It is a total fact, what are your sources sunshine? Nobody has died from weed wheras people have died from diseases directly caused by smoking tobacco.

Alot of people have died from smoking weed. It causes mental health problems , can bring on cancers , stop organs from working properly and more..
Look on any drug information site / leaflet / book
Talk to any scientist

Why is it an illegel drug if so harmless??
Because there is proof it is dangerous it effects people's mind and health.

Anyway like I said what anyone does is upto them but I do feel there is alot of misunderstanding about the drug and so many more mothers are thinking it is ok to smoke it.
I do not want to keep having discussions about it when I am just saying the same things over and over.
:)

Thc the active component in weed is in lower concentrations in blood compared to breast milk, as it's concentrations are higher in fat than in water. A foetus would get less thc than a breast feeding baby.
Tell your friend not to puff if she plans breast feeding.

I'd say drinking alcohol in pregnancy could be more harmful.

Sunshine104, sorry but there have been no reported deaths directly related to smoking weed-fact. I don't know where you got that info and also I have researched this a lot

I think the research is pretty sketchy. There has never been a proper, controlled study. But it doesn't seem like a very good idea and it would concern me. But then I'm also concerned about US states that make it criminal for women to do anything that might harm their unborn child. Some people here sound like they would support that.

Oh, do get a grip!

I've been smoking for ever and have had none of those problems. Nor has anyone I know.

Why is it an illegel drug if so harmless??

Because pharmaceutical companies are making billions from prescriptions for AD and sleeping pills etc.

I'd rather put a natural substance into my body than chemicals, thanks....

Having said that, I do think one has a responsibility to be as healthy as possible during pregnancy.

Like I said it is upto you what you do .

Its her choice, but I would struggle to remain friends with that person unless they were in some kind of crisis and needed help. If they just didn't give a shit, I would struggle... I don't criticise casual cannabis smoking, its got its dangers but haven't most things?

I would find it hard not to criticise someone putting their child at risk. I'm a smoker, gave up whilst pregnant, I had another child, gave up AGAIN, started again, I know its tough if you are in the habit of having any form of chemical everyday (she has a habit, she's not casual if its everyday) but if you don't give a shit its tragic. Whatever the reason I would sturggle to not at least say something and keep saying it and if that meant the friendship drifted, so be it.

Equally I would find it difficult not to want to know why she was doing it and see if I could support her in any way, so maybe I wouldn't 'break' friends with the person rather it would put serious strain on things.

Tricky one.

Some friends of mine smoke dope and take coke with their children in the house. Personally unless it's affecting the kids I can't see the problem. They are fairly normal people and it's an ocasional treat.

theinets - For real??

Im getting the feeling that most the people posting on this thread now are not from the UK ??

In the uk when reported they would not be deemed safe parents and would most likely lose their children.
That is wrong!

Smoking weed causes plenty of people to have mh problems, spend a few days on a duel diagnosis ward and see the affects it can have.

Also it's not a natural substance, have you seen some of the shit that is sprayed on it?

I wouldn't be taking opinions from people who believe cannabis is illegal because of health reasons. How ridiculous.

Cannabis IS safer than tobacco. Lots of people smoke cannabis WITHOUT tobacco.

I was once horrified when a friend, who is a qualified GP was smoking weed in pregnancy. But she showed me lots of research to say that it is safe. I have researched it, and I've actually come full circle. It's certainly safer than alcohol, which I had the odd glass of in pregnancy myself.

Someone said Cannabis causes mental health problems, cancer and stops organs from working and more... There is also overwhelming evidence that it cures mental health problems, cancer, and faulty organs and more.

I would judge someone who had done no research whatsoever, and was hoping for the best, or those still smoking tobacco. But actually, 'because it's illegal' just doesn't answer this discussion.

You cannot argue with facts, With people who have lost a loved one because he was that dependent on weed he would get himself so "high" of it and started to become aggresive, paranoid and rigged with depression that young man ended up killing himself by jumping of a bridge in the middle of the night.
Anyone can do what they want you just cannot sit here on a site that millions of young people can see and state that weed is safe. You just can't.

My son is paying for his birth mother smoking weed during pregnancy.
So are we.
It's all fine until it isn't.
Who cares if it's safer than drinking. A glass of wine is nothing to get excited about but a bottle a day would be.
Just as daily ingestion of skunk would be.

How hard is it to leave off the draw for a few months ffs.

Cannabis is illegal , smoking it is illegal , having around young children an illegal drug will cause people to question your ability to look after your children FACT.
I do it everyday, I have seen so many families torn apart by the use of it.

The Op needs to help and advice their friend thats all :)

"I've been smoking for ever and have had none of those problems. Nor has anyone I know." Great argument. I hang out near cars all the time. I've never been hit by a car. Nor has anyone I know. . I think I might go hang around in the road more as by this logic it must be a completely harmless past-time.

I'd also just point out that if she smokes daily now she will likely smoke daily once baby is here, which isn't great either. She probably should get help.

I shall just leave this medical study on the effects of Marijuana during pregnancy right here and run like hell.

"Although no positive or negative neurobehavioral effects of prenatal exposure were found at 3 days of life using the Brazelton examination, there were significant differences between the exposed and nonexposed neonates at the end of the first month. Comparing the two groups, the neonates of mothers who used marijuana showed better physiological stability at 1 month and required less examiner facilitation to reach an organized state and become available for social stimulation. "

The sad thing is that the lack of research is mostly due to the fact that pregnant women who do smoke weed are reluctant to admit it. Presumeably this is because they are worried about being judged. Many of the posts on this thread demonstrate exactly why they have cause to fear it.

sunshine401 wakey wakey love, read some of the other drug threads that seem to be cropping up lately. the UK takes drugs! profesional, well balanced individuals who use recreational drugs responsibly and in moderation. Alcohol is legal, so is tobacco ffs, two of the most harmful and addictive drugs on the planet. Being legal does not mean 'safe' and illegal does not necessarily mean 'dangerous'.
