To be furious more people to care about Badgers than keeping Children safe?

Sick of my consistent moaning about how soft the law was on pedophiles I set up an online petition. I have 30+ friends on my fb (most parents) and was confident it would snowball and grow, however its like getting blood out a stone trying to get them to sign and share it. When I look on epetitions though a petition to save badgers is consistenly gaining signatures. I agree in animal rights, but not as a priority over children. Any advice as to boost the petition would be great xx

Because your petition is little more than a Daily Mail type rant. It doesn't have any facts, or any real reason to exist. There is no point to it.

The Badger one, on the other hand, was thought out and reasoned.

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 08/10/2012 16:49

I have looked at your petition and I wouldn't sign it.

Of course I want to protect children from abuse.

But the petition is preposterous and poorly written rubbish. Sorry.

Whitecherry · 08/10/2012 16:51

Errors aside..... How do you define a paedophile? As someone has already asked

Each offence is an individual one. You can't have a blanket imprison for life for a whole group of people!

SadPanda · 08/10/2012 16:52

To those who think e-petitions don't acheive anything, they do if they get over 100,000. They then get discussed in Parliament. The full disclosure of all the Hillsborough documents was a result of an e-petition.

pumpkinsweetie · 08/10/2012 16:53

There are e-petitions on everything at the moment, so far i have never heard of them achieving anything unfortunetly!

I believe paedophiles/murderers/rapists should all be locked up indefinetly but because of human rights and lenient sentencing laws it is never going to happen.

I also think animal cruelty should bring with it a custodial sentence but it very rarely does.

It depends how much these petitions are advertised/liked/tweeted as to how many people sign and due to the badger cull being spread over the media & internet its no wonder people are signed.

I just think the law in this country stinks especially for children and animals-the innocent of societySad
People get more 'time' inside for money related matters and thats what gets on my tits.

All this country cares about is money, could moan forever but got to finish painting me room!

GobblersKnob · 08/10/2012 16:56

I love badgers.

CajaDeLaMemoria · 08/10/2012 16:56

As a fledgeling criminologist, your petition makes no sense. You can't just petition for something - you need to find facts, alternatives, and understand what is possible and what isn't.

The badger cull is more factual, and presents an alternative. It's well-researched, and it also WILL be considered. The Government have acknowledged the petition and will take it into account. There is a real point to signing it.

Your petition won't change the law. It won't start a debate that does change the law. It presents no answers. It's basically a rant - and although you clearly mean well, and a new solution is needed, that is why there are more signatures on the badger petition. Not because people care more for badgers than children.

BigFatLegsInWoolyTIghts · 08/10/2012 16:57

I am afraid I agree about the spelling. I wouldn't sign that either.

Jins · 08/10/2012 16:58

Sorry OP it's not one that I'd sign either. :(

It really just reads like a rant. The basic problem is that they have already offended when they are sentenced. Do you have any idea of how many convicted paedophiles reoffend?

catgirl1976 · 08/10/2012 17:00

Your petition is full of spelling mistakes, badly thought out and ill written.

I haven't seen the badger one but maybe it is better written.

I think this is your problem. As everyone else has said.

SadPanda · 08/10/2012 17:04

I've just looked it up. According to the Ministry of Justice the reconviction rate of peadophiles for another sexual crime against a child is 3%.

LDNmummy · 08/10/2012 17:15

"I might start an epetition to stop stupid people starting epetitions. Can everyone pleeeeeeeeassse sign it?"

How childish.

LFCisTarkaDahl · 08/10/2012 17:20

I don't want sex offenders locked up for life - that's stupid and makes no sense legally.

I've already signed the badger one.

Yes, I do care about badgers more than some ill thought out, illegal rubbish.

Hth

pumpkinsweetie · 08/10/2012 17:24

Why on earth not LFC, so you really want paedophiles walking amongst our children?

Narked · 08/10/2012 17:24

Does anyone have a link to the badger one? I'd like to sign it.

TandB · 08/10/2012 17:25

Perhaps the people in question know there is absolutely no point signing up to some random little rant that demands a major overhaul of the entire sentencing system.

Or perhaps they have no idea what a pediophile is.

Seriously, OP, I don't usually nitpick about spelling/grammar mistakes, but you can't have a hissy fit about people declining to sign a badly thought-out, badly written petition that doesn't even have the key word spelled correctly.

KenLeeeeeee · 08/10/2012 17:25

Your petition is badly worded, badly spelt, doesn't give an 'answer', is inaccurate but more importantly - CANNOT become law.

The Anti-Badger Cull petition was simple - here are the facts, stop the cull based on these facts, here is an alternative answer. People could then support it or not - most people could see the science, could see the solution and supported it for that reason.

Your petition is not based on fact, doesn't actually say what you want, doesn't give an alternative and doesn't give a solution. People won't sign something like that, sorry.

^ That.

SadPanda · 08/10/2012 17:25

Here's the badger one

Whitecherry · 08/10/2012 17:27

I will sign the badger one

Narked · 08/10/2012 17:27

'Why on earth not LFC, so you really want paedophiles walking amongst our children?'

Yes. Because if she doesn't agree with the 'petition' then she must want that.

Narked · 08/10/2012 17:31

Thank you. The badger one has passed the 100,00 mark and is still going!

Narked · 08/10/2012 17:31

100,000

Dogsmom · 08/10/2012 17:32

Must admit I only give to animal charities and sign animal petitions, it's not that I don't care about other causes, I do, I just feel most passionately about animal causes.

I'm not alone, my best friend works at Waitrose and is in charge of the charity side of things, every week they have 3 charities that you can 'vote for' by placing a little green token in the box of the one you want to receive a cash donation and 9 times out of 10 an animal charity will win by a large majority.

Now that really is depressing!!!!!!!!!!

RubyFakeNails · 08/10/2012 17:37

I've already signed the badger one.

Your e-petition is poorly written, and appears to be demanding (in a helpfully unspecific way) something that cannot be made the law.

However, even if it read well and lacked the current errors, I wouldn't sign it, I don't agree with locking people, including sex offenders up for life.
