Toddler DS decided sleep was for wimps last night and was up and bouncy between 11 and 3 last night. Thank god it's not a day I go to work! However I'm so tired and the best way to make me feel better this morning was to have a big cup of coffee and some Jaffa cakes. IANBU am I?

Its a cake, the clue is in the name.

YABU to just have one.

FutureNannyOgg · 24/09/2012 07:43

Oh I misread, YANBU

DuaneDibbley · 24/09/2012 07:43

I had three. I thought it was an ongoing debate for VAT reasons?

OP posts:
FutureNannyOgg · 24/09/2012 07:45

Pah, VAT my arse [nicecupofteaandasitdown.com] ruled them to be cakes over a decade ago.

CasperGutman · 24/09/2012 07:45

You can't avoid this important question - the answer is vitally important in determining whether you have to pay VAT on your Jaffa Cake habit!

bigsnugglebunny · 24/09/2012 07:46

YANBU - that sounds like delightful breakfast... and oranges are, of course, one of your 5-a-day! Wink

nameuschangeus · 24/09/2012 07:47

In the interests of fairness I would have two. Call one a cake and one a biscuit and that way you have all bases covered.

DuaneDibbley · 24/09/2012 07:53

Oh no namechanges - maybe I should have another one to even it up?

OP posts:
diddl · 24/09/2012 07:53

Have two more so that you´ve had your 5 a dayGrin

And of course when you need energy food it doesn´t matter if it´s cake, biscuit, chocolate or all three!

Aren´t they a cake because of the cakey spongy bit?

Aren´t biscuits crunchy??

DuaneDibbley · 24/09/2012 07:56

And sorry NannyOgg for not keeping abreast of such cakey biscuity matters

I have an Aldi two minutes away so have permanent access to their Jaffa Cakces...which are far superior to the proper ones AND a million times cheaper.

Mmmm Jaffa Cakes...

DuaneDibbley · 24/09/2012 08:03

Really? Superior? I fail to see what could be improved upon...

OP posts:
ScarletLady02 · 24/09/2012 08:06

Less sponge...more orangey bit. Plus you get the equivalent of two packs for 85p Wink

They really are better...trust me...

ScarletLady02 · 24/09/2012 08:07

I am a sucker for the orangey bit though...

Whatdoiknowanyway · 24/09/2012 08:08

I think the cake/biscuit definition is influenced by what happens when they go stale. Cakes go hard and biscuits go soft so Jaffa cakes are cakes.

DuaneDibbley · 24/09/2012 08:11

Oh so am I Scarlet - i'll have to try some then :)

OP posts:
EnglishGirlApproximately · 24/09/2012 08:13

Gah, I'm going to have to go to aldi now for Jaffa Cakes . They really are superior, as are their Ginger Nuts

RubyStolenBootyGates · 24/09/2012 08:15

Cakes go hard when they get stale.
Biscuits go soft when they get stale.
Jaffa cakes go hard ∴ they are a cake.

Gosh, a syllogism before breakfast Grin

But YABVU if the jaffa cakes are ever allowed to be in a state to test this theory.

RubyStolenBootyGates · 24/09/2012 08:15

&#8756 = therefore symbol. obv.
Silly keyboard.

ScarletLady02 · 24/09/2012 08:16

You won't be disappointed DuaneDibbley (Love the username by the way!).

All their biscuits are good. In fact all their everything is pretty bloody good. Gotta love Aldi.

JeezyOrangePips · 24/09/2012 08:22

As far as I'm aware the vat on Jaffa cakes was sorted quite a few years ago. I heard about it when I was training 12 years ago.

They are officially a cake.

DuaneDibbley · 24/09/2012 08:24

Thanks Scarlet!

OP posts:
JeezyOrangePips · 24/09/2012 08:24

And I think YABU to not give a shit.

They'd be 20% more expensive if they were biscuits.

Surely that's worth caring about!

Bilbobagginstummy · 24/09/2012 08:35

I think that was a brilliant way of deciding: no doubt there were lots of long, technical arguments.
Whoever came up with the cake hard/ biscuit soft thing was a genius!

Bilbobagginstummy · 24/09/2012 08:39
