to "libberate" buttons from shop stock?

More of a WIBU really. The shop that I buy clothes from has stopped providing spare buttons on them. So if I buy a top and the button cones off (frequently - things aren't made as good qual as they used to be) I'm left with an unwearable top. So WIBU to take my kwikunpick in the changing room and "borrow" a spare? Can't think if any other way of dealing with this.

Oh the irony, the OP needs to steal a button because the top she bought is missing a buttton.

I think another "liberator" has beaten you to it Grin

Yes the buttons are covered in the same fabric. So little bit camouflaged. Which is why replacement buttons need to be the actual buttons.

They don't have to be covered buttons.

MadgeHarvey · 12/10/2012 13:41

I think we've slipped into Loonsville here. You sound even more unbuttoned than your new/worn/whatever top.

Indith · 12/10/2012 13:41

You can still take it back even worn. Even if the button fell off on first wearing or first washing you could take it back as unfit for purpose. I've taken jumpers back that have shrunk on first wash even though I followed guidelines. Jeans back that worse through the knees in 3 months because clothing should last longer than that and various other things.

Maybe the button was missing from the top you bought because someone else had your idea & liberated it?

JodieHarsh · 12/10/2012 13:42

My favourite wind up EVER!

Thanks
EldritchCleavage · 12/10/2012 13:44

Who else has a button box? I love mine.

valiumredhead · 12/10/2012 13:47

I was left my Grandmother's button box when she died Eldritch :)

GreenEyesAndHam · 12/10/2012 13:47

If you wore it once without the button and it was ok, why can't you wear it again without the button?

Not saying you should have to btw

ballstoit · 12/10/2012 13:48

YABU. Just take the top back.

Clearly it wasn't fit for the purpose that it was sold (button fell off after one wash), so Evans can either replace, refund or repair it for you. Or steal buttons and get a criminal conviction...whichever makes most sense to you.

WelshMaenad · 12/10/2012 13:52

I've got my grandma's button box too! It's a huge 4l ice cream tub, full of them. I like to sit and run my fingers through them. They smell of childhood.

LauraShigihara · 12/10/2012 13:59

I've got a huge button box

Actually, it's more of a tin.

EldritchCleavage · 12/10/2012 13:59

Mine has some spectacular Eighties gold numbers I've saved. Completely blingtastic.

MTBMummy · 12/10/2012 14:31

DD and I still play with my grans button chest (it's huge) and my mum and I have both added to it over the years.

I swear my DD has picked up slight OCD tendancies from sorting buttons out

PumpkInDublic · 12/10/2012 14:37

Eldritch I envy your 80's blingtastic buttons! Despite sewing and knitting I have no button box, I buy and then use them. I may start hoarding....

DeWe · 12/10/2012 14:39

But I expect the button was missing when you bought it because someone had lost a button and "liberated it" from your top. Grin

ScarahStratton · 12/10/2012 14:41

Ridiculous wind up.

BigBroomstickBIWI · 12/10/2012 14:43

Another first time poster ... Hmm

LauraShigihara · 12/10/2012 14:49

Yes it's a wind up but it's nice to talk buttons Grin
