WTF does it mean?

It just elicits the response "My bad what"?

That includes you Dermot on the X Factor last night.

YANBU! It just doesn't make sense. Angry

ithinkimightbegoingmad · 08/10/2012 13:48

you are old and uncool, invisible and you dont matter Grin

alienreflux · 08/10/2012 13:48

YANBU!!!! I fucking hate it!! American shite!!

ithinkimightbegoingmad · 08/10/2012 13:48

it just means 'my mistake' Hmm

MooncupGoddess · 08/10/2012 13:50

Oh me too. Especially as people always say it in a slightly smug way. 'Sorry, I got that wrong' would be much preferable in all cases.

BeatTheClock · 08/10/2012 13:50

Yanbu and whilst we're at it where did 'back in the day' come from cos I keep hearing that all over the place too?Confused

MardyBra · 08/10/2012 13:51

"you are old and uncool, invisible and you dont matter".

Yep, got it in one.

I was complaining yesterday about Adele's new Skyfall song and how she can't hit the notes bang on (instead she swoops up from underneath). DD said I was uncool and that's how modern singers sing these days. No. That's how lazy singers sing - and have done for decades.

Ugh.

Tis horrid.

And rediculous.

I've just spotted the word gotten somewhere. Is that even a word?

And I hope the "off of" I saw earlier was ironjc.

FunnysInLaJardin · 08/10/2012 13:52

YANBU. It's an awful phrase plus it has NO meaning

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 08/10/2012 13:52

It's a bit like when people say it's well sick.......what?? is it good then, is it bad? I have no bloody idea Confused

Treblesallround · 08/10/2012 13:52

YABU to cringe. The correct response is to stab them.

Dillydollydaydream · 08/10/2012 13:52

My husband said that the other day Hmm
It just sounds ridiculous!

MardyBra · 08/10/2012 13:52

Ah Chaos. Gotten was British English originally, and the Americans kept it, while we dropped it. And now it's being reintroduced.

OP posts:
Treblesallround · 08/10/2012 13:53

MrsKeithRichards · 08/10/2012 13:57

Whoops, my bad!

FolkGhoul · 08/10/2012 14:02

Yes, but gotten isn't being 'reintroduced' as a means of reclaiming one of our own, it's being adopted by all the kids who watch too much American TV.

DappyHays · 08/10/2012 14:04

YANBU

MardyBra · 08/10/2012 14:07

I agree Folk.

Isn't it a translation of a phrase in Spanish that means 'it's my fault' - or something? (disclaimer: I know no Spanish Smile)

mrsminerva · 08/10/2012 19:14

I like it, but then I like watching Dexter where I first heard it.
