in thinking that theft is theft?

I went to a conference today. Someone who also attended it has commented that she "found" something in her bag from the conference venue. Whether she put it there or someone else did, it is theft, surely?

Well, I went to a conference this week and took both a pen they gave me when I signed in, and then I genuinely thought the pen I'd been writing with at the table was the same pen. Got home, and, lo and behold, I was mistaken, and I've ended up with two pens. Not sure I'd really think of it as theft.
Oh, and I also took one of the little packets of biscuits each time they put out with coffee and tea, even though I couldn't eat 9 biscuits in a day, so I found them in my bag when I got home too. Again, I'd say that was part of what my work had to pay the masshooive conference fee for, and I'd be diddling myself not to have had my fair share of biscuits.

They nicked a half-used bottle of ex public hand soap? Skankarama.

BackforGood · 22/09/2012 22:10

OK, massively slow x-posting with everyone else, before we knew what the theft was.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 22/09/2012 22:10

They sound dreadful. Do they try to softsoap you?

WorraLiberty · 22/09/2012 22:10

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 22/09/2012 22:11

To be fair, MB has rapidly gone downhill of late, so may her hands come out in rashes from the harsh chemicals used in the hand wash.

worra that made me snigger - and I have a terrible hangover headache today, so not much has raised a smile from me.

It is stealing.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 22/09/2012 22:11

Worra, she posted about it on the dreaded facebook (my other addiction).

IvorHughJanus · 22/09/2012 22:18

Yes tis theft.

Technically.

If she doesn't return it.

But it's not really crime of the century. Were you thinking of anonymously dobbing her in via Crimestoppers?

LadyWidmerpool · 22/09/2012 22:19

Sounds like a slippery customer

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 22/09/2012 22:19

Ah, yes, good point. Will do the "friend" review thing and keep my nose out of it.

Bubbly, yes. Personality, probably: but not one that is compatible with mine.

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 22/09/2012 22:20

She can't possibly return it as her fingerprints will be all over it

Oh no wait....

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 22/09/2012 22:22

[sighing in despair emoticon, having realised that this issue is clearly a non issue, but allowing the PPs to reply at will]

DH came home from a residential course yesterday with a hold-all full of 'complimentary' biscuits and fancy fruity tea bags (Blackberry with Elderflower; Chestnut and Horse Droppings; Mouldy Leaf Wart with Welly Boot Pong, etc). He wasn't even sure why he'd done it. He'd had to carry his enormous coat around London for hours because he could no longer fit it in his suitcase. It's a sickness of some kind I'm sure...

WorraLiberty · 22/09/2012 22:23

Sorry OP Blush

Yeah it was a crappy thing to do and she should be embarrassed by it...not broadcasting it on FB.

I'd delete the people you don't like.

WorraLiberty · 22/09/2012 22:25

When you start the 'crime' module of sociology, you fill in a questionaire, which demonstartes that we all break the law.

How 'criminal' or wrong our actions are, is on a sliding scale, that we each decide.

When decided by others, the crime itself is the last part to be judged, so your dislike of her, is forming your opinion.

Be honest to yourself.
