It's a shame to let a few facts get in the way of a spot of demonising, but let's give it a go.
3.6 million children live in poverty in the UK.
58% of them live in a household where at least one adult works.
That means choices like heating or eating.
One child in 7 doesn't have a hot meal each day.
That may not seem to bad for some of you, but that coupled with no heating and inadequate clothing can have a huge impact on physical health.
Before anyone charges in with 'that's not real poverty like in Africa/India', have a look at this figure:
Infant mortality is 10% higher for infants in the lower social group than average.
This is in the UK, the 7th richest country in the world.
It is estimated that 3.6 million will become 4 million very soon.
For those who will still harp on about it's not real poverty, are you really willing to let it get to the stage where children are homeless and live in slums before you are willing to help?
Reactionary policies always cost more than pro-active ones, because by then serious damage is done.
