I live in flats on a estate in the next block there is a staff. if this dog is out with its owner and you go near it by near it i mean across the road. it goes mental barking and trying to get away from its owner. I dont think this is far for people who live here. and im sure staffs should not be so full of anger.

Did you park in a Parent and Child space whilst you were at the market?

Chazs - of course AND had an argument with a pregnant woman who thought she had the right to park there

Have i missed something?

Would people still be taking the piss out of the OP if there wasn't a spelling mistake?

FWIW - if the dog is genuinely aggresive then report it to the council/police.

He is picking up the poo and keeping the dog on the lead so suck that up!

I hope i haven't missed anything though, im bored

ChazsGoldAttitude · 14/09/2012 16:34

2girls
Its a reaction to the its a Staff that barks so it must be a homicidal maniac of a dog undertone.

The dog is on a lead, the owner clears up after it as far as we are aware it hasn't attacked anyone.

I once kept a Dobermann in a house that was WITHIN THROWING DISTANCE of other houses. Sometimes people would walk by my driveway. Really, that close to a Dobermann. Really, I should have been shot, but I only walked her under cover of darkness, under armed guard, in a rolling cage. So it was ok.

PunkInDublic · 14/09/2012 16:37

2Girls I hadn't noticed a spelling mistake and given my spelling is awful I'd be the last person to call someone out on it.

I can only speak for myself but my issue with OP is due to the reasons you gave i.e. what sounds like a responsible dog owner with no genuine aggression other than some barking.

2girls2dogs · 14/09/2012 16:41

ah fair enough then - i'll add my two penneth then

The dog is probably hyped up on bakers complete and the owner high on lucozade

jill666 · 14/09/2012 16:47

lol god forbid i hav a staffy with a 2yr old also hav 2 other dogs a newfy and a bichon an the staffy ds3 r best of friends now the bichon is grumpy old mare and im more worried bout her with ds3 lol staffys r known as nanny dogs coz they were left to look after kids in fields while the parents worked :)

ClaimedByMe · 14/09/2012 17:03

My Staffy is a going to gain herself an ASBO for her snoring the whole street can hear it!!

deakymom · 14/09/2012 17:04

some dogs can act aggressive and it does worry people if it was my dog i would get a spray collar for use in public dog barks dog gets sprayed with water dog stops barking
i personally hate dogs barking at me it just makes me want to growl my furry butt off (and now im pregnant with my third im really not kidding about the furry butt)

if the owner is approachable make the suggestion you can hire them out and it only takes a few weeks training to break the barking habit if they are not approachable your out of luck unless you want to go to the trouble of reporting them to the RSPCA

D0oinMeCleanin · 15/09/2012 09:24

Hmm, so every time the dog barked at a scary person, because fear is the main cause of aggression, it would get squirted in the face.

Yup, that'll help show him strangers are not scary Hmm

Alternatively the owner could try BAT which would increase the dog's confidence and show him people are actually not that scary at all. Sometimes nice things happen when he sees people.

I know this thread is pretty much a pisstake, but advice like that is dangerous. If someone else who is having a problem like this happened upon it and decided to listen to deakymom they could be in for some massive behavioral problems.

Adversive techniques do not solve the under lying issue. It might stop the barking, but the fear and possibility that the dog might escalate this behaviour will still be there.

Empusa · 15/09/2012 11:41

"unless you want to go to the trouble of reporting them to the RSPCA"

For what?

Owning a dog that barks? Taking it for walks? Picking up after it? I'm sure that's exactly the kind of situation in which the RSPCA would rush to help. Hmm

"How's he supposed to walk the dog if he can't take it through the garden to get out?"

Maybe the OP thinks the owner should buy a treadmill for the dog?
