To lobby MN for an entirely separate "Private Education" topic?

That is all, really.

OP posts:
Pagwatch · 23/09/2012 17:15

I don't want a separate topic buti do think that if you post
Private school = or state school = you should be given lines

Write 100 times " i am thick and borderline bigoted" onthe blackboard. During lunch break.

LeeCoakley · 23/09/2012 17:16

So if you had a problem at school with phonics or friends for example you only want to know about it from a private school pov?

DilysPrice · 23/09/2012 17:17

I don't get it. People who start a thread saying "shall I send my DS to Eton or Winchester?" or "what's the entrance process like for Roedean?" or "how can I challenge this iniquitous extras bill?" really do not currently get spammed with "how dare you go private you rich cow?!", they get advice from those in the know. People who post "should I go private?" get advice from parents who've made both choices, which is appropriate.

GnomeDePlume · 23/09/2012 17:17

I'm another to ask why?

So far as I am aware reading threads isnt compulsory.

Softlysoftly · 23/09/2012 17:19

But what issues other than fees would be specific to private Confused

Was privately educated btw coz I'm posh innit

Pagwatch · 23/09/2012 17:24

There should be a section for Inevitable Bunfights.
People who just fancy one can pick
Sahm vs whom
Bfing vs ffing
Private vs state
Disabled parking
PC gorn mad
Benefits

No need to think of a ludicrous opening post, just click on the barney of your choice.
You could maybe even auto select key phrases

Why do people even bother having children
I couldn't stay at home as I have a brain
Sink school
Just because you are disabled doesn't mean you get to go in front of everyone
My best friend is black

It would be fucking brilliant . Just click away....

seeker · 23/09/2012 17:33

Like the Monty Python Pay for an Argument sketch?

I don't think there should be separate private education topic- it wouldn't be sporting to pen them all up like that. Too easy to pick off- where's the skill in that?

bringbacksideburns · 23/09/2012 17:37

Why??

Just buy yourself a Working Class klaxon for any working class peeps who stumble on to it by mistake.

Joking btw. Your child, your choice.

I would like a breastfeeding in the private classroom topic please.

SminkoPinko · 23/09/2012 17:48

I want a breast feeding on a bicycle on the way to a private school paid for by benefits topic, please.

TheGoldenKnid · 23/09/2012 17:49

Only if there is a possibility that the bicycle is parked in a p&t parking space!

Hullygully · 23/09/2012 17:51

I would like a thread for those bicycles that were breastfed and privately educated and ushered into a sinecure and an exclusive golf club membership

VonHerrBurton · 23/09/2012 18:08

OP, why? Are your children in private education? Or don't you want to read about Arabellas and Tristans? Smile

Just wundrin' ...

NimpyWindowMash · 23/09/2012 18:12

Perhaps in the same way, there should be a Private Healthcare topic as well as the General Health topic Wink. And in Recipes, we could have a Posh recipes section for those who buy waitrose ingredients?

IvorHughJanus · 23/09/2012 18:27

Here's my chance to ask something I'd really like to know which has a tenous sort of link to this thread.

What is the difference, if any, between a private, a public, and an independent school?

[thicko emoticon]

motherinferior · 23/09/2012 18:30

Public schools are the poshest, essentially.

IvorHughJanus · 23/09/2012 18:31

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh.

Definitely for me then. I am vair posh.

Does that make the independent ones the least posh?

motherinferior · 23/09/2012 18:33

I think not. But am not sure. I am the sort of posh lefty who is bigottedly pro-state.

SminkoPinko · 23/09/2012 18:56

Independent in the context of schools is short for "independent of the rules governing state maintained schools" so both public and private schools are independent. So, arguably, are academies and free schools but most people would understand independent schools to be fee paying. Interestingly, many proponents of academies and free schools argue that the success of private/public schools is due to their independence of the rules governing state maintained schools, rather than the fact that fees are paid to attend.

Wiki explains public schools here. Fee paying independents that are not public schools are private schools, generally speaking. hth.

Pagwatch · 23/09/2012 19:01

Someone should invent a thread generator like the Daily Mail headline one.

IvorHughJanus · 23/09/2012 19:05

Thanks Sminko. There's an independent school near me which has very very good ofsted reports (in amongst a lot of state schools that largely don't). So was wondering what it being 'independent' actually meant.

BOOGERSnLICEnNOTHINGnice · 23/09/2012 23:10

It is just sad that each time someone wants to make an enquiry about private schools, they more often than not have to sift through and deal with the bandwagon detractors taking the piss each time with nothing helpful to add (as displayed on this thread).

If I decided to go on to numerous threads about educating one's children in state-school making comments about how it is right that working class paupers should rightly be mindful their filth and ashes don't rub off on the elite, I would be deleted each time.

Apparently, it's perfectly acceptable when the shoe is on the other foot ...
