To be scared of getting a job in case I'm worse off?

NC and prepared for a flaming.

I've been claiming JSA for over two years now and am on the Work Programme. I have no qualifications and all I could get (I think) is a minimum wage job. I have been lying about my attempts to get work because I think I am better off out of work.

At the moment I get full housing benefit plus council tax, free dental care/prescriptions (if I need them) and £71 a week to live on. My bills aren't covered obviously, but they're not huge, and I have lots of free time to indulge hobbies etc.. I don't feel the need to buy stuff very often as I'm not into fashion/beauty and I eat cheaply. I can afford to eat out once a week with a TasteCard. The only thing I miss is holidays abroad but I'm not sure I would be able to afford them if I got a job anyway.

If I got a full time minimum wage job, would I be worse off? Just thinking of travel expenses, student loan repayment and time lost - not sure if I would still get any council tax benefit?

Has anyone had experience of this? By the way, I'm childless and live alone.

Oh GetOrf, I can't put myself through that footage again: I HOWLED sobbing when I first saw it.

Toombs · 21/09/2012 22:44

Whippets are my weakness, lovely dogs.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 21/09/2012 22:44

I know. I am a hard faced cah but really wept.

SuperB0F · 21/09/2012 22:44

She was a Patterdale, GetOrf, but very Borderish in the face. Cracking little dog.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 21/09/2012 22:45

Whippets and greyhounds are indeed lovely dogs.

I don't like Jack Russels. They are the stella artois drinkers of the small dog world.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 21/09/2012 22:46

Is that a real fag or did you photoshop that in? In any case it is a cracking picture - the expression on her face. Grin She looks really cool, like she should be in a Manchester band of the early 90s.

hzgreen · 21/09/2012 22:46

Ahh my beagle's lovely, they sure are high maintanance though

SuperB0F · 21/09/2012 22:49

I've heard that, hzgreen. But they are gorgeous.

Yes, real fag. I've got a photo of Pickle next to a pretendy matchstick that DP whittled out of a stair spindle; hang on...

BenefitScrounger · 21/09/2012 22:49

Don't get all the dog talk - is it an insult? (Wishing I understood people emoticon.)

God what a weird thread. I liked the part about dogs best.

SirGOLDBoobs · 21/09/2012 22:51

Oi TorCat, I'm 21, thanks! Grin

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 21/09/2012 22:52

From what I remember beagles need a load of attention, eat a lot, rais bins and howl.

SuperB0F · 21/09/2012 22:52

Look- the TINIEST DOG IN THE WORLD!

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 21/09/2012 22:54

lolol that is brilliant, and look at the bemused look on her face. She looks like a Polly Pocket dog. Grin

StuntGirl · 21/09/2012 22:54

My friend posted a picture of her dog in a Christmas jumper today. ADORBZ.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 21/09/2012 22:54

That matchstick is inspired.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 21/09/2012 22:56

D'you know what? With your articulacy, art skills (=> graphic design?) and unusual outlook on life, I'd suggest you look into helping out a local branch of a political party (probably not the Tories though Grin). Have you a preferred flavour?

IME, they are always glad of warm bodies to deliver leaflets, and you can usually find someone to sit around and talk crap with till all hours. You might even get a job out of it one day...!

StuntGirl · 21/09/2012 22:56

Hah, is that what that is? I absolutely could not figure that out. I thought it was some kind of whip/paddle...?

SuperB0F · 21/09/2012 22:58

No, just a pointlessly adapted bit of wood Grin

EasterEggHuntIsOver · 21/09/2012 22:59

To be honest Benefit, you do not come across very well on this thread, particularly in your OP which seems to be written by a lazy entitled teenaged moron someone who is fine with playing the system.

You are lucky to have friends who are helping you out (art materials for presents, holidays by the sea). They would not do that for you if they didn't like you :)
Just try to be motivated enough to start a job, any job, and get yourself in the workforce. You know you can't stay where you are for long.

torcat · 21/09/2012 23:02

Well I can't say what you could specifically achieve, I don't know you, but providing for yourself, not letting others make sacrifices and work their arses off doing jobs they perhaps loathe, just so that you can opt not to work and fiddle about with your hobbies. . . Just that would be an achievement. But you say you feel no sense of responsibility. . . I simply cannot fathom that attitude. What do you think would happen if everyone in society thought and operated like you?

Arghhh, why am I bothering. We're up to over 500 comments on here and still no one has managed to make you see how selfish and delusional you are.

LadyBeagleEyes · 21/09/2012 23:02

God yes, they're nutters.
But he has calmed down a lot,we're lucky to live in the middle of nowhere so he can let his heart run free.

Erm back to the thread....Nah let's talk about dogs again.

StuntGirl · 21/09/2012 23:02

You bastards, you're all making me want a dog :(

SuperB0F · 21/09/2012 23:03

That's the reason for the dogs, I think. Might as well have a Friday night chat instead of farting into the wind.
