Would you leave a sleeping baby in car in quiet residential street while you popped into friends house for 5 mins?

And didn't keep car within your sight from house?
Personally I would not do this. But have friend who did.
Just wondered what general opinion was.

No. Not even if car was in sight. Not even on my own drive.

perfumedlife · 30/09/2012 19:57

God no, never ever.

GlitterySkulls · 30/09/2012 19:58

i wouldn't- anything could happen.

CMOTDibbler · 30/09/2012 19:58

No, def not, and I'm not a big worrier

Shakey1500 · 30/09/2012 19:58

Never.

Rubirosa · 30/09/2012 19:58

I would (and have) if car is in sight/on drive, but otherwise wouldn't. But if it was just 5 minutes then I wouldn't judge someone who did.

mumtocuddlebundle · 30/09/2012 19:59

Great. Glad to hear it's not just me being over cautious.

SauvignonBlanche · 30/09/2012 19:59

I wouldn't.

Pooka · 30/09/2012 20:00

No.

Might have if had drive and could sit in sight of car.

Sirzy · 30/09/2012 20:00

No way

Pochemuchka · 30/09/2012 20:00

No. Definitely not.

akaemmafrost · 30/09/2012 20:00

No way.

IneedAsockamnesty · 30/09/2012 20:00

i wouldnt and if i had a friend who did this whilst popping into mine i would talk to them on the doorstep

WelshMaenad · 30/09/2012 20:01

Yes. And have.

NamesKerry · 30/09/2012 20:01

No definitely not. It makes me shudder at the thought.

PowderMum · 30/09/2012 20:01

In front of house or driveway yes. In car whilst you cross road and go into school to collect other kids NO. Had to dismiss a nanny for this one.

mumtocuddlebundle · 30/09/2012 20:02

It was on my street- not on drive. And we were well out of site of car once in house.
I don't like to judge. Everyone has there own opinions on these things etc. I did kind of wonder if I should have said something. But didn't want to sound critical of her.
I would never do this myself. If I arrive home and don't want to wake baby I sit and listen to radio in car.

I suppose this depends on where you live, i wouldn't, regardless.

My BIL had his windscreen smashed by kids messing about, two nights ago and there are fireworks being set off allready in my area, so you couldn't take the risk.

Not on the road and out of sight, no.

In front of a shop/nursery, or forecourt of a petrol station with car in sight, yes.

Levantine · 30/09/2012 20:04

Yes if car in sight at all times NO WAY otherwise

LST · 30/09/2012 20:04

If DS is asleep in the car and I go to my mums. I park on the drive and leave him.

He's always in full view.

Gooseysgirl · 30/09/2012 20:04

Absolutely not

tittytittyhanghang · 30/09/2012 20:05

prepared to be flamed but yh, i probably would if I knew i was just popping in for a few minutes, and the baby was sleeping, although it depends on age of baby. When ds was in his first car seat it just unclipped out so easy enough to get in and out so would just bring him in and out with the car seat. Once he was slightly older though (about 8 months) and the car seat was fitted into the car, id probably would have been loathed to wake him up for a few minutes.

greensnail · 30/09/2012 20:05

Possibly, would depend on the street. I have left dd2 in the car while I pop into nursery to collect dd1. Not much different than popping into a house in the same street for 5 minutes. I'm confident doing it as I know the street well (i live in the same road) and there are plenty of other parents around who know us and know if dd2 isn't with me then she's likely to be asleep in the car.

I still go as fast as I can to get back to her as I know it's a risk, but feels like a small risk to me.
