To be astounded at the brass neck of Kelvin McKenzie?

And to wonder whether if I look up 'chutzpah' in the dictionary, there'd be a picture of his smug face as the definition?

I had to double check to see that it wasn't April 1st when I read this article.

Ex-Sun editor Kelvin MacKenzie wants South Yorkshire Police to apologise for the "vilification" he received in the wake of the Hillsborough tragedy.

And he wants 'recompense' ie compensation as well

Agree with every other post here. He is the lowest of the low and deserves every single smidgen of vilification he got. He should hang his head in shame.

Such a pity he is too arrogant to consider that he is in any way culpable

BananaGio · 27/09/2012 13:07

absolute wanker of a man. As if he hasn't done enough to contribute towards the suffering of the families and the survivors he has to redefine himself as a victim!!Have no words except my first MN cunt.

kittyandthegoldenfontanelles · 27/09/2012 16:37

What do you like about him, Nancy?

KenLeeeeeee · 27/09/2012 16:41

Snivelling little jizzrag.

LineRunner · 27/09/2012 16:59

There is something wrong with his psyche. Like you get with sociopaths. A deeply dangerous person.

The fact that bright people might 'like' him does not detract from this. Actually it adds to it. Scary.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/09/2012 17:02

Vile excrescence and excuse for a human being.

He should have had the sense to double-check the information he was given. If he was too lazy or complacent to do,so, that is hardly anyone else's fault!

Sallyingforth · 27/09/2012 17:26

I don't think he's been sufficiently insulted yet so here's another vote for him being a shitty arse-wiping bastard.
I don't know why the BBC make a habit of inviting him to comment on publishing and broadcasting matters, particularly since he still seems to take every opportunity to boost his (ex-?) employer Murdoch.

Nancy66 · 27/09/2012 19:15

kitty. I worked with him and thought he was a good editor.

He edited the Sun in its glory days - the days of 'Stick it Up Your Punter' and 'Paddy Pantsdown.'

Of course, if you hate The Sun you'll think that's meaniningless.

But in media terms it means a great deal. The Sun was untouchable back then, close to 5 million readers and a national institution.

I suspect that he feels his legacy will be Hillsborough and he feels that's unfair.

But, as I said, it's a poorly judged decision.

kittyandthegoldenfontanelles · 27/09/2012 19:24

Unfair? I think he'd be wise not to get into the territory if fairness.

Thank you for responding to my question, Nancy. However, you are right; I don't think The Sun ever had glory days.

Nancy66 · 27/09/2012 19:27

..much the same as Blair probably feels wronged that he is judged purely on going to war with Iraq

FreudiansGoldSlipper · 27/09/2012 20:59

i was shocked for all of 2 seconds the man is a prized cunt horrible horrible man to me he represents all that was so wrong in the 80's the ultimate thatcherite

LineRunner · 27/09/2012 21:02

Astute point Nancy66 makes, getting into his psyche a bit more, about the legacy thing.

EricNorthmansFangBanger · 27/09/2012 21:10

Cunting twating fuckface of a man Angry

Mymumsdaughter · 27/09/2012 21:19

Maybe they should make him wait 23 years - At best he was lazy journalist who did not check other sources

Lovecat · 27/09/2012 21:19

Not even a good editor - where was his checking of the facts?

Arrogant misbegotten cunt Angry

ashesgirl · 27/09/2012 21:22

Yes but Nancy, he built his own success (and that of the Sun) by vilifying others. So seems incredibly rich of him to complain HE was vilified.

Nancy66 · 27/09/2012 21:34

He was a good editor.

Hillsborough was a catastrophe though.

ashesgirl · 27/09/2012 21:43

Did you read Roy Greenslade's account today of working with him? Interesting stuff. Sounds like he was at peak of his career around Hillsborough.

Nancy66 · 27/09/2012 21:59

Yes, did read that.

Pretty much true, although not accurate to say that celebrities didn't talk to The Sun. They did (prob through gritted teeth) but they had to because of the audience the paper reached

LineRunner · 27/09/2012 21:59

If he was ever a 'good' editor it was because the culture around him allowed him to flourish at what he was best at - not just reporting other people's devastation, but creating it.

And that's why he is obsessed with legacy. Mania.

Fobwatch · 27/09/2012 22:03

Nancy66
You say he was abgood editor but surely an editor's judgement is everything?

He showed such immensely, profoundly, horribly judgement over Hillsborough, I find it hard to think of him as a good editor.

And to refuse to back down for two decades? Again, poor judgement.

Nancy66 · 27/09/2012 22:08

Hillsborough was a disaster for him and, yes, he showed poor judgement.

But he was an editor on The Sun for 10 years and responsible for some great front pages - that just wasn't one of them

Mymumsdaughter · 27/09/2012 23:16

Hillsborough was not a disaster for him - it was a disaster for football and the families and friends of the 96 people who died that day. His personal disaster was poor judgement in allowing lies to be printed about a disaster.

Nancy66 · 28/09/2012 00:30

I was talking about his career - it's pretty obvious what I meant.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 28/09/2012 01:32

I can't see that it was a disaster for his career - but if it
was, he only had himself to blame. It certainly should have been the end of his career. As is clear from the other hillsborough threads, some people still believe those LIES he printed. It caused moment of damage and hurt to those really affected by hillsborough.

The fact that he is now making out that he is somehow a victim in all this, and wants recompense makes me sick.
