AIBU?

AIBU to think that little girls swim suits and pants shouldn't be high cut

It seems impossible to find a pretty swimsuit that is straight cut on the leg nowadays. AIBU to think a high cut legs for pants (gap) and swimsuits (M&S amonst others) are totally inappropriate and ill fitting for little girls.

Blackberry
I think you're right. I was just surprised that the pretty ones seem so narrow and don't fit my DD's.

Oh I hadn't read the reviews but there is a mention of it being narrow in the crotch. Interesting, it's not just my DD's then Smile

I've never had this problem with swimming costumes for dd but I have with pants from Next - they are stupidly high cut and skimpy on the bottom. The bikini style pants from M&S are the same but the briefs from there are okay. She is a normal sized 5yo.

On the subject of girls clothes - why is it that from 5 onwards all Next seem to sell is Skinny jeans! Gah she is 5 she doesn't want skinny jeans that show off her bum at the back and make it hard to bend down. She wants comfy trousers/jeans she can play in park and ride her bike in not a bloody fashion statement. Harumph.

MY dds dont have high cut swimsuits they were tankinis so it is shorts and vest style I think you need to look around,

That swim suit is shaped, nothing more. Nothing wrong with it.

Must be that my DD's are an odd shape then valium Sad

Buy some cheap leggings and cut them into little shorts. Also there are not many people who enjoy ogling a childs vagina covered up. I think you are OTT. Shorts is the common sense approach if you feel so strongly.

beyond, i would also like to thank you for that link, i've been looking for something like that for water aerobics.

I have found that there are less short type bottoms, for women, this year, in proper cup sizes, without paying a lot.

My DD has that swimsuit. From the front it looks straight across, if you see what I mean. No amount of moving about has ever exposed her bits...

I have never noticed them being high cut. I bought this one for DD1 recently, for swimming lessons:

www.marksandspencer.com/Marks-and-Spencer-Panelled-Swimsuit/dp/B00153BFGE?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_2&nodeId=42966030&sr=1-2&qid=1348322051&pf_rd_r=1E03Z75EN6DNC6B55XDJ&pf_rd_m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&pf_rd_t=301&pf_rd_i=0&pf_rd_p=321381407&pf_rd_s=center-3

Note the sizing coming up small but otherwise brilliant, in no way "high cut". Perhaps you are just buying them a bit small?

I have always had to get a size bigger than clothes size in swim suits as they are not generally generous in body length.

YANBU based on the link to the peppa pig costume, that doesn't look very comfortable and does seem very high cut for a little girl's costume.

This one from mothercare seems to have a bit more material to it.

Absolutely nothing to do with modesty but that costume does look like it risks an uncomfortable front wedgie!

BitchyHen · 22/09/2012 17:26

DD2 always has this problem with pants and swimsuits. She has quite a large bottom compared to her waist so she often has a wedgie. She is 10 now and it's not getting any better. She spent a lot of time at her swimming lesson adjusting her costume instead of swimming.

Swimshop? Is there anything there suitable?

If your DDs dance or do gymnastics high cut pants are great because their leotards are fairly high cut.

DDs gym group are fed up of their knickers showing and now all wear little velour shorts.

Thanks for the sensible and helpful responses. I am wondering whether the swim suits are actually to big because they don't actually sit on the skin but just gape.

lily that swim suit looks much wider. hellhasnofury thanks for the link.

I know the velour shorts you are talking about Smile

Why do they wear knickers under a leotard?

DD does gym. They don't wear knickers. Is it a new thing. Like the weird boy thing of wearing pants under swimming shorts - so the pants show?

BitchyHen. Dd is built the same plus she has a longer torso. Endless wedgies. She wears a bigger size swimsuit/leotard and boy legs. plus the velour shorts sometimes but her gym coach doesn't approve.

DD wears Speedo boy short style for swimming lessons. Only because I have one (saves on waxing) and she wanted to be like me. I have never noticed legs being cut too high though.

Redpanda, please tell me more about the speedo short style no waxing thing! Sounds like a fantastic idea! Do you have a link?

We have had swimming costumes in a sporty style from John Lewis and M&S and the legs have been a good height.

If your DD's are exposing their fanjos, I would sugest the costumes don't fit.

I agree with others here. Either you are buying a size too small, or the shop sizings are wrong, etc. There's nothing wrong with the cut you are describing, but I can imagine how you could think there would be if your DDs aren't in the right size costume.
