Just wondering who cleans up the blind dogs poo

A man has picked up his children with his blind dog in tow and on way back watched the dog squat straight in front of me in the middle of the path. I called after him pointing out that there are many children using the path and does he have a bag for me to pick it up. He said he does not carry one as he does not have to or is able to pick it up.

I was a bit shocked but probably BU.

Oh please, op was clearly being kind and genuinely interested in the hows and whens of pooing guide dogs. Wind it in - find a bun fightwhere there is one.

4boysthatilove · 14/09/2012 16:05

I have a "reject" guide dog, he is trained to wee on command (busy) and poo on command (big busy)!!

JamieandOscarSittinginATree · 14/09/2012 16:06

A quick google suggests two things - many owners can pick up the poo themselves, others have dogs that only poo at certain times, so they can anticipate it. A report from a Leicester newspaper said a man was fined after his guide dog pooed in a Park but Guide Dogs for the Blind intervened and the fine was waived.

I'm surprised he didn't take you up on your offer to pick it up.

I'm surprised you called it a Blind Dog

SchrodingersMew · 14/09/2012 16:08

God, she offered to pick it up! It's not like she was complaining that he didn't.

Just because it's a guide dogs poo doesn't make it any less gross that it done it in the middle of the pavement where children come from school.

2girls2dogs · 14/09/2012 16:08

No, im a total bitch actually. But actually, in all seriousness, i realise the C word comment was a bit strong as it was just a joke in response to the gin thing, so i apologise for that, however i do think you ABU and should have just cleaned up after the guys dog.

How could she clean up after it if she didn't have a bag? That's basically the whole point of this thread, that he didn't carry bags.

I don't think it's actually unreasonable that someone with a guide dog carries bags incase something like this happens.

squoosh · 14/09/2012 16:11

YABU

It's rare that a guide dog shits in public.

Noqontrol · 14/09/2012 16:12

Fortunately my husbands guide dog is not blind, otherwise she would constantly be leading him into lamp posts.

If she does do a poo in the street (it happens occasionally,) he fumbles round with a plastic bag on his hand trying to find it. He's always very grateful if someone kindly offers to pick it up for him, because, you know, they can see where it is and he can't.

Hope this answers your question op.

SchrodingersMew · 14/09/2012 16:12

Rare but obviously does happen so is it really that unreasonable to carry bags incase a kind passer by offers to clean it up just like the OP offered?

Noqontrol · 14/09/2012 16:14

Although just noticed you said you offered to pick it up, so sorry for being sarcastic. Yes he should carry a bag with him. Rude not to.

MySpanielHell · 14/09/2012 16:14

Of course it isn't unreasonable to carry a bag for cleaning up dog poo whether you have a dog or not. It is also isn't unreasonable not to if you are blind.

JamieandOscarSittinginATree · 14/09/2012 16:15

Thanks Noqontrol

ClippedPhoenix · 14/09/2012 16:16

I thought you calling it a blind dog a rather funny big OOPS! and excusable OP. They were called that in my day. I also knew you didn't mean to offend.

SchrodingersMew · 14/09/2012 16:17

I think no matter what, a bag should be carried. Even if only for the intention to use it if someone offers.

Shit in the middle of the pavement is still shit in the middle of the pavement, not cleaning it up because you cannot is fair enough but not having a bag incase someone else is willing to clean it up I think is rather rude.

2girls2dogs · 14/09/2012 16:17

The tone of the OP sounded like she was telling him off though "i called out to him, telling him that many children use this path". He was picking his children up, so i daresay he was aware that children use the path. Had she said "ooopsie, hes just crapped on the floor, if you have a bag i'll pick that up for you" That would have been far more diplomatic a way of offering instead of getting all holier than thou.

JamieandOscarSittinginATree · 14/09/2012 16:18

Clipped - when was your day?

I'm 43 and we collected money in my Primary School for 3 Guide Dogs

Guide Dogs For the Blind is of the most famous charities in the country

SchrodingersMew · 14/09/2012 16:19

Fair enough, I agree with that. She shouldn't have went about it that way.

2girls2dogs · 14/09/2012 16:20

Maybe the guys dog, as he is trained not to shit on the pavement, doesn't usually shit on the pavement. Maybe that is why he didn't have a bag, but because the OP was all "oh you do realise children use this path" indignant, he got defensive instead of saying "oh dear, he doesn't usually do that so i don't usually need a bag"

Its all about the way things are said really isn't it.

MySpanielHell · 14/09/2012 16:20

SchrodingersMew, do you carry dog poo bags around at all times?

SchrodingersMew · 14/09/2012 16:25

No but I don't have a dog. I have nappy bags though.

2Girls Yes, it is about the way things are said, had that been the situation if he had said "he doesn't normally do that so I don't have one, sorry" it would be entirely different I guess. It's the way he said it.

Mind, his back might have been up from the way OP approached him.

MySpanielHell · 14/09/2012 16:26

So do you use nappy bags to pick up dog poo from the street quite regularly?

SchrodingersMew · 14/09/2012 16:29

No I don't as most of the shit is from arses who can't be bothered to clean up after their dog. However if I seen a person with a guide dog in this situation I would offer.

I think you are missing the point.
