WTF does it mean?

It just elicits the response "My bad what"?

That includes you Dermot on the X Factor last night.

Yanbu!

I cringe when I hear people saying that...especially adults!

AtAmber · 08/10/2012 20:17

Someone said it to me today during a 3 way phone call with a Hungarian interpreter. It made me laugh but normally I hate it.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 08/10/2012 20:38

I like 'my bad'. It makes me think of Buffy.

My mum can't stand it though. Along with 'I'm good' as a response to 'how are you'.

YouMayLogOut · 08/10/2012 20:41

YANBU

hermioneweasley · 08/10/2012 20:47

I have started using it since I began working with a young 'un. I like learning new slang, it makes me feel in touch. But I also know how to use apostrophes.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 08/10/2012 20:47

Doesnt bother me so much.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 08/10/2012 20:47

oh my days annoys me though.

Babyrabbits · 08/10/2012 20:58

Yanbu its stupid

Pochemuchka · 08/10/2012 21:03

YANBU!

It's stupid and irritating.

wildfig · 08/10/2012 21:04

I'm not wild about 'I'm good' in response to 'how are you?', either. I'm asking about your health, not your moral compass. [pedant face]

MooncupGoddess · 08/10/2012 22:05

Oh yes wildfig, I am always tempted to reply, 'No, you are full of sin.'

Devora · 08/10/2012 22:18

I don't mind so much when the under 20s say it - it's surely part of their job description to find creative new ways of destroying the Queen's English, and you have to admit it they're getting better and better at it. I do cringe when I hear the young Phoebes and Jakeys round here talking as though they're from Kingston, Jamaica rather than Kingston, Surrey, but I can live with it.

Adults, though, have no excuse. String em up.

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 08/10/2012 22:40

It's very Zooey Desc Desh, that one from New Girl.
And used frequently in most other snippy, snarky cheapo, one liner American sitcoms.

I like that Zooey one though, can't help it.

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 08/10/2012 22:43

Oh and you are NBU. Unfortunately I've heard it most from 30-something men who watch more T4 than is right or proper. It certainly does induce a cringe or two from me then.

monsterchild · 08/10/2012 22:48

I thought it was German for claiming one's bath.

Its a hell of a lot better than "do/did me a solid" as in a favor. I always think that one sounds like someone just pooped on you.

freddiefrog · 08/10/2012 22:49

YANBU

My eldest daughter says it and it makes the red mist descend

Shoshe · 08/10/2012 22:53

Arrrgggghhhhh I hate it. DH started saying it. Ffs he's 43 not 13!

Londonista1975 · 08/10/2012 22:56

I can tolerate it when I hear kids saying it but adults who think they're 'with it' or something by saying it can go to hell. I even cringe if I hear it in a film or TV show.

MrsBovary · 08/10/2012 23:01

I've been, irrationally, irritated by people saying mea culpa this week Hmm

No longer. "My bad" is far worse. Yanbu.

Jinsei · 08/10/2012 23:03

Yanbu, it's a stupid phrase that makes no sense.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 08/10/2012 23:06

Fair do's.

WTAF. This makes my skin crawl. It doesnt even make fucking sense.

TuftyFinch · 08/10/2012 23:09

I like it in an ironic, ''i know it grates with you but it makes me laugh way'. However, there are phrases that If someone of my awuaintave used then my opinion of them would falter.

AngryFeet · 08/10/2012 23:19

I used to think it was "my bed" which makes even less sense...

ike1 · 08/10/2012 23:26

That's like well 'dope'...

ike1 · 08/10/2012 23:28

I thought 'my bad' was short for my 'bad ass ....'something or other
