To want a breast enlargement

Beaverfeaver · 26/09/2012 21:23

I have wanted breast surgery since I was 16.

I am a size 12/14 and wear a 36B.

I know it will cost a lot of money but think it might be worth it for how long I have felt this way.

However, sometimes I think I'd rather spend £4k on gorgeous clothes and decent bras that might help me feel better about mush instead.

Also DH has always been dead against it.
He says how much he loves them as they are and that it wouldn't be the same if they were fake.

Should I just be happy with what I have been given?

Short and flat here. I barely make an AA cup. Seriously. (Am a size 10).

Sometimes it would be nice to have a more impressive figure. But they're small and lovely and make life easier. I can often go without a bra, bf with dc in a sling was an absolute doddle and most clothes look OK or nice on me (some dresses don't fit well, that is a downside).

Plus, it's pretty major surgery and taxing on the body, plus maintenance issues as above.

I'd spend the money, if you have it, on nice bras, clothes etc. Your shape is one of the myriad variety among women. Be proud of it and don't try and make it more uniform. Smile

SorrelForbes · 26/09/2012 22:11

Oh yes, avoid the M&S sales assistants/fitters. They know not what they do...

maybenow · 26/09/2012 22:16

I'm only a DD or E and I wish I were smaller - I can't wear strappy vest tops as I need a really 'full cup' on my bras or I sort of fall out when I lean forward. I can't wear shirts because the buttons gape or if i go bigger they're huge around my stomach. I also can't wear most v-neck or wrap dresses without either a vest top underneath or my bra showing in the middle. In fact, dresses are an issue full stop and always baggy round my middle if they fit my boobs.

Don't do it. Honestly. I'd kill to be able to wear a vest top... Sad

KateSpade · 26/09/2012 22:17

The fitters may be terrible, but in my opinion their bra's are amazing.

Except for the 2 cup sizes bigger, made me look pointy.

SorrelForbes · 26/09/2012 22:20

Different makes for different shapes and all that Grin. Their bras never seem to sit right on me but some of their range are very pretty.

tittytittyhanghang · 26/09/2012 22:26

funny that kate, i hate all their bras but live by their 2 sizes bigger, thats all i wear lol

KateSpade · 26/09/2012 22:46

Really? once i put my T-shirt on, it didn't look nice, but some of them are amazing!

showtunesgirl · 26/09/2012 23:33

OP, I can highly recommend: www.thefittingstudio.co.uk/index.php if you're anywhere near London.

They went into such detail with me such as letting me know what kind of bras would fit me better. Eg, I can't do t-shirt bras as my boobs are more spaced apart and the underwire would always dig so I should look for plunge bras.

showtunesgirl · 26/09/2012 23:34

And I've never found any M & S bra to fit me right either.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 26/09/2012 23:45

You could go to Rigby and Peller or somewhere similar and have a bra hand made to measure to fit you perfectly for much less than the cost of a boob job! And think how much less painful it would be.
I can't see how you can be a 36 tbh, I weigh well over 20 stone and am positively spherical and get into a 38 band size!
I bet a well fitted bra would make a massive difference.

KateSpade · 27/09/2012 20:36

Im a 36 (i think Confused) and I'm a size 12, i just have a huge back.

SorrelForbes · 27/09/2012 20:50

Kate I know there's more to the bra fitting thing than just measurements but can I just ask, what is your (tight) under bust measurement? I'm a size 10/12 and fairly stocky and I measure 30.5.

Just a hunch that you may need a smaller back size but ready to stand corrected Grin

HappySeven · 27/09/2012 20:58

I used to workin a bra factory and we were told to measure under your bust and add 4-5 to get an even number and that is your 32, 34 etc. it sounds like you should try a 34. It can feel weird when you're not used to it. Why not go somewhere helpful and get fitted? A good shop will have staff who help you find a size and style that suits you.

I can see the temptation for implants but as others say they are high maintenance and it's probably worth trying a good bra first!

PeshwariNaan · 27/09/2012 21:00

36B is great! wow!

Also, don't you have to get implants replaced every 10 years? It's not like it's a one-off...

I say listen to your DP.

SorrelForbes · 27/09/2012 21:01

The whole adding 4/5 inches has been totally discredited now (even though many brands have yet to update their web site guides!). Debenhams, JL etc no longer add inches but unfortunately M&S do Sad

Liketochat1 · 27/09/2012 21:04

I had a tummy tuck because my stomach muscles were badly torn in my last pregnancy. It hurt so much and took me ages to recover. I've lost so much energy since and feel different. I wouldn't have any surgery unless I had to. Health is more important than anything.

piratecat · 27/09/2012 21:16

ex Rigby and Peller worker here.

hi.

you don't have to have made to measure in R+P, they sell loads of ready made bras from many different manufactureres. They used to have the monopoly on sizes, but there are so many bras now that come in lots od back and cup sizes.

Cheapest one we did was Fantasie bras. You do sound like a 32d to me, and it will amaze you to be in something better fitting. Really, just go to Debenhams, and pick up some 32 ones, see how they feel around the rib cage, and then work on what cup you are. We didn't sell them but i recently took a friend to Debenhams and she got a Triumph, bra which was really good. saying that cos she has one breast bigger than the other. she got one that was slightly padded, about £25 i think.

joanofarchitrave · 27/09/2012 21:18

Everybody's in different proportions, so it is possible you are the size you say (infuriatingly I come out as a 40B on the right and a 40C on the left wherever I get measured! I've also got quite 'far-apart' boobs.) However, it's well worth spending some time on at least trying on a variety of underwear as the difference they can make is absolutely incredible.

Having said that, the single thing that did most for my body confidence was a pack of pictures a sex therapist once showed me. They were just pictures of naked bodies. Normal naked bodies. They were taken of medical students in 1972 or thereabouts. I walked out of there feeling just so much more relaxed about my own self. I would never have said something so simple could realign my thinking.

HiggsBoson · 27/09/2012 21:41

I was in M&S earlier. I'm in a 32DD atm, still bf a 2.8 year old Shock, so the boobs have been in a state of flux over the past 3 years Grin

Anyhoo...I've shrivelled somewhat lately, so was browsing the bras. Tried 32DS & DDs, but the backs did seem big - straight onto the tightest clasp and still a bit too comfy iyswim. I'm 30 under & 36 over (size 10) - assistant told me to try going down a cup size to 32C - what do you ladies think? I'm not so sure.

Woman next to me almost exactly the same size/build as me was about to try on a load of 36 Bs Hmm

Apologies for the hijack op. 36B sounds great to me, although I agree with other posters that 32D sounds a bit more like it!

MadameCupcake · 27/09/2012 21:47

I have had a boob job, I just felt they were not as 'full' as before having the DCs.

I always thought I was a 36c before but after the op (I only had smallish implants) but now measure a 34G (sounds massive but really looks more like a DD - they look different than natural G cups). The op cannot change your back size so I was just measured wrong.

You definitely sound more like a 34 back - go to John Lewis to be measured - they are pretty good.

I must say it is probably the best £4k I have ever spent - I can wear all sorts of things I couldn't wear before and feel fab - I took out an 15 month interest free credit card to pay for it and also earnt loyalty points from the credit card too. I went to Spire as was not going to take ANY chances - they were amazing.

Feel free to inbox me.

Mayisout · 27/09/2012 22:00

Well, try a well fitted bra first.
I wore 36/38 B or C for years then got fitted at Bravissimo (have to book an appt where I go) and was really a 34E. The bra was a Freya (think they've stopped that one now) but it lifted and held forward so my boobs were more like a young pert person than the older woman's bosom I'd had before.

(I would love smaller boobs by the way as mine are too heavy)

MadameCupcake · 27/09/2012 22:03

Sorry - I didn't mean to sound blase about having an op - I absolutely agree with all the others about trying everything first!

SorrelForbes · 27/09/2012 22:13

Higgs With your measurement, I would start with a 30E and take it from there.

That M&S fitter was telling you complete rubbish! If the back (a 32) felt to big then changing the cup will not help at all. It sounds like you need a 30 back and as I know from my own experience, M&S do very little in a 30 with a cup bigger than a D!

SorrelForbes · 27/09/2012 22:16

Madame Hmmm, I'm doubtful that someone measuring 30/31 underneath their bust would fit a 34 back bra. Well, they would if they paired it with the completely wrong cup of course Wink.

But yes, I totally, agree, it's best to go and have a proper fitting.

SorrelForbes · 27/09/2012 22:43

Ahem 'too' Blush
