i am tired and tetchy.

I have worked every day for the last 10 days culminating in an absolute shitter of a night shift last night.

I am knackered.

Bloody child has just announced it is doing a starlight charity walk tonight and will need collctting at about 1am.

I am in serious need of wine.

My options...

A. Give her the car keys and a quick driving lesson.

B. Tell her she will have to walk home.

C. Go and pick her up.

Bollocks.

Hmm ruby. No.

Taxis should go anywhere. If not or too expensive say no, you sound knackered

hugoagogo · 15/09/2012 18:35

*Knock back wine now although I'd go with vodka follow it up with equal water. Crash out within the hour. Set alarm for 12:45.

It's the same as going on a night out, returning at 3 or 4 and then getting up at 7 and going to work.*

Please do not do this ^

Offer favours to dh maybe?

hugoagogo · 15/09/2012 18:36

Blush that did not work did it?

At least you can see it's not a good idea Grin

Sirzy · 15/09/2012 18:37

Ruby, what you mean as it is equally as dangerous and illegal as getting in at 4 am then driving 3 hours later

SheelaNeGoldGig · 15/09/2012 18:38

DH has cleaned the whole house top to bottom, mowed te lawn, sorted a week of washing and done the fortnight shop today. (as he does every weekend).

I'm still grumpy about it though.

Have a bath now, get in bed and set the alarm for half an hour before she needs picking up.

Have large glass of wine or a huuuuge baileys over ice when you get back in.

Does she have a bike with lights on? Could she bike to and from the destination?

flow4 · 15/09/2012 18:41

Rant some more. Now. Like this: Feckinseflishfeckingfeckwitsoddinsodfeckfers...
If you've gotta do it, you've gotta do it. Dambuggerybugfeckfeckfeckit
Lots of ranting and swearing and letting off steam will help and may make DH realise how very many brownie points he could score by offering to collect DD tonight :)
Sleeping now is not a bad idea though hitting the booze is obviously NOT!

Mrscog · 15/09/2012 18:44

Rubys idea isn't that bad if you only have 1 glass of wine and dinner. In fact if you start now you might have time for 2 glasses - 4 units of alcohol will be out your system by midnight.

SuperB0F · 15/09/2012 18:44

You can still say no.

You can still say no...

Things change. People get sick, or need their drink rest.

It's a lesson for dd too- parents are not invincible. Explain that you will make a donation, but on this occasion it will not be possible for her to attend, as it is as dangerous to drive exhausted as it is to drive drunk.

onceortwice · 15/09/2012 18:44

I can't decide whether I am in awe of or a little bit scared of Ruby Grin

CamperFan · 15/09/2012 18:46

Can she stay at a friends' house, someone also doing the walk obviously??

SheelaNeGoldGig · 15/09/2012 18:48

Its not even the cash. I suggested just donating. She earns CAS points for charidee deeds.

I am actually really pissed off.

OP posts:
holyfishnets · 15/09/2012 18:49

Can she have a sleep over at a friends house. One attending the walk?

ToothGah · 15/09/2012 18:49

I'd tell her she needs to sort out staying at her friends or getting a lift, or she can't go. You're knackered.

BTW, do you rent your husband out? Grin

holyfishnets · 15/09/2012 18:50

Ruby very funny joke har har

holyfishnets · 15/09/2012 18:51

Have one glass about 9pm

RubyFakeNails · 15/09/2012 18:52

onceortwice get it right. You are in awe, it's my usual effect on people, we all have crosses to bear etc.

But Fuck me I'm talking about 1 to 2 drinks not the entire bottle. I did say 'remainder'. I'm far from lightweight so maybe it's just me but I do similar to that quite often and no issues yet. Piss off with your Hmm

Was once breathalysered or whatever its called at work as part of some initiative or other and had had a much heavier night and was fine on 4 hours sleeps with water so I don't think what I'm saying is wrong or anything. If you had a glass or two of wine, then had a sleepless-ish night with young dc then drove you probably wouldn't think twice.

SheelaNeGoldGig · 15/09/2012 18:56

He's good at housework but an irritating bastard.

OP posts:
onceortwice · 15/09/2012 18:57

Ruby - it may not be wrong for you, but it may be wrong for someone else. Only reason I would question your advice. For me, I would almost certainly sleep through an alarm at that time of the time night after a couple of drinks (even 1 or 2).

i am in awe though. My DH could do that.

WofflingOn · 15/09/2012 19:03

You have my sympathy OP, my scout often has to be picked up from odd locations at daft times in the night, and is usually covered in grungy bits and carrying a useful stick full of earwigs and woodlice which has to come home to be added to the collection.
I would have a bath, a serious nap and set the alarm. Or get her to stay with a friend.

RedHelenB · 15/09/2012 19:28

It's a no from me. She will have to do another event some other time.

WofflingOn · 15/09/2012 19:31

OP apparently agreed to the DD doing the Starlight charity walk, should she now just cancel it on the day? How is that fair RedHelenB?

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 15/09/2012 19:39

There's only one way to ensure this never happens again. Move. Set search terms to 'city centre only'.

This is why I will never, ever move to the sticks. DS is only 13mo, but I've already decided to stick with city living until he's well and truly flown the nestGrin

SheelaNeGoldGig · 15/09/2012 19:39

DD dropped off. Humph. I think i will eat my (considerable) weight in carbs and cheese.
