waters leaking?

Sorry for posting here I can't find chat anywhere Blush never posted before either

I'm 37w pregnant today with my 1st DC, just got up for one of my many mid night loo trips and by the time I've got to the toliet there was water running down the slides on my legs (not loads) my first thought was oh god I've wet myself but I checked and there's no way it was wee, my pants were quote wet too and this didn't smell of wee either, MW hasn't gave me any advice about iwhat to do if something like this does happen so thought I would ask the wise ladies of MN. Have I just wet myself or could it be my waters and if it is should I worry?

Thank you Smile and sorry for posting here

Was air kind of sticky? Amniotic fluid isn't like wee.

I would absolutely push to go see them today, if your waters have broken little one can be open to infection if left too long, you need to be checked. If baby is delivered more than 18 hours after then they should be closely observed for a while to check for any signs.

Its very exciting and I hope yours contractions have started and you are on your way!

Softlysoftly · 14/10/2012 08:26

Was it not air!

CookingFunt · 14/10/2012 08:51

I'm so excited for you op. If you are in any doubt go in to your MU.
Please update if anything happens.

YellowWellies · 14/10/2012 10:59

Ohhh Nervous good luck hon! Let's hope your wee one has got the memo about being head down too. Fingers crossed for you.

GhostofMammaTJ · 14/10/2012 11:05

My waters went at 37 weeks, no massive gush but a trickle.

I went to hospital and stayed in for two days before she was born. She was actually born my EMCS 56 hours after. She had an infection in her lungs because of the delay that lead to a life threatening heart condition.

I don't wish to frighten you, as it is rare but you need to be aware.

Tamisara · 14/10/2012 11:17

The biggest danger of waters breaking (including a slow leak) is not so much infection - which as Ghost pointed out is a concern, but cord compression.

If baby is breech, it isn't as bad, but if there is no large part of baby in the pelvis, then there is a risk that the cord may fall into it, then become compressed, which would be a crash emergency.

A problem with a slow leak, is that the fluid may trickle out in such small amounts that it is barely noticeable, a scan may show a slight reduction in amniotic fluid, but, depending on your AFI to start with, they may not think there is a problem. This is a danger, if your baby has a knot in it's cord, or it is wrapped around the neck.

The best advice OP is to monitor movements - carefully. Even after you've been seen in assessment and (hopefull) given the all clear, then still monitor baby's movements from now on - very, very carefully!

Hi nervous - bet your name never felt so apt!

Good luck, Missus!

Mummiesarescary · 14/10/2012 11:43

I had a slow leak at 35 with ds2 which was due to the back waters breaking. With ds3 they broke at 31 weeks. Both times I was checked out at the hospital. They can test if it's amniotic fluid.

I stayed in 2 days after it happened with ds2 then went home for a few days before going into labour.

With ds3 I had to stay in as it was so early and he was transverse so at risk of cord prolapse which it did 6 days after the waters breaking. I never showed any sign of infection either time though.

Good luck op

Iheartpasties · 14/10/2012 11:57

some good advice on here :)

NervousAt20 · 14/10/2012 13:14

Thank you all for your advice, everything seems to have settled back down here, the hospital told me I didn't need to go in as after that first leak I didn't have anymore but said if I'm concerned I should phone back up.

Thank you for the advice with movements ill keep a very close eye today and if anything changes ill phone them back up.

I now have everything packed in this LO hospital bag and its ready to go

I had a bit of goo like this at about 6am on a Friday morning. Apparently it was a 'wet show'. DS was born at 11:53 am on the Saturday morning.

Placemarking in hope of live birth thread :)

Thinking of ya! My waters went when I was asleep. I woke up to find something warm and wet between my legs. My first thought was that I was bleeding and I really got upset and screamed for my partner to come. I wasn't expecting it to be fluid at only 36 weeks. I got up the courage to turn the light on and as soon as I stood up I had liquid rushing down my legs so I ran to the toilet and sat there trying to clean myself up. Fresh knickers and maternity pad installed, I stood up... and gushed everywhere all over again. Pad had NO chance.

The weird thing is when I did eventually give birth I gushed loads more fluid when she came out... so either there's a LOT of fluid or it keeps being created all the time.

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 14/10/2012 19:59

I'm another one that has a sorry tale about waters going and it not being noticed. Don't want to scare you OP......I was convinced my waters went at 38 weeks. The hopsital said nothing had happened and sent me home. My gorgeous DD was eventually born at 41 weeks, but she was very sick with a life threatening infection (among other issues). The midwives had tried to break my waters when I was in labour, surprise surprise there was nothing to break. There was fluid, all up behind DD (who was acting like a plug) but there clearly had been a leak and therefore an infection had set in.

After a long time in NICU, I got my DD home who is, in the main, healthy. I would insist on being checked over thoroughly as I wouldn't wish our experience on anyone.

Good luck!

Mummiesarescary · 14/10/2012 21:07

boomerwang it does keep regenerating all the time, also after the fourth month of pg the babies kidneys start working and they drink it and also start to urinate increasing the amount of amniotic fluid

cheekydevil · 14/10/2012 22:20

Oooo exciting :)

aufaniae · 14/10/2012 22:30

When my waters went it felt just like I'd weed myself. Nothing major, just some water coming out. No gushing for me.

I would also insist on getting checked out. A friend of mine had her waters break without realising at all. Her baby was very sick indeed by the time he came out, at least a couple of weeks later.

BlueSkySinking · 14/10/2012 23:46

You can look like you are leaking if you have thrush. This happened to me at the end of my pregnancy. They quickly picked it up though.

BlueSkySinking · 14/10/2012 23:48

It could also be a hind water leak. This also happened to me. Was a small amount of slightly pink water.

StuntNun · 15/10/2012 06:17

Eddy did you pull them up on it? What happened afterwards? What an awful experience for you and your child to go through.

Boomerwang · 15/10/2012 09:24

Good luck for tomorrow Nervous

FutTheShuckUp · 15/10/2012 09:45

My waters went at 36 weeks too. Was a huge gush though as soon as I stepped out of bed. Was a shame as i'd planned to go to Tescos that morning and may have ended up with freebies Angry
