To wonder why ppl would bother to hang out washing and then leave it for THREE months???!

is it just me, or am I being unreasonable to wonder why people (more than one person!) would bother to hang out washing on the line, and then leave it there for more than THREE months?! Over the summer, I'm sure it's been totally dry dozens of times - yet never removed. I've seen others leave laundry for a couple of weeks in the past (which I thought was a bit lazy) but a few months?! Crazy, IMO!

YANBU, but I have been guilty of this in the past (long garden, whirly gig round the corner, out of sight out of mind)

Blush

Finally moved it, to where I can see it, freshish forever now.

TeaBrick · 20/09/2012 21:39

Oh shit, are you my neighbour? Is it a white sheet and a pair of grey school trousers? If so, it's because I'm a slattern.

Meglet · 20/09/2012 21:39

I thought my 3/4 nights was bad.

Are you sure they aren't dead?

TeaBrick · 20/09/2012 21:40

I'm definitely still alive by the way Smile

TeaBrick · 20/09/2012 21:41

So you can stop looking in my garden now Grin

Mrsjay · 20/09/2012 21:41

I'm definitely still alive by the way

PeazlyPops · 20/09/2012 21:41

Are you my neighbour?! It's out there to get some sunlight, I'm trying to get rid of stamen stains from lilies!

StellarforStar · 20/09/2012 21:42

Ah, MrsJay lives between me and Teabrick.

TeaBrick · 20/09/2012 21:43

I'm very busy at the moment, as I'm sure you can tell Grin

TeaBrick · 20/09/2012 21:44

Ah Mrsjay is unmasked as...MRjay then!

Mrsjay · 20/09/2012 21:44

yes an i am watching Grin my neighbour upstairs once told the street id left washing out all night like it was the crime of the century i I had old ladies tutting at me for days

JustAnotherOldie · 20/09/2012 21:50

LOL Mrsjay ! I used to live somewhere and the older ladies in our row of houses NEVER left a thing outside overnight - I thought it must have been really bad to leave anything after dark. So was a bit shocked when a couple of younger families moved in the area and left a few towels/sheets on the line for a few weeks. They eventually took them down (or binned them!) but it wasn't more than a few weeks in total.

But what I'm asking about now, I'm talking about fairly full washing lines. And the people are still very much alive! ;)

Are you sure that you are being vigilant enough? I mean, maybe they are a bit OCD and hang their washing out in the same order each time and you just don't notice when its been taken in, worn, washed and re-hung?

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 20/09/2012 22:01

I must bring mine in when darkness falls. It scares me to leave it out!

JustAnotherOldie · 20/09/2012 22:07

TheCalmingManatee: nope, same exact stuff (100% sure) - and the sun is making it fade!

OP posts:
TheCalmingManatee · 20/09/2012 22:09

or is it a lighter colour? maybe they have several sets of clothes, in slightly different tones?

bogeyface · 20/09/2012 22:09

I did a wash at the beginning of the school holidays that was greys whites. I deliberately left them out all over the holidays as I wanted them to be sun bleached. My neighbours probably think the same as you. And your neighbours probably think the same as me, and think you should MYOB!

JustAnotherOldie · 20/09/2012 22:11

nah, same stuff - twisted and wrapped round the lines, few things fallen off & on the ground. So the length of time I'm sure of ... just wondering if anyone else is guilty of this ;) and WHY anyone would do that?! LOL :o

OP posts:
bogeyface · 20/09/2012 22:14

If it was dark stuff then that doesnt make sense as it will have to be binned. Perhaps again, your neighbours are like me. They have good intentions "we will hang out the washing instead of using the dryer", but fall at the first fence :o

Trills · 20/09/2012 22:15

Why would dark stuff have to be binned?

I mean, I imagine nothing would be very nice after 3 months outside, but why dark stuff especially?

bogeyface · 20/09/2012 22:17

Because of the fade lines. H left a T shirt on the line for a few days in the summer and there was a gorgeous white line where it had been on the line (I told him to hang it from the hem Wink ) and the front was 3 shades lighter than the front. Was ruined.

bogeyface · 20/09/2012 22:18

or even the front was three shades lighter than the back!
