To want to give a standing ovation to the lady in Costa who screeched "HOW MUCH'???

When buying three hot drinks this afternoon. She's not wrong. Grin

I went in to be intentionally ripped off as DS1 had had his brace tightened and wanted a passion fruit and mango smoothie, and I am a soft touch. Wink

But there's always a queue so I must be missing something?

I have NEVER tasted a chocolate brownie as good as the ones in Costa. I go in there once every few months for a treat, and I always look forward to it. It's more expensive if you eat in btw. If you take out, they slash the price.

On the contrary- i love it when they ask for my name.

My favourite answer is Regina. Makes them stop and listen!

Cappucino and croissant filed with jam -paid ?2.50 this morning, coffee was yummy as well.... It took under a minute to make 4 cappucinos as well - unheard of in the UK.....

DS1 drank half of his £3.25 mango and passion fruit cooler/smoothie thing in Costa and the rest in the car on the way home. I should have asked for a refund for the half he 'took away'.

They don't ask me my name. I thought that was a (new) Starbucks thing?

Sparklingbrook The full size drinks are massive. I don't let DS have anything but the babycinos for that reason. He usually has a taste of mine (if a fruit one, not the coffee!) but it would pain me to see him drink an inch of a 3.50 drink and then decide he's had enough.

Cafe near my work has an offer on at the moment of a coffee and bacon butty for £2. They're advertising it as follows:
Roses are red
Bacon is too
Poems are hard
BACON!
I might just be convinced by this...

I worked in a chain coffee shop when I was at Uni. I used to love it when customers whined to me about the prices. Hmm

I remember one woman had a shit load of cakes and screamed at me to double check the cost as it couldn't be that much. Greedy fucker.

On my wages in the coffee shop,, I would have had to work for an hour to afford a cappuccino.

This is like people moaning about the price of Odeon cinemas. It's not the same as rising food prices.

Trills · 19/09/2012 11:16

Poems are hard - BACON! :o

In our house Costa is called Cost-a-packet

LRDtheFeministDragon · 19/09/2012 11:53

I love the poem! Grin

I do feel so sorry for people working in Costa or any coffee shop really - the machines are so loud, your head must be absolutely pounding by the end of the day! I do try to smile and be patient because it's such a nasty workplace, but it does annoy me that they are always so slow, and ours seems to have a system where they take your order, go and make the orders of the two people in the queue ahead of you, drop something, wipe something down, go out the back, come back in, call someone over for 'a panini', take another three orders, put a vile syrup latte on the counter, then get back to you with 'sorry, was that a cup of tea?'.

I'm exhausted just waiting for it.

I miss the independent cafe I used to go to back before the smoking ban - they were one of the local pot dealers so always very friendly to students but also gave you this pleasant conspiratorial feel even if you were just sitting minding your own business.

And stilton/mango crispy baguettes to die for.

plutocrap · 19/09/2012 12:52

It was a Costa in which I was asked which I wanted, of two named size options. They're all called different, ridiculous things, so I said the smaller one, and was really taken aback when she asked me for more money than I had got ready (I had read the board and got out exact change for the smallest coffee).

She hadn't offered the smallest one as an option.

How's that for a sales tactic?!

Sparklingbrook · 19/09/2012 12:54

DS1's 'medium' was £3.25 and massive. i don't know how much or how big the large was.
